Experience Teaches Fools

Who?
Sir Jin-Ho Kyon and a tainted brush (NeonMace432) with Georgie and Adal (Zanaroo)

When?
The cold of the winer province is slightly more bearable than usual, where freshly melted water from the trees in the forest trickle to the ground.

Where?
East of Colwe, Shyregoed, amidst the wilderness.

Past the tangled brush and frozen masses of tundra shrubbery just east of the walls of Colwe, two boys stood in the depths of the snow. One, freckled and red, whose bones shivered at the slightest touch of cold, held a leather-bound book between his clammy fingers, which were shrewdly bandaged and thickly gloved. Flipping through one page after another, he pointed a single finger at the snow below him, and his blond accomplice to the side of him watched with reluctant curiosity.

"If you concentrate, if you will yourself to the strength of the Aether, if you mediate and pr-- prem--"

"Premeditate," the blond corrected.

"...And r... rel... relin--"

"Relinquish..."

"...It as a Spell, you will have captured the basic fundamentals of spell-casting. That's what the book says, right, Adal?"

Adal nodded, taking a few heavy steps through the snow toward his freckled brother. Adal took the small book from his gloved hands, then firmly grasped onto his freckled fingers to point them elsewhere: toward the trunk of a dead tree not far away. The freckled boy coughed into his other gloved hand, eyes squeezed shut; after shaking his head loose of a few tangled thoughts, he eyed the deceased bark of the tree once again.

Adal was the one to memorize the contents of the book, know it front to back, and he came to unsurprisingly realize that he would be the one to teach Georgie how to use magic. Georgie's Aperture was inviting to the Aether, big enough and concentrated enough to give off impressive blasts of energy; Adal's Aperture was either too small or too big for him to even find. Where Georgie could concentrate on a single practice for hours on end, Adal lost the patience to, and while he understood the fundamentals better, Georgie simply knew how to do it better, whatever one did to cast Magic. Adal didn't believe in unearned talent, yet there one was, reading a book and being unable to pronounce broken syllables correctly, and he had the honor of tutoring him...

"First of all, Georgie, aiming magic at the soles of your feet while still practicing is a very bad idea. You do understand that, don't you?" The blond watched as Georgie sniffed and brushed his wet nose against the ends of his jacket sleeve, after which he gave a weak nod.

"Okay, that was a bad idea, but I wasn't planning on casting anything for real."

"Oh, be quiet," Adal scoffed, wrapping his hand against Georgie's wrist. His fingers were still pointed at the trunk in front of them. "First thing's first, try to melt the snow off of that tree there."

...Just how well a tutor who couldn't physically grasp his study could teach, however, was entirely questionable, though Adal simply did the best he could. The bumbling idiot was eager to learn, at least.

It was one of those days where you wish you could have just slept in. The chill of the air was rather uninviting, but still, Jin-Ho braved the wind as he walked, hoping that it would clear up a little more during practice. It wasn't terrible, but it was still enough to make your nose sting. Today wasn't a day to miss, though. Aramoth, his tutor, had told him today was important.

To Jin-Ho's dismay, that was as far into it as Aramoth went.

Cupping his bare hands together, Jin-Ho exhailed and rubbed them together, the warmth of his breath and the friction giving some heat. Today was going to be a fun practice, he could tell. The two had mostly been working on his healing magic, but thankfully they were working on fire starting, as well. Then again, the hut that Aramoth lived in was always rather warm since he generally had a fire going, sometimes with stew or other food cooking over it. From the stories that Jin-Ho was told, the man's wife was a wonderful cook when she was alive. Aramoth had picked up many tricks from her, but apparently his cooking will never be up to par.

Were those... voices? Jin-Ho was pulled out of his thought, surprised to hear others on this trail. Not that it was weird, it was just rare. It sounded almost like a calm argument, but for all Jin-Ho knew, it was just a normal conversation that they could have been having. One of them sounded rather... young.

Jin-Ho pulled his hood off of his head, glancing a little further off-road. He could almost make out the two boys. It looked like they were using magic... not that, that was odd, given where they were.

His interest rising, Jin-Ho changed his course slightly so that he may run into the two. "Excuse me, are you two practicing?"

Georgie's hand squirmed about when Adal took ahold of his pallid wrist; he was actually quite nervous, in complete honesty, and he wasn't very intent on melting anything at all. What if the spell went wrong? What if he melted the tree instead, or, God help him, he melted some hapless soul nearby that they weren't aware of? Or maybe he'd melt the skin off of himself, or maybe the skin off of his brother, in which case he'd not only be very hurt, but very angry as well, and he wasn't sure he'd be able to handle that.

