@ravenkitty from what i heard is that you store air somewhere like i think i was told in your cheeks and then when you breathe in through your nose you use the air in your cheeks to continue the note but im not sure if that is correct
@Noelle Anonymous that sounds interesting i guess you would see if there was a break in the bubbles or something hmm ill have to try that or something

That's what I've been told, at least. I've tried it, but never really done it well.
On a side note, there's this freshman clarinet player who can circular breathe...it's crazy. We found out during sectionals, and everyone was like "WOAH!"...because usually our freshmen know nothing about anything because middle school band teachers around here don't teach. xd

yeah! it's something like you have to keep blowing bubbles (and learn to breathe while doing it)

it will ruin your embouchure easily, so you've gotta make sure you can puff out your cheeks without letting your mouth distort. but yeah, all you do is fill your cheeks, and expel the air in your cheeks at the same time you breathe in from your nose. you've got to do it pretty fast to keep the right amount of air pressure.

@Terra of the Lilies: We get kids from 2 different middle schools one school the kids can already play high school music and do it well, the other middle school the kids can hardly play there instrument if they can luckily i came from the good one and can play quite well but our best clarinet was a freshman last year of course she is from Texas sooooo its no wonder that she is that good
@Noelle Anonymous: sounds like a great way of learning circular breathing
@Toco Clarinet: Thanks i probably wouldnt have figured that out (im very gullible) so its nice to know that going into it

Both middle schools that feed into our school have nice teachers, but they're not exactly good, if you know what I mean... xd We started masterclasses really early this year to try to get the freshmen playing and understanding stuff at a higher level before they got to marching season, and it's helped a lot.
But yeah, on topic! Circular breathing, whoo! I've been told it's really hard to do well, and I only really know one person who can keep up a good sound when doing it. (He got a full scholarship to Peabody Conservatory of Music...so yeah, he's good. xd ) Good luck learning, though. I've been trying for awhile now.

haha thats cool i dont know anybody that can do it well maybe one person but thats beauce he gets private lessons and practices 2 hours a day on week days and 6 hours on weekends so ya he told me that if anyone should know circular breathing it should be the Tuba which is ok because im deciding whether i should play Tuba or French Horn next (im leaning more towards french horn though)

You can get the feel for it if, like in the shower or something, you take some water in your mouth, and squeeze it out with your hands while breathing in.
It's terrible for the embouchure though. Trying increasing your air capacity with breathing exercises instead.
