Summer was almost over and Espen had realized only too recently that he hadn't gone swimming at all! True, he'd never actually swam that much before, but everyone knew that during the summer, swimming was just something you did, regardless of how good you were at it. Besides, it had never been that hard when he was little, how much harder could it be now?
Despite protests to stop, Espen pestered Shane for a week until he finally gave in and brought him to the community outdoor pool in the area. Being the summer, it was moderately crowded for being late in the afternoon, and smelled like chlorine, oak trees and people. Sporting his orange swim trunks, Espen took small leap into the shallow end and stood on the bottom with the water coming up to his chest.
The water was cool, but it was a little hard to navigate the shallow end with the number of other kids in that section. Espen instead set his sights on the deeper end of the pool. He hopped along the bottom until he was at a part where he could flail a little bit to keep himself afloat, but continue to keep a bit of one foot on the bottom of the pool. Still, he wasn't entirely satisfied about having gone out deep enough, even though where he was wasn't crowded. If only he could distract his dad from paying attention and calling him back, he was sure he'd be able to make it out to the deep end all by himself.

Puck and Wynni arrived at the pool and managed to get themselves a safe little spot off to the side where they could come and dry off and do whatever they needed to do to enjoy their time safely. Wynni wore a simple blue and black swimsuit with skirting and secure top that had invisible straps while Puck wore some rather colorful Hawaiian-style swim trunks. After they were nicely settled the pair wandered toward the pool. They started at the shallow end just because they could and they started to work their way toward the deeper end.
Someone caught Puck's attention. Someone that seemed a little alike himself and his sister, "Heya!" he called out to the boy who was wearing a pair of orange swim trunks to see if he could get his attention.
Wynni just chuckled and waited to see what would happen.
