Paws ached with the hardships of long travel, but the wolf didn't complain a word. Of course, that could have just been due to the fact that he was traveling alone, and so had no one to complain to. Either way, the wolf held his tongue and continued onward with the fighting spirit of one who is determined to get somewhere. The exact location of his destination was somewhat of a mystery, even to himself, but he forced his way through the unfamiliar territory in hopes that he would find the place soon enough. Perhaps a pack to call his own, to settle down and make something of himself. Perhaps just one companion, or two, to provide good friendship that kept a wolf's life stable and balanced. Whatever lay at the end of his travels, he was eager to get there and find out.At the moment, though, he longed desperately for a good rest and a decent meal. He had been living for weeks now on the scanty diet of rabbits. They did little to quell his grumbling stomach, and he found himself expending more energy than was worth the meath. Nevertheless, he knew that he had no hopes of taking down an elk or deer by himself. They were too heavy and dangerous with their flailing hooves. He wished to keep his life, and so didn't chance hunting bigger game.
Yet this frustrated him, as he always believed that there were ways in which one could better himself. Why not train to hunt larger game, so as to better sustain himself? He had nothing to do along his journey, so why not that? He snorted and shook his head at his own incapabilities. He had left his previous home in order to start anew and make a better life for himself, but he hadn't done much of that since then. It was finally time for him to get his rear in gear and start training. With a new determination, he set a new pace. His paws protested painfully, but he ignored them.
It wasn't until a few hours later, his breathing coming out in hard pants and his legs shaking with the simple effort of holding him up, that he allowed himself a chance to rest. He had found a rather secluded stream of cold freshwater, and his throat tightened in anticipation of the liquid that would quench his raging thirst. He drank for a few minutes without a break in between, before finally collapsing alongside the water in tired contentment. There was a stupid grin upon his face, but he felt satisfied with the day. It had been a good start to his training.
