Hey, me and my friend are looking at starting a team when I get back to the states in a few years. We have the name picked, I know that it is copyrighted as soon as you think of it, but should we still get the documentation as proof, just in case? and what are some good begining things equipment wise? we were just going to use some handheld camcorders and digital voice recorders to start, and if the team doesn't fall through possibly in the future upgrade. We're both fresh out of high school, so I don't expect to be working with Thermal imaging and all that expensive stuff for a very long time, due to the cost. But like I said, besides handheld camcorders and digital voice recorders, what else to you suggest for a team just starting out? (I'd put the team name here, but, like I said, the whole possibility of someone stealing it until I get documentation on copyright)

I would get it copyrighted just because you never know what could happen. It is very hard to find a decent and suitable name because mostly everything is taken at this point. Besides the camcorders and digital recorders (which is my favorite tool of all), I would also suggest a regular camera. You would be amazed at what can show up when you just do still shots of things. Plus, that way you can have pictures of the places that you have investigated. I put all of mine into albums and such to show people. I would also highly recommend an EMF detector. Thermometers are also a cheap tool to have around if you do want something extra for gathering evidence, although I have found that they are not necessary. Thermal and ultraviolet cameras are sadly super expensive. I would love to get at least one for my group but I don't see that as a possibility in the near future. Good luck with members though, I think that finding reliable members has been the hardest part of all for me.

How would I go about doing the copyrighting? I am familiar with teh rules and eerything on copyright, but not on how to copyright something officially with documentation, although i know it's copywritten as soon as you create it, official documentation or not, but documentation doesnt hurt, only helps. But if anyone knows off the top of their head how to copyright it, I would appreciate the info. thank you biggrin

My group created a website and copyrighted the website, which includes the name. We also looked into documentation to become a non-profit organization but since we haven't been doing much that would bring in donations we have completed that step yet. If you want more info here is a website for you:
