Swirls of snow raced around her head as the blueberry coloured wolf padded through the icy field. Her tongue flicked out to catch the odd snowflake, a smile spreading across her black lips. Her tail whisked and suddenly, overcome with youthful enthusiasm, she bounded through the meadow, the wind in her fur. Her paws sank into the deep snow as she ran but it did not deter her. She felt more free than ever.

This lasted quite a few minutes until her legs ached and her fur was almost frozen over. Panting heavily, quite pleased with herself, she began to seek out shelter. Her legs stretched out as she walked eagerly, her tail swaying behind her icy body, eyes glimmering.

Eventually she came upon a large den and, sniffing cautiously, she entered slowly. Saph tilted her head and smelled each and every crevace of the entrance to make sure that no one owned this den and, unable to tell over the stinging cold, she continued forward warily.

"Hello?"

A shadowed lump of wolf stirred vaguely in the back of the den, woken by the she-wolf's hello. The lump's brown-furred head rose a little, white-rimmed eyes blinking sleepily. He had found this den by pure chance, and hadn't thought much beyond the fact that this was a rare opportunity to sleep in a warm(er) place.

"Nnn?"

He shook his head once, clearing it of sleep, and turned so that he was facing the wolf in the entryway. "Hello?" He echoed the female voice, ears turning forward.

(( Sorry, was on the phone. x3; ))

(No problem! ^_^)

Jumping with surprise, the spirited female twitched her ear, tilting her head and looking towards where the voice came from.

"Uhm... hi?" she squeaked. "Oh.. uhm... sorry, I didn't know.. I didn't know anyone was in here!" Clearly, she was afraid that perhaps the wolf in the shadow was some irritable hulking beast looking for fresh prey or something.

Thin as he was, thanks to the meager choice of game in the winter months, this particular wolf was nowhere near hulking and dangerous. He was downright shy, most of the time. But thanks to the fact that he had just woken up, a lot of that shyness didn't register at the moment. But not all of it. And he was easily confused when he woke up.

"What? No, it's okay, this isn't really my place. I just found it." Now his ears lay back just slightly, surprised by the she-wolf's behavior. All of the other females he'd met had been assertive, so it was something of a shock.

Her muscles relaxed slowly and a smile slid across her maw as she tilted her head with a soft woof of proper greeting towards the friendly not-so-hulking male.

"Oh, okay." Suddenly, her voice became slightly shy. "Do you mind if I stay in here too? It's cold out there." As though to prove it, she shook her coat and tiny shards of ice went flying everywhere.

Returning the woof, the male moved to the side of the den- having packed his body in the back of the living space. Turning his head breifly away from the tiny flying ice, he let a small smile of his own slip onto his jaws.

"No.. I don't mind. It's not like I have the right to chase you off.. My name's Duhkha, by the way." He settled down again, tucking his paws beneath himself for extra warmth, though the comfort level of the position was debatable. Raised in the snowy north he might have been, but he wasn't immune to the cold. He just seemed to enjoy it more than most other wolves.

Saph made her way to the opposite side and nestled down, wrapping her tail around her body. She was rather happy to have some company for once, since she was mostly a loner. Plus, Duhkha seemed like a friendly fellow, so she was doubly pleased.

"I'm Sapphira, but you can call me Saph." She smiled again and her ears returned to the friendly, default position as she mimicked him and tucked her paw underneath her body.

The smile already there widened by a small measure, his own ears rising forward in response to hers. As assertive as Hati or the other females he'd met she may not be, but she was friendly, which was plenty good enough for him.

"That's a nice name." There wasn't a lot else to say, really. Not being one of the foreign humans, he didn't make the connection between her name and an apparently important stone of the same color as her pelt, but he liked it all the same. His sounded like someone had sneezed.
