Seth never figured he’d be the one who’d have to be giving pep talks to newbies, really ,he was the last person on earth who should be doing it considering his experiences with the game and some of its players. It defiantly wasn’t going to be easy for newbies, not here.
“Hmph, if you like fighting you’ve picked the right kind of game, but...” He paused for emphasis. “Fighting could get you a lot of enemies you don’t want to have” His mind cast back to his multiple encounters with Quinn and a frown emerged.
“Nope, sorry, Garudas right, fighting fair isn’t exactly in the games rules, not that there are any.” Seth rocked back on forth in his couches stance, it was really starting to ache on his knees being like this.
“Newbies like you should go round trying to beat people up, there’s plenty of other players much stronger than you, best to get you bearings first.” The statement was accompanied by another not particularly comforting forced smile.
Another exchange that Seth wasn’t privy to. “Regardless of what he’s saying you should probably listen...unless you think you know better.” Seth honestly didn’t trust a lot of gods as it was, but new players would probably do a great deal better listening to wisdom of thousands of years than their own childish whims.
“Hmm” Seth mused for a moment, she was right, it was easier to get around in Southern. There was one thing he could offer her, but it was extreme.
“If you want....” Seth spoke slowly, not really sure if he should be suggesting this. “You can find somewhere new to stay, and I can make your parents forget about you, vice versa...or both”

That got her indignant again - which, Ava supposed, was better than being morose. "S'not like I'd be pickin' on folks. There are rules of en-gage-ment." She learned that term from Mr. Vainateya, and liked to whip it out whenever possible. Gave more meaning to the fighting, more finesse.
Ava watched Seth sway. "So it's not like I'm gonna 'beat up' anybody. They have to be okay with it!" She paused. "Or, if they start something, it's okay for me to finish it."
Yeah.
That was pretty much the extend of her rules of engagement.
But it was a pretty good code to live by, dang it! And she could never understand why other people couldn't live up to it.
"So if other people don't wanna fight, s'okay," she conceded, a bit sadly. "I was just lookin' forward to it, is all. Most... most kids don't wanna fight me anymore."
I thought you were refusing to fight them.
Well, yeah! S'not fun if I'm better than EVERYbody else.
She perked up a bit. "But! If they're stronger than me, then I got something to look forward to! Most kids don't wanna fight 'cause I'm stronger than them. So I just gotta train."
Strength is something we can work on. I was not lying when I said I would teach you what I know.
Oooh, now she was starting to get giddy again. Even Seth was smiling at her! Though, it looked kinda strained.
And then Ava realized she completely missed the point. There were no rules. "...How can you keep score if there's no rules?" That... was a bit disconcerting. Not enough to take the wind out of her sails.
"No... no, I trust Mr. Vainateya. He's never done any wrong by me!" Led astray, yes, but today hardly counted. And it wasn't even intentional! She could tell that much. He was just... frustrating, at times.
And then talk of home took out what little wind was left in those sails. "...what? No! No, I like my parents and they like me, but, it's just... hnk." She blinked. Okay, exasperated sighs coming out like honks? Not helping any. "How could you even do that, anyway?"

Seth sighed, enthusiasm could be extremely misplaced sometimes. Well, she’d learned eventually he supposed.
“Look just...just try to stay out of trouble until you get your bearings?” A hopeful little smile on his face that just looked more like it read in a desperate way ‘Please just do what I tell you to’.
“I’d make my job easier at any rate” Seth rolled his eyes to the side. That comment wasn’t really aimed at Ava, more a thought spoken aloud.
“Err...it’s complicated” Best leave it at that, newbies had to find out for themselves, not just have it info dumped on to them
“All right, if you trust him then I suppose that’s my job done around here” Seth stood up from his crouch, his knees aching something fierce at this point.
There was an awkward moment where Seth stared, not really sure what to make of Avas honking noises. He blinked a few times before he spoke. Apparently he got of lucky when it came unexpected bird features.
“...that’s also quite complicated. If you don’t want I’ll leave it at that”

Ava blinked. "Yeah, okay. I'll stay out of trouble." It was kinda weird that he'd even ask that? Of course she'd stay out of trouble! But, she didn't want to say anything about that - he had that tiny smile that her dad had after work, like it was saying not now kiddo.
She had the feeling she'd be seeing more of that from her dad real soon.
If she saw her dad again.
It was hard to get depressed on the matter again. The mood whiplash of the day was making her feel just too tired to get worked up about it yet again. She... well, she would cross that bridge when she came to it, but she didn't want to think about it right now. She adjusted her makeshift scarf self-consciously, as well as in an attempt to stifle yet another yawn.
"That's fine," she inclined, a bit surprised to hear herself say it. Normally she'd get worked up when someone thought something was too complicated for her (she was not a child, damn it!) but with all the other information she had to process today, it was probably for the best. "As long as I don't get in trouble, right?" she joked half-heartedly.
Seth had been kneeling so long that she had forgotten just how tall he was! It was a bit disconcerting to be looking back up at him. And the honking probably added to her feeling looked down upon. She blushed a little in embarrassment.
"No... no, I don't want that. It's just...." She pinched the bridge of her nose (or beak, rather) in mild frustration.
Garuda broke his extended silence. It will be your first test.
"Yeah, okay, that's a good way to put it. It'll be my first test," she repeated for Seth. "Seems like a pretty crummy test t'me, but if it means being in the Game, I guess I gotta do it some time."
"Thanks for talking with me, Mr. Seth," she added. And she meant it, too - getting some explanation as to what the hell was going on was pretty nice, and it's not like she was gonna get answers from her folks. Hell, she was going to have to be the one explaining it to them! Totally not something she was looking forward to, but anything to be in the Game.
She had come this far; there was no sense in letting Mr. Vainateya (or even just Seth) down now.

“Yeah, nothing stupid” He glanced to the side for a moment, mentally adding ‘Unlike what I did’ to what he’d said. Really, getting into a fight on the walk home from seasons must have been a record or something.
“Hmph, okay” Looking at the way things worked in central it was the kinder thing to do from one perspective. “The offer still stands though” He expected more than one godling to take him up on it eventually.
“Test?” He thought for a bit, Ava kind of had the right idea. “I’ll see how you do sometime” Another weak sort of smile.
“All right, don’t worry I’ll defiantly see you around” he stretched on the spot again, it was a long walk home, and he was still learning his way round.
Seth figured he was going to have to get used to this. Maybe he’d get lucky and there’d be less gods showing up at his apartment in the future.
