Two wolves padded side by side through the thick underbrush. They paid no mind to the foliage that swept across their fur, nor to the bugs that attempted to latch themselves onto the passersby. They were siblings, though one looking at them might not assume so at first; they had little in the way of similar coloring. It was perhaps only their matching, vivid green eyes that gave them away as family. More often than not, however, the misconception that they weren't related worked well in their favor. An enemy could be fooled into thinking one would easily betray the other, but would have a great surprise when they revealed their relations and unbreakable sibling bond.
Orion, though, chose not to make it clear that Abra was indeed his sister. He saw her as a superior, though whether it was by choice or otherwise was unclear. Abra seemed to be indifferent to the matter, as she had her own agenda to get through. Her goal was to make a pack of her own and to become a great alpha like their grandfather, Phib, had been. Her silvery brother scoffed at her plans, seeing them as far-reaching, but he nevertheless supported her in her quest.
At the moment, they were in the midst of a search for more potential pack members. Both were rather new at this, however, and so weren't exactly sure how to go about recruiting. Did they simply talk to others and ask if they'd wish to join? It seemed the most logical thing, but the most obvious wasn't always necessarily the best solution.
Thinking along those lines, Abra slowed her walk slightly, so that she fell a little behind her brother. "Do you think many will want to join us?" she asked, not quite voicing her doubts but letting a little of it seep into her tone.
"I'm sure if you just present our lifestyle to them in a way that seems likeable, then they should at least consider it." Orion, the seemingly less creative of the two. He appeared to hold no ambitions for himself and to be content to follow his sister's lead, although he was technically older.
"But what is our lifestyle?" she shot back, shaking her head doubtfully. "Lones? Is that what we are? We are certainly without a pack, and even without any lands to which we have a claim!" She sighed disgustedly and stopped moving altogether. Her brother took a moment or two to realize it, but eventually he circled back around to join her. He rolled his green eyes at her, seemingly bored with the subject.
"Maybe you've just been thinking about this too hard," he offered, pulling on her ear a bit with his teeth. Though they were adults, they had their moments of playful puppyness. Orion seemed to use those moments to distract his sister when her thoughts clouded her judgement and began worrying her too much. Abra knew this, and was thankful for his behavior. She swiped a paw at him, purposely missing and doing nothing but disturbing the air around them.
"Maybe you're right," she conceded, though her mind continued to search through possibilities. "Perhaps I should find a suitable place first. I don't have to claim it right away, but I should have some sort of... base, if that's even the right term." The term 'base' made her operation sound almost militant, but she couldn't think of a better word for it at the moment. "I mean, not everyone is going to be content to wander around for who knows how long before I actually get everything settled and organized. I also need to scout out other packs and to see which ones would be friendly to a new group springing up in their midst. I wouldn't want to claim hostile territory..." Her words trailed off as she continued this train of thought within her mind. Orion waited patiently, knowing she wanted a moment to get her thoughts in order.
After a minute or two, a look of frustration overcame the dark female's face, and she shook her head slightly. "There's too much to sort through right now, and my belly won't stop growling at me. Shall we hunt, Orion?" She hadn't missed his stomach's protests of hunger either, and knew that he was probably just as hungry as she was.
A grin crossed the silver male's face as he nodded in agreement. "Lead the way, Alpha Abra." He said her title and name in a mocking tone, but she knew that he was only playing. She nipped at the air around his face before scenting the wind. There was a small group of deer nearby, and she knew they could fell one easily. He seemed to catch the same scent that she had, and so was on the same page and ready to begin. Abra led the way away from their current spot, with her brother behind her.
With her back to him, she couldn't see the look of hostility and evil cunning that had suddenly dominated her brother's features.
