February 23rd, 2005
Well, the weather yesterday wasn't all that great, so we were holed up in the mansion all day. Today it was a lot warmer, so, as promised, I took Mackenzie and Haurki out into town. We didn't get to the shops; they didn't look very lively, anyway. But we did find the greatest thing in the entire world...

A library. :O

Now, sure, Kanth has a pretty big library here, but it's so hard to
find anything you're looking for because the books are all out of order (note to self: rainyday project). But this... the building itself is huge! And made of grey-colored stone, not plain ol' brick. Large windows that let in a lot of light, and the floors are covered in maroon carpet. Big tall shelves with ladders... and really nice, comfortable red chairs. heart (Can you tell I love this place already?)

They've got there own little children's section, and everything in it is miniature to the rest of the building. It's so cute! They also offer activities and programs for young kids (as well as older), so I'm hoping that, someday, I can send Ruki and Mackie to those. It would be great for them to get interested in reading at an early age.

But for today, I contented myself by flopping into one of those big chairs with my babies in my lap and a big book in my hands. I swear, I got some pretty strange looks when people saw me reading aloud to a winged-egg and a plush shark.

Things've been pretty quiet around here for the past couple of weeks. Kanth's been gone, but she should be back at the end of the week. The Velveteen Toychest has been fairly empty whenever I've had to chance to pop in. I saw Shard, a friend of Kanth's and a Velvet owner, the other day, and he asked about Mackenzie. But that's about it. Such is the life of a recluse.

Shard's question was something similar to, "How is Mackenzie doing?" My response was, "She's a plush. She doesn't do much of anything. .-." Which is true. I wish she was a bit more cogniscient (... whatever that word is), but she's getting better. Her aura's starting to show more activity so maybe... something will start happening.

The weather has started warming up, which is a good sign. I took the babies with me to the library the other day and sat and read to them. Remember what I said about getting strange looks from people? Yeah. One of the librarians came over and asked me if I was "alright." --;

I'm still trying to figure out what to do for a house. I don't have much money right now, but hopefully things will get better as the weather improves.

Spring is nearly here! There are some patches of green grass interspersed amongst the brown, and the garden outside the mansion is starting to come to life. It's so exciting!

It was so warm out today that I took Haruki and Mackenzie out for a picnic by the lake. Of course, I was the only one that could eat ithe food, but that didn't stop me. I stretched out on my back and set Mackie on my chest. The sun on her "fur" made her feel really warm. I'm not sure whether or not full sunlight is good for her, but where she's still a plush, I don't think it'll be too harmful.

You know how people say petting an animal is theraputic? That's what Mackie is for me. I nearly ended up falling asleep in the sun. ^^;

As far as house-life goes, it's been quiet, as usual, even though Kanth got back from her trip not too long ago. Whenever Ruki's asleep, I'll carry Mackenzie around the house with me. I usually end up sacking out on a couch with her in my lap -- kinda like today, except we were outside. I've even considered putting her in my pack and taking her fishing with me, now that it's getting warmer. I'll just have to make sure I keep her some place where she won't get wet.

Other than our little family slowly growing, there really hasn't been much to write about lately, especially regarding Mackenzie. Most of our new members don't really pay a whole lot of attention to her, passing her off as a stuffed animal despite the faint aura of life around her. It's grown a bit stronger since I first brought her home, which seems to be a good sign.

I have taken her with me on errands and fishing trips, now that the weather is better. I'm able to carry her around in my backpack and she stays safe and dry. People still look at me strangely when I try talking to her in public. It's... only vaguely amusing. I feel silly at times. But sometimes I get going on a tangent about something and have to tell someone. And the only ones around are my babes, and Mackenzie's usually the easiest to carry around with me without worrying she'll fly or crawl off. It all works out.

I haven't felt too social lately, so I haven't been by the shop in a while. I should pop in sometime soon with Mackie and see how everyone else is doing. I miss "my" tiger-girl, Willow. She's a sweetheart.

Oh, gods. Sounds like Cyrus just knocked something over in the hallway.

It's been a while, hasn't it? I've been horrible when it comes to keeping up with journalling this summer.

But Mackenzie really is amazing. She finally changed into her animal form, and she's as sweet as can be. She likes to just laze around the house, usually in the company of another "sibling" or me.

What's amazing about her is that not only can she breathe out of water, but she can "swim" through the air. I was worried about that, at first, since I didn't really want to have to keep her in a fish tank. But she's managed to surprise me, as well as everyone she meets who doesn't expect to see a shark out of water.

Not to mention she's absolutely gorgeous.

I've taken her on some of my fishing trips, but she doesn't really like the freshwater lakes like Bassken (I don't blame her). She prefers the Port of Gambino and the salt water there. I've made it a point to go there at least once a week so that she can swim around in her "natural" habitat, like other nurse sharks would.

Let's see... she likes swimming, lazing about the house... she prefers moonlight to sunlight, which isn't too surprising. When we hang out in the Rec Room and listen to music, she wiggles to the beat, trying her hardest to dance along. She still enjoys listening to me read to her, and I'm not too sure about her eyesight, but she seems to try and look at whatever I'm reading. How well do nurse sharks see, anyway? I guess we'll have to figure that out.

She tries to communicate by nodding and shaking her head, or by twitching her snout in certain ways. It's kind of a pain, but we do our best to accomidate her. It's kind of like having a handicapped child who can't use their hands or speak. But we still love her, anyway. heart

Well, I can't seem to think of anything else to report. I really should stop by the shop sometime and let Mackie meet some of the other velvets.

January 1, 200...6?
The winter hasn't been too hard on our lovely shark girl, as far as I can tell. The cold weather has made her seem lazier than usual, but she's been quite alert, getting her snout into everything whenever she feels up to exploring some of the old rooms of the mansion. She and Alfie, my Jivvin girl, are the explorers of the family, I swear.

When winter decended upon us, I managed to make a special "sock" for Mackenzie to wear whenever she goes outside. It covers all of her body and has a couple of plastic eye covers that don't block her vision. The material keeps in the heat but it's heavy. She gets worn out if she has to wear it for very long.

She hasn't had much of a chance to interact with other people and creatures outside of home, but that's mostly my fault. I could take her with me to work, I suppose, but I'm not sure how my coworkers would feel about having a shark floating around the school.

Did I mention I have a new job? I'm a prinicpal of a high school. Go figure, huh?

Anyway, I haven't even been down to the shop in forever. It seems like everytime I'm by there I don't have Mackie with me or I have something to rush off and do. One of these days I'll get back there and see how everyone is doing. I've heard that there are more and more guardians getting more plushies, lately.

Mackie's almost been with me a year. It doesn't seem like it's been that long. I'm thinking I need to celebrate my one year anniversaries with my babes, somehow.
