It had been so long since she saw someone who wasn't related to her. It was all Mama and Papa and Uncle Dai and Lukia, and no one fun came around except Cousin 'Mov, and where was the fun in just family? She missed people who weren't related to her! She missed her hoards, but especially her very first friend, the girl who had found her her family--
And that was what brought Lucy to a tiny little shop, sitting out on the porch steps like if she just sat long enough it would bring out Miss Guin. They'd gone to a Halloween party together! And Miss Guin was part of her hoard! Those were bonds deeper and more true than life. She felt pretty strongly that this was the absolute truth.
She thought about knocking on the door, turned on her heel and banged, twice. "Miss Guin," she called, pressing her hands flat against the door. "Miss Guin?"

Guinevere had been on a coffee run, and when she saw the girl pressed against the door, she nearly dropped it. "Lucy!" she called, rushing over to where the little girl was asking for her. "What on Earth are you doing here all alone? Does your mother know?"
Guinevere had found Lucy a home, and thus worried about her more than most Herald children she knew. This was impressive, because Guinevere was a natural worrier anyway, and worried about Herald children the most. "Did something happen at home?" she fretted, looking Lucy up and down for signs of being a Battered Child. Seeing nothing, she relaxed a bit and said, "I'm not done working, but if you're very quiet, maybe... Well, maybe I should ask Hae-Min about it. Wait right here, okay?" She reached out to give Lucy a pat on her golden head, and then quickly stepped inside, coffee all but forgotten.

The little orange girl broke off from the door, arms looped behind her back as she looked towards the person calling her name. It was definitely Miss Guin, with the sharp gray wings and the ribbons and the purple hair. Lucy could recognize her Miss Guin anywhere, and one of her brightest smiles was brewing on her face as she approached. "I was lookin' for you," she said, reaching out to lace her fingers into the edges of Guinevere's sweater. Her smile was cherubic. "Mama's out at practice and so is Papa. They won't worry, 'cause they don't know."
It was true that Lucy didn't resemble a battered child at all. She looked exceptionally well-kept, in fact, her glossy orange hair drawn back into a clubbed sort of braid. Her clothes still looked like she'd stepped out of a fantasy game, but that wasn't odd, comparatively. "I'll be quiet," she volunteered. And she watched Miss Guin head inside, looked at the little tray of coffee, picked it up and followed. The Daemonolgie shop was as familiar as always, which was to say, not at all. She peeked around the corners, looked up the stairs. Over the slosh slosh of the coffee she was holding on her head, she could hear Miss Mhin saying that as long as Lucy was quiet, it'd be fine. Lucy, therefore, settled in between two rows of books, and put the coffee down next to her.

Thanking Hae-Min profusely, Guinevere quickly stepped outside to tell Lucy. Finding no Lucy outside, she blinked for a second and panicked, rushing back inside. As discreetly as she could, she hissed, "Lucy? Lucy?"
When she finally noticed her, she let out a sigh of relief. "Oh, there you-" At that point though, she saw the coffee next to Lucy and realized she had forgotten it. "Ah, Mr. Fauste and Mr. Mhin!" Picking up the coffee carefully, she whispered, "Stay right here, please!"
A few moments later, she came back. "Okay," she whispered, "You can sit next to me while I work, what is it you want?" She had Lucy had lived together for the short time that Guinevere had been trying to find a home for her. Lucy was a big priority in her life, even if she had a real mother now.

She stayed, of course, even though it was somewhat backwards. Miss Guin was her hoard, not the other way around, and she didn't want to have to kowtow to her hoard like in the play Mama was practicing. It wouldn't make any sense! The whole order of the world would be messed up!
Still, Miss Guin was not just Lucy's hoard, so she should probably listen.
When the purple-haired girl came back, Lucy hopped up, bouncing on the balls of her feet. "To sit next to you while you work," she said, snatching up Guin's hand into hers. "Plus I had not seen you for forever, and forever is a very very long and very sad time!"

Guinevere smiled sheepishly. "Sorry I've been so busy," she admitted. "I've been trying to figure out a way to work and go to college so I can finish up my education, I've been sort of busy lately." Times were tough in Guinevere's household, mostly in the 'having money and also doing normal teenager things' department. "But I never forgot about you or anything! How are you? How's Maria?" She didn't really know Etienne all that well, but it was impossible not to get to know Maria if Maria wanted herself to be known to you. Guinevere wasn't particularly close to either of them, but was at least vaguely approving of them as parents for Lucy. However, that didn't stop her from nosing into the circumstances of Lucy's home life.
"Is she feeding you all right? Is she being nice to you? She doesn't hurt you or anything?" Lucy was promptly examined for signs of neglect once more, but Guinevere again found nothing, despite her fussing over the little golden girl.
