If Enzi thought that he suspected something fishy he hadn't been talking to Anya..she knew something was up with their sister Demeter. They were denmates, Anya saw her comings and goings and at first she was only slightly suspicious that something was going on, Demeter wasn't coming home as soon as she generally did. Near the end of Demeter's little tryst the pale lioness was absolutely positive that something wasn't right. Demeter was acting testy--more so than usual.
Sitting outside their den in the early hours of the morning Anya watched as the sun just started to peek over the horizon her eyes twinkling in the low light. She needed to find a way to confront her sister..to make sure the other female was doing alright.
They were grown lions now, no longer children or babies, there siblings had children for Africa's sake! She pondered what could be keeping Demeter away and knew that it was another lion, the lioness just wasn't sure why she'd want to stay away..wouldn't he..or she want to meet Demeter's family? At least her denmate?

Demeter felt pretty suspicious and pretty low, Mja hadn't showed and she couldn't find him anywhere. Everyday after hunting she disappeared to search for him, but she couldn't see, smell, or sense any part of him.
She was stretching laying inside of the den worrying, what if she'd scared away the lion that was for her? Her thoughts also passed to Enzi, she'd been very short -nearly hostile with him and she'd broken down in front of him.
"Oh dear," she sighed and closed her eyes.

Hearing Demeter speak Anya turned slowly a stern look on her face. Demeter might be the more dominate of the sisters, but right now Anya knew she needed to be.
"Good, you're awake," Anya started the conversation with and tried hard not lo lose her nerve, "We need to talk about..about your behavior and where you've been sneaking off to. I don't mean to sound like Mom, but I am extremely worried."
"You're..you're not acting yourself," Anya padded into the den and sat beside the dark furred female. "Don't blow me off either, I'll know if you lie..I've always known your tells."

Her first instinct was to mock Anya, her defense mechanism, she was never outright cruel, that wasn't Demeter's game..but when she felt like she was being cornered she felt the need to strike back.
"I've already told Enzi, it's a wonder he hasn't told you," Demeter spoke tartly.
"I've been seeing a male, but you don't need to worry, it's all over now. I thought we were to be mates but it didn't work out." She turned away from Anya. She knew the other female had only her best interest at heart so she tried hard to listen and think only of that and not of her own pain.
"It's over," she repeated.

Anya tried to take in what Demeter had said, she was seeing someone..but he wasn't around any longer.
"Over? Before it began? Why wouldn't you tell me? We're sisters..we're close. I could have been there-here for you," Anya feelings felt muddled, she still wanted to scold Demeter, but now she needed to be sympathetic.
The pale lioness took a step toward her sister. "No secrets...after all the horrible things that have happened in our family the least you could do is make sure I'm filled in..I was scared for you..afraid sometimes that you would leave."

Demeter's eyes widened with shock and she slunk to her feet looking at Anya. "There is nothing under the moon or sun that would make me leave you, Anya. Leave any of you." Brash as she was she wasn't going to let this one go, she was appalled by the thought that she could just leave the family without saying where she was going..or just leaving at all.
"I wanted to do something on my own, I guess I've been so desperate to have a life with the family and outside of the family," she paused, "If you want to know everything about what happened, I will tell you." Demeter sighed and nuzzled her sister, tears pooling in the corner of her eyes.

"You really mean it?" the a pale lioness asked, wondering if Dem would ever leave for good one day..but she knew the answer, had known before that a lot of her fears were as unfounded as Demeter's obsession. She leaned into Demeter's nuzzle and let a weak smile show.
"I was just scared, and I didn't want to mention too much about you being gone to mom...she's busy with her life, although I know she'd stop anything going on for one of us. I didn't want to pry either it's your life...I was scared." she reiterated the fact.
"Can I at least know his name? What was he like?" She set her focus on her paws at asking, she wondered if it was as painful to lose a lover as the silly romancea stories were that teenage girls passed around.

"With all of my heart, swear on my life," Demeter answered, she sounded completely truthful and bobbed her head to solidify the fact.
"his name was-is Mja, and he was very kind, assertive, he seemed to like the same types of jokes as me. He liked to wrestle, and to take long walks. He wasn't bossy, but he made me feel submissive.." that probably sounded very odd, "Made me feel like I was completely and utterly loved."
A wistful sigh that turned into Demeter's body shuddering with a sob, "I don't know why he's gone, maybe he was scared off by something I did."

"Muh-maybe he'll return?" Anya offered weakly and helped Demeter back into a laying down position as she cried. Anya wasn't used to Demeter having such raw emotions that didn't involve laughter.
"Everything will be alright, I can promise that, just like you can promise you will never leave. I will be here, we all will. And one day you will find the perfect male, the perfect mate for you. A lioness like you deserves the world in a male." Anya spoke in a soothing voice.
She was spooked, things weren't supposed to be like this, they were all supposed to be very happy after what there family had been put through.
"Why don't you rest? You do not have to hunt today, I'll bring something back."

Demeter continued to shudder, attempting to hold in the sobs that she knew would escape her. Anya's words rang true each and everyone one of them and with her sister's droning she felt like she really could go back to sleep. She was exhausted from worry and from emotions welling up for so long.
"If you don't mind," Demeter murmured and was already starting to drift away into the realm of dreams, "I can always catch something fast..lat-" her words cut out into a nonsensical murmur and then she started to breath deeper.

Anya eased away from her sister her heart strings being pulled, she thought vaguely that it was comical that Demeter was even trying to crack a joke while falling asleep.
"Don't worry, I wont tell anyone you have a heart," Anya whispered a silly jab, something that normally Demeter would quip.
She padded back out of the den quietly to watch the sun finish it's ascent into the sky.
