Viene had been sleeping through most of the day, the warm sun on her fur put her in a deep sleep. It was only the cool wind that swept over her fur that awoke her that night. Stretching her paws and pushing herself backward she lifted herself off the ground. The bush she had been sleeping under had proved to be a suitable cover. The night was her favorite time to travel and explore. Her dark fur blended in so well with the shadows of the forest. Her electric green markings often scared others away which she often found amusing. Her eyes adjusted to the blackness as she crept out from her shelter to explore the new night. Are you coming? She looked back to the empty bush. Come on now we have to be going now, there are places to go and things to see tonight! Giggling quietly she flicked her tail as if beckoning someone to follow but there was no one there. Hmmm mmm mmm mmm, Viene hummed to herself as she moved from shadow to shadow. Let's play a game! She said aloud. You can't go out into the moonlight, if you do, then you have to roll over and play dead! She hopped from shadow to shadow avoiding the light from the moon. Amusing herself, her laughter echoed through the forest. Going along her ears pricked up. She heard something. Something different. Was that you? She called out, waiting for an answer.

Nighttime and the moon kept Julie horrified of her surroundings. Long lost memories of a time that she was happier, until she was broken. Mercifully, she didn't stay long in her lucid state before the veil of fantasy slipped over her thoughts and eyes again. She was a puppy, and her best friend was at her side and they were bounding after some small creature or another. Juliana ran with long strides across the moonlight littered landscape of the forest, until a voice which didn't belong to herself or her puppy friend reached her ears. What was that, another new thing come to terrify her? The wolfess came to a slow stop, letting her eyes adjust. None of it was there, and her imagined puppy friend looked up at her questioningly. Why had they stopped chasing the chipmunk? But she wanted to know who this new visitor to her illusions was. I'm here! She wanted to say it, but the words couldn't come from her mouth, Juliana did not hear the sweet echo of her own tiny puppy voice. But the full grown, real Juliana had in fact called out, "I'm here!" indeed, ears up, eyes at attention seeking Viene's deep green and black pelt out on the dark landscape. It was a little easier than she'd hoped, pure black stood out in bright moonlight. The multicolored mottled female stood in full view of the other lone, the two of them a color clash but perhaps not opposite in personality. The puppy looked up at a green and black wolf with wide eyes. She looked nice enough, Viene was smiling and so Julie smiled back, her little tail, real and imagined, swaying back and forth in a pleasant greeting. It was all fake though, wasn't it? Under the moonlight, there were only nightmares, and so she created this world for herself where she would be safe. "I don't remember seeing you before. Why would I make you up, I wonder?" Sane sounding voice echoed back to mottled ears, and the little puppy was gone, leaving the scarred, scared full grown Julie to deal with some sort of interaction. Even if it was real, please let it be harmless. Her own memories walked under the moon sometimes, and those could be terrible. But this one really did look nice enough, and it would be good to talk with something that wasn't out to hurt her in a setting like this. Perhaps she wouldn't have to retreat into her own mind to escape this time.

Oh Hello! It is you!
Viene turned he head to one side, suddenly her dimely faded companion came into full light.
Now, there you are. Viene had thought her friend was a different color this morning under the bush, but her mind fluttered and she soon forgot.
Oh how nice you changed colors!
Viene could no longer distinguish between what was real or not anymore. All she could see was a sharper image of the wolf who had been with her before. Had she been with her before?
She giggled, you look good in brown and white, oh and what pretty pink jewelry! Oh silly, you are in the moonlight. You know what that means, I win and you have to roll over and play dead.
Viene laughed and jumped out from out of the shadows into the moonlight facing the other wolf. Her sense of smell got the better of her and she flashed into reality. Life, real, breathing. Then a faded image came into view. Turning her head back to see, and then back to the wolf in front of her.
Look! Here comes our other friend, ómahkapi'si, you know Oma? Now we can all play together. It's your turn to pick what we play or where we go.

What?
"What?"
Juliana stared at her new companion for a moment, and a slow smile began on her fine muzzle. A friend! Her imagination didn't seem to recognize that it was in fact her imagination, though. But this was good! Normally the full moon frightened her so, and playfulness was miles better than the nightmares that usually haunted her.
Just thinking about the terrors made Julie feel the earth at her feet start to give way, but she leaped to the side and wagged her tail high in the air. She flopped over for a moment to play dead at the bidding of her mind, but was quickly up again when the other leaped out into the moonlight.
I've never seen that pattern of fur before. Are you certain she's not there?
Here! Was it here? No, Julie had illusions this convincing before.
But what to play? Was the black and green wolf asking her? The mottled brown and white female swayed her tail slowly, thinking. She was a puppy again, and what did they play? Juliana racked her memory, and came up with a fantastic solution! Her front paws hit the earth and tail wagged high in the air, a play bow from the little pup, and then a yip at the illusion to signal the start of a chase! Everything about Julie's posture yelled 'Chase me!' before she took off in the opposite direction through the moonlit wood, and boy she was fast! A life of fear could do that to a wolf.

La di da, la di da, Viene hummed in her head as she watched her companion wiggling on the ground, then in an instant she was up and running through the woods.
"Oh, tag! A wonderful choice!" She dashed off following her companion through the trees and past the bushes. The midnight scenery blurring into gray and black.
"Silly you!" She called out, "You are so fast but I'm faster, I'll get you!" she laughed playfully as the chased her further into the woods, not seeing where either one of them was headed.
Viene caught up Julianna and ran beside her.
"Oh isn't this fun! You know sometimes when I'm running fast like this I like to sing a song, do you know any?"
Viene had completely forgotten she was in a game of chase and instead paced herself with Julianna, not even reaching out to tag her!
"Dum dee dee dum, I love to run, don't you like to run about? Feeling good, feeling fine, with this little friend of mine. Oh that's a good one wouldn't you say friend?" She laughed between breaths.
"By the way where are we running too anyway?"
