I just saw this on TV. Helio Castroneves was leading the Edmonton Indy race in the closing laps when he threw a block on his teammate. The block seemed to cause his teammate to lose momentum and several positions while Castroneves continued on. Once Castroneves crossed the line for the final time he was shown the black flag, and they scored him in 10th for blocking his teammate. Scott Dixon, driving for Ganassi was awarded the win without leading a lap. Needless to say Castroneves was super pissed. Frankly I don't blame him. He won that race. Maybe this is just me, but that's not really racing if you're not even allowed to throw a block. If anything that sounds like WWE.

Indy car series doesn't like people to block. I saw that when I was watching the Indy 500. Triple is right, it's not racing.

That is the style of most open wheel racing to not block over aggressively. It may seem bogus (and for the most part it is) however you have to remember that that is "open wheel" racing if you look at sprint car racing like Usac and WOO they flip over a lot because of racing too close with open wheels. Unlike in cup racing where you can rub fenders and for the most part be ok. if you rub side by side wheel to wheel..you usually end up in the wall- in a big way. The blocking rule was made to limit deaths really. I'm not a big fan of it, especially when it is misused in F1 and IRL but hey its for the better safety of the drivers. I'll take clean racing any day over another blast of fire and smoke over another car any day...I still get goose bumps from watching the 64 Indy 500 stare . In response to this form of driving a lot of open wheel organizations implement NITRO!!!! which almost makes up for no side by side racing. If you watched the race you'll notice the announcers talk about how many pushes they have left..this is how many pushes they have left at the nitro button. Which is used to speed up passes and fix the heavy blocking issue...15 pushes means you have potentially 15 easy passes to make during a race. biggrin
