It'll be my first herb garden, I hope I can use these in the future. : D I know I'll probably hang some herbs/flowers with protection qualities above my door...I have an idea of the few I'll start with soon, I want to know if anyone else has an herb garden as well and if so what do you recommend me plant, what has been useful to you? ^^
I have Scott Cunningham's (I love his books, super helpful, rip Scott) Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs on hand so I'm definitely using that to help narrow down the possibilities. XD

I've found that Deer and rabbits don't like the taste or smell of rosemary, so if you have a large enough plot of land, I would recommend planting Rosemary all along the outer edge. Just be careful because that stuff and grow out of control.
Cinnamon well keep ants out of a garden, and hair from a hair brush will generally keep some plant eating mammals out of the garden.

I have to say that I know from personal experience that hair clippings keeps away rabbits. a fence help a bit as well. As for herbs you might want to grow, my basil this year went crazy, so I promote that. I like mint, it will roam freely, and double in size every year. A few herbs I have, but do not seem to like my area is sage and rosemary. Both had little to no growth this year, but they never died. I like in a swamp though, so my water table is just bellow the surface. That might be the problem. Try and do some research in your area about the water table, and the PH of your soil. those, as well as sun, are huge factors on a specific plants ability to survive. Good luck to you, I know I loved having a garden this year.

Lavender (if you're not allergic to it) would be a good one. It is good to use in certain blends of herbs (especially ones that have calming properties). Plus, it looks pretty as well. =D Another might be chamomile. It also has calming properties but it also works well when you have an upset stomach. Make it into a tea and it'll perfect. This one also looks very nice in a garden. I think sage and rosemary were already said. A word of caution on the sage though. There are a few different kinds of sage. One I know is generally used for ritual work like smudging. The others have more of a cooking purpose to them. Let's see.... The mints would be good too like peppermint, spearmint, etc. Those go well in teas especially the ones that do not taste so great at first. It covers up the bad taste with the mint and makes it easier to drink. Also, it, like with chamomile, is good for an upset stomach. Another property is that it helps to heal/sooth a sore throat.
I can't really think of anymore right now but if I remember anything, I'll be sure to post it! Good luck with your garden!

XDDD;; You're supposed to get someone else, it says in my book 'a stranger' to plant it for ya. You could always ask some kid to plant it for 5 bucks. :B Thanks for the info though. ^^ @Lily of the Sword; Thanks very much for the info! <33
