Character Name: Jarest *swapped. Other name in use*
Age: 16
Sexual Orientation: Disinterested (Probably Bi in the long run)
Craft/Rank: Apprentice Healer / Candidate
History: Hold born to a 'cothold, beholden to Malvren' - Jarest, the 3rd child and first son of a Weaver and his Wife. He showed little patience for the loom, the monotony of the task despite the complexity of some patterns soon had his mind wandering. Instead he found his attention held by taking care of the small animals that would sometimes turn up injured, be it trying to set the wing of an injured goose or native bird, or returning home covered in scratches and hauling with him a cat with an infected bite that 'followed him home...really', or simple tasks like pulling splinters from his sitters hands and binding them so they could still work and weave.
It was the latter than caused his parents to seek out the local Healer and ask if he would apprentice their son, preferring that he focus his skills towards healing 'men' rather than 'beasts' though Jarest has not lost his love of at least the smaller animals of Pern.
He was with his master at one of the major holds when he was 'searched', it was in fact his master who pointed him out to the dragon-rider due to his affinity for animals. It came as little surprise to his master at least that he was a potential candidate, though while fascinated by dragons and the idea of flight Jarest feels more than a little out of his 'depth'.
Description: Black mid-length hair with determined ‘in his face’ bangs, as often as it’s clipped or tucked behind his ear theirs always some bit of it that’s fallen free. Currently he’s trying to keep them longer in the hope that he’ll be able to more securely loop them behind his ear. Cold blue eyes that express determination to do as well as he can at his given tasks, a lighter build but making efforts to ensure that by the time he’s ready to take on more than apprentice duties he’ll be able to help move injured if need be.
Personality:
Jarest is focused on the task at hand regardless of what it may be, he gives himself no room for forgiveness should he fail to do it right. The more frustrated he becomes the more likely he will try and point out the flaws in other’s work even if he feels guilty after he does so. His slim fingers and almost feminine hands (much to his frustration) show promise of becoming deft at his trade such as stitches and other delicate work.
He has a good memory, which offers him some relief in his determination to do things, and do them right, even if he seldom does them right ‘the first time’ as he would prefer. In truth even when he performs a task correctly the fist time he’s likely to do it wrong the second time because he’s too satisfied with having done it right first. This is one of his greatest sources of frustration because he hates to admit that he’s forgotten something important to his task.
He’s often socially oblivious, lacking at times, the tact to approach a delicate situation and then not understanding why people grow upset at his tendency for bluntness. He strives to be polite to his superiors above all with varying degrees of success should he be too focused on another task.
He’s the kind of person who will answer honestly that “yes, that tunic makes your butt look fat” – even if you were hoping for a little white lie. His open honesty is one of his biggest ‘social’ failings at times though he’s at least reined it in to the point where he will express these opinions only when asked.
Other: Slightly claustrophobic, he feels deeply uncomfortable anyplace where he can touch all walls with his arms outspread.
