I've heard that being an Economist was bad. And that if you buy stuff and sell it on the Marketplace for a profit or if you sell your fish there instead of to Logan that you were an Economist. So I put it to those of you more educated in this subject than I:
What is an Economist? And why is being one bad?

The first thing you must realize is that gold isn't bad. The Admin gave us gold and The Admin gave us the exchange and the stores and the bank to use it with, and The Admin saw that it was good. The Admin, in his infinite grace, saw fit to reward his children. But as always, there will be those that seek to use what is good for bad things and try to corrupt The Admin's vision of Gaia. These are the people filled with Greed. Those who double the price of a devil's tail. Those who scam. Those who sold the 50-gold secret vials for 20,000 gold, when those buying didn't know what it was. Those that take advantage of other users for their own profit. Those who download "gold generators" or try to cheat the system. These are the Economists.
They say "everything in moderation", and nowhere is it more true than when it comes to gold.

So basically an economist is some one who takes the gift that the holly admin gave us (gold and items) and uses them to scame and take advantage of others?

I've got to disagree with you guys on this one. As a one time Economist, I feel entitled smile heart smile
Economists are not NECESSARILY scam artists, though the followers are prone to it. True followers of the Economist way merely recognize that there is greed in the world. Whether it be greed for fake pixels or greed for fake gold, or anything else. True Economists are item whores, art whores, and every thing else. They have the best of all worlds. They don't give to charities. Why give when you can sell? The True Motto he he with the most toys wins, and Economists are determined to have the most toys.

Is that all an Economist is? That's not so bad! Why, I'm one of the biggest item whores you'll see. My inventory is nearly a page long! I'm branching out into art whoredom recently, too. I like having toys. That's not a sin. Hurrah for the Economy, then, I say---

I do not see those who hoarde items as sinful, nor those who have six figure gold accounts.
The ones I see as sinful are those who lie and cheat to earn gold. Those who sell Vials for several thousand to n00bs. Those who triple item costs overnight.

Is Styskel - The Economy Devil himself sinful? Does he blatently disregard the TOS? Has he been warned or banned? No. I'm not saying Economist are great people, and that there aren't any within their ranks who do such things. I'm saying that true Economists don't need to. They can exploit people without the need to break the TOS. Its your perogative to buy a vial of unknown liquid for 10k. It may not be smart, but you're more than welcome to do it, via the TOS. Cheating and lying - yes those are sinful, and those who do so may be considered economists, but you don't HAVE to lie to do so....people's ignorance is all the room you need to manuver safely within the TOS and still turn a pretty penny.

I don't see anything wrong with collecting items and gold. Those are the rewards of being Gaian. You get gold for lurking (well, for clicking around, at least), so you know that in itself gold isn't bad. heart
I have a modest inventory because I've found that I appreciate what I like more if it's all I have. (I guess I'm picky; I'm not a fan of too much of the pixellated stuff sweatdrop )
Quite luckily, I've never felt the need to quest for something outrageously expensive, and I've found that giving away expensive stuff is more fun than keeping it... opening boxes to recieve cheap stuff is more fun than selling the box for more.
I don't know why.

Grayed Quite luckily, I've never felt the need to quest for something outrageously expensive, and I've found that giving away expensive stuff is more fun than keeping it... opening boxes to recieve cheap stuff is more fun than selling the box for more. I don't know why. Thats what seperates a Modist from an Economist..... heart
