Ok, so I was on the lifestyle discussion thread, and some girl had a signature banner that said "Proud Teenage Mom. Age doesn't define how good a mother you are."

... WHAT THE ********?!? This is a VERY stupid message to send to people! The best part about it was the thread was about how the chick kept getting made fun of for that banner...

So anyway, thoughts on that.

well, here in crap-town, CA, teenagers have very little to do (well, few legal things to do) so we either A) play video games, B) break laws and have fun anyways, or C) eff your boyfriend and have a baby!

honestly, we have, like, the highest rate of teen pregnancies. because of this, i can't really say anything bad about her. see, i know a lot of good teenage mothers who are still with their baby daddy's and/or who get enough support from an adult/parent that they can love and take care of their baby until they are able to go to college or get a job and then move out with the kiddie. there are plenty of proud three year olds watching their mommies graduate. then there are the ones who get dumped by their bfs and proceed to have sex with a bunch of other guys in hopes that he'll love her and take care of the kid. or who dump the kid with the grandparents and get outta the baby's life.

where i'm from, the moms are generally good teen parents. however, i dunno this chick. the odds are against her for being a good mom, but ya never know, i guess.

The only thing I have to say is: If having a baby was her choice that's great for her. If she messed up and pulled an "Uh-oh" then it is what it is. As long as a parent is able to care for their child, regardless of the age, there shouldn't be a problem...

BUT if she's getting upset over people making fun of her for it... she brought it on herself and she needs to stop showing it off. If she's proud to be a teen parent she shouldn't let people get to her... so my guess is, she's probably ashamed of herself for it without her realizing it or she's just denying it?

the same could be said for any homosexual kid who gets beaten up. lord knows we would still complain about it, though

Well, that's the thing about most of the world's citizens. There are always a lot of nice people, then there are the ones that attack you for being different. As for the proud teenage mom, she can't be to proud about that. My mom was a teen when she had me. And ever since she's had financial issues from lack of child support and another mouth to feed. The girl probably doesn't realize how hard it's going to get.

For one: It's a different situation. Who you like can't be helped, having a baby when you're 16 is easily preventable.
Secondly: What I said applies to everyone on here too... if you're having problems with people making fun of you or hurting you... then don't go showing it off. What people don't understand, they don't like... and most straight people can't understand us, and no matter how much we wish they would... most of them won't. Sadly enough it's usually better to hide your true self than let everyone know and you end up getting hurt even more... and THAT'S the part that I complain about, not what people say about me or do to me.

yes, it is a different situation. i used it because i knew it was one that we could relate to in this guild. and yes, she could have prevented having the baby, but the fact is that she did. the thing is, though, that she isn't one of those mothers who regrets her baby like many other teenage mothers. she doesn't look at her child like a mistake or wish any ill will upon it; she is proud of it. we are proud of our differences as homosexuals, bisexuals, transexuals, etc. we aren't necessarily accepted but we still show it off in pride events and on a daily basis whenever we argue with someone about it. yes, it is different, but similar in the sense that they are both situations that are looked down upon by society. she is speaking up against everyone who thinks negatively of her pregnancy the way we speak up against any close-minded person who opposes homosexuality. we (speaking generally, not necessarily about you in particular) do it just as much as she does, so i don't think we should look down upon her for it.

I'm not really judging at all... one of my best friends just turned 16 and she's pregnant, and she wants me to be the godmother of her baby and I gladly will...

This was just to prove a point that you shouldn't complain about people picking on you when you show off what you're getting picked on for.

Whether it was a mistake or not, there comes a point when you are proud of being a parent. Yes, it might be way too early for children especially since you are still a child yourself but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be proud of something great that you have brought into the world. So I think that maybe its not so much being proud of the fact that she did something and ended up having a kid but being proud of the child that she now has and it also seems like a way of dealing with the fact that she is a mother now.
And picking on her is those peoples problem, not hers. If all they have to do in life is pick on other people then maybe they should just, I dunno...go kick themselves!
This is life on Earth. Its not perfect. It never will be, but just a tiny part of making it better is helping our fellow man, not making fun of them.
