I feel comfortable actually rp'ing, and I consider myself decently good at it, but I really can't find that one perfect rp that I really love and I have come to the realization that I want to create my own. Now I have tried to make one and it was really original (post-apocalyptic sci-fi with high fantasy elements, such as magic and stuff) but it didn't ever get off the ground and no one really ever joined. Now, I know I'm doing something wrong, and I know I shouldn't have been so sure of myself to just jump in and make an rp without knowing how, so now I am seeking some one to teach just exactly how I should go about creating an rp.

I'd be willing to help you with what I can. What really are you looking to learn? I mean, are you looking for story tips, or layout......?

Well let's start with the basics. Roleplaying is in the category of creative arts, so it's really hard to give rules or guidelines, but there are a number of things you should be mindful when starting a roleplay. Keep in mind you don't always need to follow all of them. It all depends on the... tone of your roleplay- what you want the experience to be like.

I'll stop there, or I'll begin rambling. Here's a list of things of which you should be mindful while constructing a roleplay.
1) You are creating a WORLD. That means you have to give enough information that your players understand like someone living in this world would, but not so much that they're overwhelmed. It can be tricky with some, especially those involving magic, but finding that perfect amount of detail and description really helps sell your roleplay.
2) This is a group effort. You may be running the show (and you may not, depending on your style) but there are people that will be playing through the story with you. This means your plot must make room for a group of individuals rather than focusing on one or two. Making a "main" protagonist is a quick way to alienate others and kill your roleplay.
3) Be Organized. It tells others that you've put time and thought into this world that you've decided to share. Look at the Level 3 RPs: they typically have an opening post to hook your interest, and then get into more detail on what they'll expect from players and what players can expect to find in the given roleplay. If they're still interested, they'll come to the character skeleton and the list of active players, followed by any information that may be helpful throughout. Also note that you might not need that many posts to fully inform potential players, and that's fine. Length of introduction is not the determining factor of a strong roleplay.
4) Understand your world. Remember when I said you were creating a world? Good, because if you've forgotten, then your players will be just as quick to forget about it too. You need to be able to explain to some length what your world is like: geography, culture(s), magic(if applicable), tech, and so forth. It doesn't have to be a friggin' encyclopedia entry, but as stated before it should cover the information a native would be able to recall instinctively.

Mr. Blackbird Lore
Sorry you had to write all that, bro. But after running a few games of Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder, I'm REALLY confident with my GMing skills. If you want to maybe get some people together for a freeform rpg with me, I'm sure it'd be a hell of a lot of fun.

If you make a roleplay in the Guild, I'll certainly give it a look.

The plot won't be too in depth, but it'll be fun.
