I have an acer aspire 5515 laptop...it has been a ROYAL pain in the bottom from day one. here is a list of problems with this p.o.s.
1) The power cord - it died about 6 months ago. Poof! does not light up...dead as a door knob! (I replaced it w/a universal power source/cable, that I picked up at an electronic store. 2) Noticed it was getting quite warm-so I purchased a lap pad. Soon, there after...that didnt seem to help---- it was getting hot! So hot that it just 'powered off'!! which created ANOTHER host of problems... 3) I couldn't do any backup discs (I suspect it corrupted a part of that program-but this I am not 100% sure), it would just stop whatever it was backing up & report that it couldnt complete task. Then I would get an error msg from the ATI-catalyst manager. Cant recall the 'exact' message....just remember it was frustrating/aggrevating error. (however, currently isnt giving me the error...just another piece to the puzzle, in case it helps) 4)Now....it is so slow!! slow!! turtle-like....heck, I could take a nap inbetween functions. I took it to Fry's Electronics....when it wouldn't connect to the internet- 3 days later & $100 lighter, it was ready. The diagnosis-my commodo anti-virus was causing the problems! which I find absolutely fascinating, since it took it a year and a half to COMPLETELY fail! eek (and my son has used it for two years & has never had a problem w/it.....O.o)
so i ask....can ANYTHING be done?? Is there a COMPUTER GURU/WITCH DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE????? I hope I have explained in detail....I will be waiting for your response (& hammer, if necessary! lol ) so, um....am I going to be notified or.....?
Oh...and a friend took it to a 'guru-geek' to have a look-see, two weeks ago. And that is another incident I would rather forget crying Did he fix it or suggest anything that would help? the answer is NO! But, he did load it up with an alternate 'defraging program & an anti spy program'....why??? never received an answer to that question. Thank you for your time and any assistance--- TxWind

Sorry its taken so long but I'll do my best. It seems with most laptops power cords have that problem. Same with some antivirus programs. My suggestion is to get a registry cleaner, antispyware and depending on your liking I suggest Microsoft's security suite. I use all these's and my own knowing (which of course couldn't help you unless I was there to look lol) to take care of things it doesn't get rid of. BUT most of all defrag your computer once a week to 4 days. Let me know if this helps.
