Name :: Kanesakht
Specialties :: Ritual Combat, Illusions
Personality :: Kanesakht is bitter, mistrusting, irritable, and very vocal about it. If you do something he doesn't like, he will let you know about it. It isn't unknown for him to inflict corporal punishment on his students when they make mistakes.
With all this, though, and his pessimistic outlook on life, he is still loyal to his city. He spends hours and hours each day trying to improve the standards of living in the city, trying to find new and better ways of farming and raising livestock. It's hard, though, and usually leaves him feeling stressed and defeated.
History :: Kanesakht was, for a very long time, one of the "Forgotten Children." Nobody seemed to want to take him on as an apprentice. He went through stints of working in the fields, clearing out tunnels, and wandering the streets, hungry. He has seen what it's like to live in the darker parts of the city first hand.
One day, he happened to run into one of the council members. It was a lucky day for him - the man was a firm believer in prophecies and fortunes, and had been advised to take on a male apprentice.
Kansakht married a young bottle-maker that he'd met during his impoverished wanderings. Their marriage was happy and envied by many for its equality and apparent staying-power.
Then there was the tunnel collapse.
Kanesakht's wife, Immerset, had been going down through the cave systems to find a tiny spring by which grew a flower whose pigments she used in her art. On her way back from that cave, the floor buckled beneath her where construction crews were busy trying to make a new cavern for farming. She was killed instantly.
Since then, Kanesakht has never been the same. He refuses to open up at all and lashes out at everybody. His temper runs hotter than ever.
Other :: Kanesakht is very quiet on the subject, but he is, in reality, one of the best fighters in the city. He doesn't feel that people need to know.
Current Apprentice :: Sekhmet

Name :: Enherumh
Specialties :: Auditory Illusions, Paperwork
Personality :: Enherumh isn't always considered to be the wisest woman around - but the intelligence is simply difficult to see. On first glance, she's flashy, loud, and perhaps a bit crazy. But in truth, she simply makes an effort to enjoy her life to the fullest... to the chagrin of others around her.
She can be tricky and hard to deal with when she wants something, but if she likes you, you may actually be worse off. She enjoys toying with "the little ones" - especially those under her watchful eye.
History :: Born as an illegitimate child, Enherumh never knew her true parents. Her adoptive father was a well-to-do man - an art collector - but he was a bit lost when it came to caring for a daughter. Due to the lack of feminine influence, he overcompensated with gifts - and she wound up with a taste for flashy, tacky jewelry.
Despite all this, Enherumh was a bright girl. It took some time for her to find a mentor who would see past her gaudy exterior - but when she did, she was a fast learner.
She grew up and ended up doing paperwork for a doctors' office, though she dabbled in other things. Her office is known for some odd occurances that don't seem to make any sense...
Other :: For a hobby, she enjoys collecting jewelry and art, just like her father.
She tends to rub people the wrong way on first impression - knowing her well is for the patient.
Current Apprentice :: None

Name :: Marseth
Specialties :: Book Binding, Haggling Prices, and a bit of Fire Magic
Personality :: Generally speaking, Marseth is rude. She laughs in peoples' faces, insults others, and is generally a very brash, very loud person. However, deep down, all she really wants to do is enjoy a good book. Customers interrupting bothers her. And if she doesn't like the person, she lets go with her brash side.
However, if she likes the person, like, say, Akhetnnami (that woman appreciates keeping things brief), she is more than courteous.
History :: Marseth obtained her job through the traditional family inheritance route. That didn't mean it was easy, however. Her father almost kicked her out - twice - due to her abrasive attitude with potential customers. He also threatened to rewrite his will and leave the shop in the hands of another one of his apprentices - trained in book-binding, being sent to the library - when he heard that she and Kanesakht were nearly at each others' throats.
However, her shrewd ability to keep haggling at high prices did please some part of her father. Though he didn't approve of overcharging, he didn't want to let his treasures get away for less than was proper.
Marseth was raised in a semi-traditional household. Respect was a big thing... not that she learned any of it. She has no brothers or sisters, and her mother is old, quiet, and lives in the hospital due to increasing blindness and dementia.
She lives in a small nook of a room off the third floor of the book shop, and eats out for most of her meals. Because of her business, she's obscenely rich and technically could be considered one of the wealthy "nobility," but she just uses the money to obtain new books as they are unearthed from fallen-in temples or produced by the few writers.
Other :: Marseth and Kanesakht don't really get along - they're almost too similar.
Marseth is very touchy on the subject of her mother, who she cares for deeply but is scared to admit about.
Current Apprentice :: Jahi