"Adal, Adal-- wait, maybe I should practice something easier instead, I've heard wind magic was pretty easy to learn..." He tried to pull his hand gently away from his brother's grip, but to no use. Adal's grip was firm and strong, and refused to give hold, much like his adamancy.

Scoffing, the Locos brushed through his hair with his free hand in agitation. "What, are you scared? Scared that the spell's going to go wrong, Georgie?"

"M-maybe..."

"Well, it won't, if you just concentrate and you'll be able to melt the snow right off. Just breathe and relax."

After a bout of stuttering, the freckled boy finally decided to calm down; nodding complacently, he puffed his chest up and breathed in a fistful of cold air, then breathed out, then did that again, then closed his eyes after a moment to think, then pointed an index finger at the tree in front of him-- no, the snow on the tree in front of him-- and tried his best to concentrate. Think of cold water, Georgie, think of the kind of fire at the fireplace that kind of stings your cheeks and makes you feel really dazy after a while if you sit next to it for too long, though not necessarily that fireplace we have at the Inn, because it kind of smells and makes me sick and--

"Excuse me, are you two practicing?"

Once Georgie sent off the spell on its merry way, his eyes jolted open and he stepped back, slipping onto the snow below. Thankfully, Adal caught him before he actually fell, awkwardly holding him by his bony shoulders while the rest of him slung onto the snow like a bending corpse. Both of them stared at the tree in front of them; the snow hadn't melted off, but there was a good gaping hole in the snow right in front of it.

"Congratulations, Georgie, you succeeded in not following my instructions once again," Adal muttered.

Jin-Ho held his arms up in defense as the young man cast his spell. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you..." He glanced down at the hole in front of the stump, a smile creeping across his face, though he meant no offense. "Nice hole..."

It was rather odd to see two people practicing on this stretch of road. The man wasn't expecting it, to say the least. Especially not someone this young... and upon closer inspection, a Plague! With no tact performed whatsoever, Jin-Ho made his way closer to the Locos, just to get a good look. He had never seen one before, but, then again, he'd seen so few Plagues to begin with. He'd only met two in person, catching glances of others while out. Having now seen one of each alignment, the man almost felt... accomplished.

Extending his hand, he perked up. "My name is Jin-Ho Kyon. I work in the Northern Base."

It seemed like a better idea to say this instead of his actual position, though at least it wasn't a lie.

Jin-Ho offered his hand the the boy, as well. "Seems you boys need a tutor. Not that I have much room to talk, really." He laughed, straightening out his thick coat and turning his back to them; back towards the path.

"I, myself, am meeting with one... he's very good. Really knows what he's doing. Would the two of you like to join?"

A friendly offer. It would be nice if they followed, Aramoth always enjoyed visiters, especially those who were interested in learning. Surely he would be overjoyed to have new students.

"M'sorry, Adal, I didn't mean to," Georgie added, followed by quite a wet sniffle and a painful sneeze-- moaning, the freckled boy let his shoulders slack, then blinked and shook his head with a feeble cough. "O-ow, that sneeze hurt, I think m'back--"

Adal promptly dropped Georgie into the snow, his hands slipping away from beneath his brother's shoulders. When a splash of frost followed with a sharp gasp of surprise fron Georgie, who held down the snow beneath him like a heavy weight, the Locos couldn't help but chuckle. When Georgie mustered up enough strength to sit himself down on the layer of snow, which pricked his fingers with cold, both of the boys glanced at the man as he headed towards them.

The Malts glanced at each other with momentary confusion, both of their brows pinched together in a duality of a moment's worth of amazement-- they had thought they'd found an area rather secure and free of people, though they were clearly proven wrong. Once Adal poked his yellow eyes up at the man again, he was much closer than he'd expected, and the Plague took a step backwards in surprise. His mouth was gaped and ready to speak-- what kind of a man in these parts simply introduced themselves to a pair of strangers?

"Oh, er.. 'ello," Georgie squeaked, hazel eyes staring up at Jin-Ho with a bland, tired grin. He couldn't get himself to stand up, though he extended an arm in greeting. "My name's Georgie, sir, and that's my brother over there. His name's Adal."

