So, yesterday I finally downloaded "Mix 2" from Gorillaz-Unofficial, and I have to say I was....surprised. It's an interesting track, to be fair. I like it, but others might not, especially if you don't like your 2D sounding like nails scraping a chalkboard. Honestly, whatever Damon was using, I want it.
The beats on "Mix 2" remind me of older hiphop from the '90s, something Mary J. Blige might have used (only with a UK feel to it) It's been described as a "retarded" version of a rap song, though it's not like the rap equivalent of "Song 2."
So, anyway, discuss the song. Here's stuff I'd like to talk about -Does this song have any value, or is it just an unfinished ditty? Is it meant not to have any value? -What do you think the song means, if anything? -Does the title, "Mix 2" have any significance? -What are you doing with the cam, anyway?
And here are some lyrics for you-all to peruse. It's what was on G-Unofficial, slightly edited by me: Ah, what you want with the town that you can't put your eye on It's a train put out there and looking done What you doing, sending sisters to the other side? It's hard enough, it's hard enough What you doing with the cam, what you doin with a cam Why they're walkin' gives them any face What you doing with the cam, what you can with a cam Just blow it up, blow it up
It's easy Come back, true love Every day, every day it's easy, Come back Gone but single, here now
Doing with a cam that you can't put down Cos then you're walking It's playing cool to get But what you can't get a man can't forget Because honestly, I'm a nice devil What you doing with the cam that you can't believe? I don't love myself, I call the child police Oh, what you doing with the cam that you can't believe? Just blow it up
It's easy Come back, true love Every day, every day it's easy come back Gone but single, here now

ahh, so very 90s. but i don't much like downbeat rap. still, 2D, no matter how unsuited for rap he is, still sounded cute in the sutuation. 3nodding

I love it when Damon sings high like that. First thing I said when I heard it was, "What the hell was he smoking and where can I get some" Honestly, I always though the chorus sounded more like: It's easy, Come back, Turn left, Nearer now, Clearer now. It's easy, come back, Gone by, See me now, Hear me now. XD

Brutha's. cool
Just a theory about the song, but might the "cam" be that someone's either filming a music video, or might it be *le gaspe* a reference to some sort of addiction?

Ah, I loves that song. Don't worry, loves, when I become a famous celebrity (WHICH I WILL! I WILLL!!!!!1111oneone!!), I will walk right up to Damon Albarn at one of those parties celebrities go to, or at the drug rehab center, wherever he is, an ask him what th'lyrics are. But until I do that...
um. I thought he was...I dunno, like, meaning, would you do it with someone named Cam...Or that he's looking at a music video, an finking, "What are they doing wif tha' camera?"
I dunno...if there's a drug nicknamed "cam", an it's a painkiller, I'd prolly know it, but I've never heard of it. Maybe a "Cam"'s a type of drug dealer, and it'd mean, "Would you do drugs with a Cam..."
I fink...actually...it may be just nonsense. An all our theories will have gone t'waste...

Two Dents Tusspot um. I thought he was...I dunno, like, meaning, would you do it with someone named Cam...Or that he's looking at a music video, an finking, "What are they doing wif tha' camera?" I dunno...if there's a drug nicknamed "cam", an it's a painkiller, I'd prolly know it, but I've never heard of it. Maybe a "Cam"'s a type of drug dealer, and it'd mean, "Would you do drugs with a Cam..." Hmmm. Both those theories might work. Somehow, the first one seems a bit more probable.
Now, don't laugh at me, but I thought it might refer to shooting a porno, and someone (maybe Muds!) having that sort of addiction.
Or maybe my mind's just been in the gutter too long.
