Hey. Just wanted to know if any one else was already a teacher in this guild or if they are majoring in music education like me. mrgreen let me know. I'm taking so many classes right now and I wanted to know what everyone else is going through. Let me know.

I'm actually aspiring to be a band teacher ^^ I'm so excited. I'm only in community college right now for basic classes (cheaper way to start) and because I was never able to get into the language classes I needed in High School, so I had to cool my heels for two years >.> Thank God I only have two semesters!

I wish you luck with all of your classes ^^ My band teacher warned me about all the work, but he said he finds it worth it to wake up in the morning and know you're influencing someone's life with music.

I plan on majoring in music ed./performance when I go to college. :] I'm kind of indecisive on what I want to get into, so I figure doing both would be good. My director is probably at school more often than her house, especially during marching season. She told my friend and I that it's a lot of work, and she has to sacrifice a lot of sleep, but it's really rewarding.

Good luck to you! My director is in grad. school, and she's still doing a bunch of school work. xd She was writing an essay on the bus ride to our adjudication back in the spring.

mrgreen Well I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. Two big things to keep in mind: 1. It is very hard and a lot of work only because your taking more classes than other majors require and 2. Its competitive. You should be taking lessons if you aren't already and be really good going in or your going to have trouble. Apply and addition for multiple schools and make sure your in their music program before you set your sights on going there. wink

Also make sure you realize that marching band is a lot different in college. I loved it in high school and it was my life but I hated it in college. Little to no fun plus you have to pay for it and not every college covers it. DCI is more worth it. Get done with college so you can go march for fun instead of a grade. Marching is supposed to be fun and a band should be a family. My marching band was nothing like that. Keep that in mind too. wink