Jin-Ho's proposal was listened to in silence, and Georgie nodded wildly, grinning to reveal his uneven pair of whites-- "That's just what we need, sir! Isn't that right, Adal--"

The brunette looked up at Adal, who wasn't necessarily enthusiastic about Georgie's return in greeting; his eyes were narrowed and his arms were crossed, and his swirled pupils were staring off into the distance of the arctic forestry in front of them. Adal knew that they needed a tutor, a formal practitioner of the arts to get Georgie's magic to go anywhere successfully, but he refused to agree to it immediately-- especially to someone he didn't know, and even more-so because this man was claiming to be in part of the Shyregoedian bases, the most prodigal sorcerers of all of Panymium...

Adal flicked a moment's gaze at Georgie before staring at Jin-Ho, his lips puckered into a mild, dissatisfied pout, his brows pulled close to his eyes with a strange sense of weariness. He wouldn't respond-- not yet, at least.

Jin-Ho had a habit of immediately warming up to people. While not being the best idea, it was something that just happened naturally with him and he rarely meant harm.

Once the boy shook his hand, he offered a slight tug to see if he needed a hand up, but Jin-Ho would let him decide on his own. Georgie and Adal, huh? Looking back at the blond of the two, he gave an apologetic look in return of Adal's glare. "I know this seems strange, but honestly I'm all good intentions." Once Georgie had decided that he needed his help or not, he then shoved his cold hands into his pockets. "I apologize for breaking personal space... you're the first Locos I've come across."

Jin-Ho let out a huff, his breath visible against the snow and trees.

Georgie's reaction to his former offer made him grin, seeing as he could use the company. It was a rarity to be able to just walk and talk with someone on the long road, as nice as it would be.

But the Anhelo's expression almost made his spirits drop. Obviously, he didn't want to follow, which was understandable. With the way Panymium was these days, it was hard to trust people you didn't know. If it weren't in Jin-Ho's nature, he would probably have been the same way... should probably be the same way.

After a moment's pause, Jin-Ho tried to break the silence.

"I, myself, have a tinct of my own. I've been informed that it would become a she..." he offered, trying to lift the mood. Maybe his mentioning his own Plague would help the other warm up, if not a little.

Shifting uncomfortably in the snow, the silence was thick enough to cut. Jin-Ho nodded in the original direction he was headed, giving the two the warmest expression he could muster. "I know you fellows have some practicing to do, but would you honor me with your company as I walk?"

Georgie pulled himself up back into a bit of a wobbly stand with the aid of Jin-Ho, as he brushed off bits and chunks of snow hanging from the bottom of his pants, and the tip of his jacket. The two Malts exchanged glares-- this man knew about the Locos, though while this knowledge was getting less and less rarer as the days wore on, the two were rarely confronted about the matter. Adal's shoulders eased as the Easterner continued to speak, however, as he realized when the moments wore on that the stranger seemed nary harmful, and there was a kind of comfortableness in his tone that didn't seem rushed or forced.

"Well, sir, it's nice to meet someone who isn't scared of the Plagues!" With an amiable grin, Georgie stared back at Adal and noted, "Adal doesn't mind, I don't think. His face is just kind of stuck that way."

When Adal returned Georgie's commentary a mean glare and a meek shrug of the shoulders to Jin-Ho, as if to silently say that he was no longer the bother-- Georgie was.

It was rule of thumb that, if one of them didn't seem to want to talk, the other would anyway. To the brunette it was obvious that his brother was getting rather tired, save for the fact that he was hiding it rather well-- even if he could stand the cold substantially better than he could, Adal was still cold, and Georgie knew that his Plague was getting rather exasperated in trying to teach him how to read better, all while the sole intention of getting the book in the first place was to teach both of them how to wield Magic. So far, there was little to no success in either fields.

While Georgie was much more inviting to the notion, it didn't cancel out completely his initial weariness of those he didn't know. It was a force of habit, as one would say, for a street boy to look out for his best interests, and perhaps that was also partially the reason for him to ably welcome the idea of meeting this happenstance Mage of the North out in the forest and going to some place that neither of the boys knew about for added practice-- it was to his benefit, and the man seemed quite charitable. And, well, Georgie was getting quite tired himself of not being able to learn anything other than fire magic, by will of Adal--

The brunette sneezed into his scarf. Simply put, the strongest reason on why he wanted to follow was to get out of this blasted cold, and it blew all of his other far-fetched rationalizations out of the water. Adal's brows perked at the mention of the Easterner's tinct, but let Georgie go on with the talking.

"It would be our honor to accompany you, sir! Quite honestly, neither of us have been gettin' much done in the first place."
