xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxArt from my own hand.

Alright, let me start off by introducing myself! I am a u r u m_ENSIS, but you can call me... well, anything really, so long as I know you're talking to me. I've been doing art since I was about 4 and seen my first episode of DBZ (s**t was hardcore...).

I'm a bit cocky in all facets of my life except for what I consider my art. This means writing, making games, dancing, and of course, drawing. I'm as humble as anyone can be when it comes to art, and always looking for a bit of validation, so if you want to leave me a nice compliment, go right ahead and do so.

My selection goes back to about winter of 09'. Not too old so everyone should have a decent idea of where my talents lie as of right now.

Well, here goes! The list starts from oldest to newest.

xxxxxxxxxx1. This one was done for a friend back in November of last year. It is back when I still shaded using my hands. This is the uncolored version.

xxxxxxxxxx2. Colored version of the previous entry. Only one color per area and I let the hand drawn shading take care of itself. Done in a totally legit copy of Photoshop. Ok, that was a lie... but you can't blame me, its like 900 dollars or something...

xxxxxxxxxx3. Another bit of Avi Art. I did this one a week or two after the last one. I forgot to shade using my traditional way but it led to a good outcome I think.

xxxxxxxxxx4. This time I colored it all in PS, from base colors to shading.

xxxxxxxxxx5. From here on out I won't show the uncolored versions. This was another commission. This time for an OC with a red eye. I would say that I was still at the beginning stages of coloring in PS due to the fact that you can see the lines between the different colors. Still, I like it. The pose looks natural and the tail of the coat drapes like regular fabric in my opinion.

xxxxxxxxxx6. Another avi. Still not all that great with PS, but I'm starting to get the hang of it, I even added a few highlights in there which I didn't do with Photoshopped colorings before.

xxxxxxxxxx7. Another commission, this time an OC. It was a drow elf... thing... I'm still not clear on it, I've never been big into D&D. Nothing much to say about this one. It is what it is.

xxxxxxxxxx8. Another avi, and another provocative pose. By this point most of the commissions were asking for their females to be in a sexy pose. The shading in this one was a step above the rest, in my opinion. I also have to say that the pinstripes and smoke heart were not fun to do...

xxxxxxxxxx9. This one was a personal project, finally. I did it back in the beginning of February. I had just come off of my 8th, out of 13, playthroughs of Mass Effect 2 and just had to draw my main Shepard. The hair is better in this one than the previous ones, as is the shading, though from this point it only gets better I think. The arms are a little iffy, due to them being in the foreground you can't make out the elbows making it look like she has T-Rex arms. As a whole, I very much enjoyed making this as well as the final result.

xxxxxxxxxx10. This was my avi a while ago. I did it quickly for a sig, as you can see, so while I do like the pose and proportions, I'm not thrilled with the coloring. Not bad by any means, but not my best. Also, feathers are STOOPID! This was done April if I'm not mistaken.

xxxxxxxxxx11. Another VERY quick one. His pants and chair are not colored white, they just are not colored. This also has a mix of traditional shading and PS shading which makes it stand out a bit. This was done for a Bleach RP that never materialized. Once again, done in April.

xxxxxxxxxx12. This was another commission for some guy's jedi. The artwork behind this is not the best I've done by any means, in fact I'm not proud of it at all, but it is my most technically difficult run in Photoshop. The Lightsaber was a b***h to do, pardon the French. It took several layers, featherings, effects and I wound up doing it a good 6 times before I figured out that I needed a black background for it to show up. Hmm, I thought to myself, it needs a black background to be seen, but then I won't be able to see the art... You can see my dilemma. I finally settled on doing a gradient but I still was unhappy. Done in May.

xxxxxxxxxx13. Another personal project, my first OC, spawned by a marathon of DMC amvs. I didn't want to copy the characters exactly so I just took the color combination and ran with it. The shading is the best I've done, as it the coloring. Multiple layers, colors, and shading techniques went into this bad boy. Done in June.

xxxxxxxxxx14. Another OC, this one was inspired by a bunch of girls I saw in a gun comp. They all took medals, it was scary. I went with yellow and baby blue for the color scheme because I thought the light colors would contrast well with the subject matter. I'm pretty happy with it, but the skin color didn't work out due to a PS mess up with yellow and me being too lazy to fix it. Done in September.

xxxxxxxxxx15. After I got the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC for Mass Effect 2 there was literally NOTHING else I could think of but this, so I drew my mind's desire. If you're not familiar with the game you may wonder why there is a girl kissing a blue alien girl. To that all I can say is... because they are a cute couple. Just a quick note, please take note of Liara's (blue girl) freckles, they are purple on blue skin and HARD to make look natural... Done in September.

xxxxxxxxxx16. Commision for IAL's very own Shiva_Goddess. Nothing to really say about it, the pose was simple, thank God, and so was the avi, so it came together pretty quickly and I had a bunch of fun doing it. It is also about time I got to do a sweet looking girl rather than one who looks like she could make a man out of you. I also put a shine in her eye which is a pretty "manga" thing to do, but it seemed to work here.

So, there you have it, what do you guys think?

First and for most, I must say that I'm very impressed with the idea that you began drawing at the age of four!
I mean, I'm sure all children draw when they're young, but if you were drawing seriously, and not just coloring outside of lines in coloring books, then that's very impressive!
I didn't start taking my art seriously until I was in 4th grade!

Anyway!
I think the best part of your art is the fantastic proportions!
I have problems with proportions still, and so when I see someone who's good in that area, I get a little jealous!
XD
And I'm totally jealous that you have PS!
I only get access to it when I'm in my graphics classes during the school year, and then I've got to balance my personal projects with required ones.
=(

First and foremost let me say THANK YOU for all your nice compliments! Yes, I did start "drawing" drawing at the age of four, I still think if I had to pick my best DBZ drawings it would come from something I did at that age rather than something now.

Yea, I would have to agree, it is the thing I think I do best. A quick tip would be to use references, it is the easiest way to learn how a body is shaped. Also there are a few little tricks to keeping proportions. A body is usually 5 head lengths long (I like 6 personally); foot length is the same length as the inside of your elbow to your wrist; your head is five eye widths apart, with an eye width separating the eyes. Also, if looking forward your pupils line up with the tips of your mouth, and your inside tear ducts line up with the ends of your nose, and the little "mountains" on your lips usually point to the middle of your nostrils. Your eyes are half way up your head, and your nose is just over 25% of the way up, your mouth is just under 25%.

Those are some of the ones I always keep in my mind, but there are more to learn.

Also it isn't hard to get PS. You just have to be a bit amoral...

You have some really nice artwork and you can see where improvements were made. I took a few art classes, but I'm not any good.
I can make drawings into vectors though on the computer. I'm a vector artist.

Anyway, great stuff and it makes me smile that DBZ started you off. [wipes eye] I'm so proud
