Part Three; Dead Land

Iban seems to be pleased with you (or as pleased as the cranky elder can get) for retrieving the herb that he asked. While his anger has calmed for the moment, he insists that you follow him out for a little while longer. You can't exactly say no, anyway...

Are you nervous, young one? You should be. This place is sacred to all adahy, but holds less meaning to a di'taki like myself. What's that look for? You're almost free to go, I'm not going to eat you for dinner unless you start acting like a knowitall, you know.

I want something... nice to bring back to my mate. I'm sure by now she's worrying about me, you know. Go find me something out there suitable for her. I don't care what you find, but it better be good.

Well, at least you're almost out of the cranky old man's territory. Iban wants you to find a gift for his Menetae in the Dead Land. If you don't want to venture further into the sacred ground you'd be best to stand up for yourself or find something outside...

Rules!
*- One response per person.
*- No, you cannot kill Iban or his mate, sorry.
*- This is an ongoing game! (Though if you miss one, you can still play in the next!) Each round lasts for a week to give everyone enough time to respond. Your reply can be a couple sentences, or it could be two pages! There is a prize to be won at the end of each round, and one big prize at the last round!
*- Iban responds to everyone. Whatever you say, you'll know if you made it or not. :D No, he's not going to kill off your pet, don't worry. Whatever happens here may influence your next round, or maybe not!
*- This is not a CYOA. You can't be "eliminated". The response that Iban feels is the most adequate will be the one that takes the prize that round.

If you don't own an adahy or di'taki of your own, feel free to respond using a made up one! This event is open to owners and non-owners alike. When responding, try not to use Iban or Menetae, though a small action thrown in is okay. Results will be announced Monday, August 23rd.

That voice, it seemed to ring in Empresario's ears. The small framed Di'taki quivered, he had never known what love had meant, scavaging to get by. He would find something he would only give to the most beautiful female, that would certainly impress Iban....it had to. Empresario crept from Iban's presence, of course he could find something in the deadlands, plenty of Adahy had come here to die, plenty of them must have come with valuables, right?
Oh my...what have I gotten myself into now..? He quivered again and pressed forward, his dark pelt blending into the darkness of the night, the browns swirlling into the color of the ground. No Adahy would be able to see him. or so he hoped. The carcasses and remains of the Adahy had not been something he had wished to see, but this was not his choice at the moment. Empresario sighed and glared into the night, would he find something suitable for Iban, no for Menetae? He frowned and pressed on deeper into the deadlands. And there it was, a single blue stone dangling from a soft white leather, around the neck of what seemed to be a Adahy elder. He frowned and looked down, scratching at the ground beneath his feet... An elder? Would he really do it? What had the Adahy meant to him anyway. He chuckled a little to himself before quickly running over and trying to take the stone from the elder's neck.
THUNK!
The elder's head fell right ontop of Empresario's maw. He whimpered and quickly tried to pull the stone from the rotting carcass and the rotting carcass from his body. The stench was foul...The foulest thing he had ever smelt... That was it.. He had the stone..
Now to return to Iban.

Empresario laid the stone at Iban's forepaws and slowly crept back.
"I hope this is sufficient for your mate, Iban." Empresario reaked of death, but he hoped his gift would mask that.

(Empresario is made up. Not exsistant..yet?)

Usul visibly relaxed as Iban accepted the herb and began to pace after him, but a rustling from the bush caught his attention. Shiny?

An Adahy peeked out, timidly, looking very lost in these lands. He'd obviously never been here before, and had scrapes to prove it. He was... sadly pathetic. Usul sort of pitied him.

With an unhappy growl his jerked his head and invited the Adahy to follow and turned away. He didn't care if the male actually did follow. If he didn't it would be his funeral, no Usul's. Besides, he didn't have time to wait around. Iban didn't seem the patient type. Dying at the claws of a male he'd just handed over a pretty to was not on his list of things to do.

When they stopped in the dead lands and the Adahy settled down next to him with a look of confusion, Usul was indifferent. He didn't look at him, or start up a conversation. The other male didn't try. It was a think, uncomfortable atmosphere until Iban spoke.

Well, the task seemed easy enough. He'd be able to get in, get a pretty, and get out before anyone really noticed. He was good at finding pretties, so he was sure this mate of Iban's would love whatever he found. The biggest problem would be letting it go. He nodded. "Okay. I'll find something."

But, when he went to sprint down into the Dead Land, the Adahy stopped him.

"What are you thinking?" The crimson male hissed. His voice was high and scared, like he was uncomfortable even being close to the sacred grounds. Pity. He'd lose the chance to explore and find things to take home. Not Usul's concern.

"What I was asked to do, so that hopefully I can get home and have my findings to myself again." He moved around the male and trudged into the misty lands. It was only a few minute before he could feel the other's presence behind him again, however, and he smirked silently to himself. Pathetic.

Nothing seemed suitable for a lady. He picked up marbled rocks from near carcasses, examined rotting corpses with his breath held, and poked around yellowed bones with a gentle claw. But, nothing. You'd think the Adahy, with their superior attitudes and all, would have a better assortment of gorgeous, useful things for him to collect! The crimson male just looked away with disgust.

But, when hope had nearly been lost, a glint caught Usul's eye. caught on the spinal disks of an old, yellowed female skeleton, were clear stones. You could see straight through them when in the shade. But when light hit them they glittered and glowed like diamonds.

"Forever stones."

Usul barely heard his unwanted companion, he was so fixated. With a blink of his ten eyes and a flick of two ears, he turned his head. "What?"

"Forever stones. They're precious to my clan. When you find your life mate you spend months searching for these stones. The more you find, the stronger your relationship will be. You string them into a bracelet, or a necklace, if you're lucky like this female, and give them to your beloved to wear forever." It was a lengthy speech, spoken in astounded tones. Obviously this male had never seen so many stones, nor had he ever been life mated.

Usul was interested for a minuscule moment, and then turned away without a word. If he didn't hand these over fast he'd be too attached. He couldn't risk that. He darted back toward Iban, the stones swinging from his horn, and presented them, twitching from the addictive urge to snatch them away and stuff them in his human pack.

Iban's tail swats back and forth, his eyes burning into you. It is clear he has finished waiting.

(BlackFeatherAngel)

Iban grins at your audacity. “Right from the body of an elder,” he chuckles, tucking the gift into the sash at his shoulder, “It is a wonderful gift for her, I thank you deeply.” His eyes rove over the stone, pleased at the deep shade of blue. “You, however, may want to wash yourself in the next river we find.” His nose wrinkles. “Whatever you got yourself into, young one, it smells horrendous.”

As Iban sauntered off, assuming the smaller di'taki would follow him, a tiny glowbug fluttered from behind him and perched on Empresario's nose, seemingly wrinkling its nose at the smell as well.

(DarkHeartedSorrows)

Iban had not questioned the arrival of the adahy, nor had he even really acknowleged his presence. He grinned broadly as he watched them bicker and travel deeper into the graveyard. Highly pleased upon their return, his eyes widened with delight as he eyed the treasure that had been returned to him. “Stunning,” he commented, eyes fixated on them, “I have heard only rumors of such stones, it amazes me that you found a stand so long and intact.” Someone must have loved their mate very much. How perfect he bring them back to Menetae. “I thank you.”

Grats to Angel!
