If you think about ti, bando's have a short summer...it kinda sucks, u then again...it's all worth it! Right? Well, today was my first day of drill week (ugh) and I about died...I felt like I did more awful then I did starting out my freshman year (I'm a sophomore). I don't know what it is, but it feels like my backward marching and traverses are really bad, and hard for me to do...I'm not sure if it's my back tightening up and I can't turn my body for the traverses (I have a really bad back) or what, but I don't know what to do, and my director, feild captin nor drum major have said anything about my form, but I just feel like I physically can't do it anymore. We stretch every morning so...I don't know...anyone got anything to say to help me or have the same problem?

Honestly, I felt the same way after coming back my Senior year. I went through a very rough failure at Boot Camp (which, for the life of me, did nothing to improve my fitness, stamina, or anything along those lines). I was so worried about it that people did start noticing.
You have to realize that during the summer, you're usually not marching (depending on your band). Your body forgets those habits and it sucks because you pretty much have to teach your body the same stuff you learned last year.
I had to remember the difference between military march and band march >.> that wasn't difficult lol.
I understand that back problems may also have a hand, though I'm not sure what to say about that because my knee is my problem. Anyways...
I had to relearn my marching. Sure, I felt embarrassed considering I should have known how to march, but your body doesn't remember everything you learn.
I'm sure you'll get right back into the swing of things. I wish you the best of luck.

Ouch. You'll get back into the swing of things, though! Maybe during non-band days, you can exercise more, and while you're just walking normally back and forth, roll-step! (I do that sometimes, haha!)
It's really scary how fast summer went by this year. I'm going to be a senior, it doesn't feel like it... and just... whoa. Where'd the time go?

Thanks guys. And I said something to my director about feeling like on my traverses I couldn't pull my shoulder back far enough so he watched me when we did our fundamental sequence. He said I should TRY to pull it back just a bit more, but my head and flute is parellel with the side lines and that was the main focal point so it was OK if I couldn't get my shoulder back anymore, buy he also said that my backward marching has gotten sooo much better than last year. smile The thing with stretching though is that I like it and I think it helps, but I think I need to do some stretches on my own that involve my back before we start too. Last year seems like it was so easy compared to this year for some reason. It seems like I am working twice as hard this year than I was last year. Does/ has anyone had that problem?
