Writ had heard stories about malls from his friends- They were legends of the gargantuan, multi-storied collections of commercialism, with roller coasters and water fountains and all sorts of amusements all in one roof. It was a magical place where all matters of fun were to be had.

This wasn't one of those malls. It was a one-block one-story building full of pretentious clothing stores that reeked of foul body spray. The only thing that came close to a roller coaster were the fancy mechanized baby cradles that happened to look like fire trucks, or the Bat cave.

Writ sighed, leaning on the bat-cave ride. Central wasn't meeting his expectations at all.

The building Sarah entered was, in fact, the strangest she had ever seen. There were many halls and corridors, both reaching out into a pretty far distance, even though she could see to the end. Each of these were covered with many stores, and absolutely packed with people. This was a little unnerving for the young girl, but she was still completely determined to explore every area within Central.

Within about thirty minutes of her exploration, she came across a small collection of children’s rides. Inspecting a few of the rides to see if they were any good, she came across a familiar face. “Oh, hey!” she called out to Writ.

Writ brightened up when he heard a familiar face. He waved at her, and climbed off the bat-cave kiddie ride. Honestly, what kind of person thought that riding a cave was a fun time for children? He was glad to see that he wasn't the only one trying to navigate the wilds of the mall.

"Hey! Nice to see a familiar face around here. What's up?"

“Not much,” The cat girl replied with a shrug, “Just doing some exploring. And yourself?”
She looked him over. He had definitely been through quite a change since she saw him in Southern, which kind of made her jealous. It was known that the godlings went through changes every once in a while to keep up with the others, but Sarah had barely changed at all in two years. Oh well, she guessed it was Bast calling the shots on that, and no one else. “It’s been a while.” She commented after the thought.

"Trying to ride the batcave." Writ got two hands on the machine, and started shaking it with little success. He looked at the coin slot. It was a dollar to ride.

"A dollar to ride a freaking cave?" Writ frowned, "It's not even shaped like something fast." He pointed at the red race car a couple rides down from him, "How do kids find this fun?"

Writ picked himself up and streched his arms. He had been sitting in that thing for a while now.

"Come on, let's see what else they got."

“It’s a scam, I think. At least to keep the kids busy while the parents shop and stuff.” Sarah said, matter of factly. She glanced at the racing car ride with a grimace, even if it did look a little better than the one Writ pointed out, it still looked really lame. “It’s a little insulting, really. Do they think kids really enjoy this?”
“Oh, sure thing,” The girl grinned, starting to follow Writ.

"When I was a kid, we blew up mailboxes for fun. You didn't need a coin slot and a dollar to do that." Writ started walking down the corridor of the mall, "You needed ten dollars. And you needed to know the guy who made m80s. Oh, and a mailbox." Writ added that one in for comedic effect.

The mall was all clothes, and no action. It was mostly stores for the beach boy wannabes and shirtless, beer chugging douchebags. Writ never got designer clothing. A t-shirt from the grocery store and a t-shirt from Atlantic Rain were pretty much the same, except one of them reeked of cheap perfume that would never completely fade away.

Then they passed by a neon sign that screamed out "LASER TAG" in jagged, electric blue letters. Writ stopped. He had heard of laser tag- he had even heard rumors that there was one in Southern (That is, before it got nuked and all) but he never actually got to play it.

"Dude, they got laser tag!" Writ smiled, "This is officially the best mall ever."

“Blew up mailboxes?” Sarah snorted. Even when she was in the gang back before she was in the Game, she didn’t really do much. Maybe just kick a kid’s a** every now and then when they all had agreed that the kid in question was a thorn in their side, but vandalism wasn’t really their thing. “Eh, I didn’t really do anything like that.”

Following his line of vision, the girl’s ears perked up. The neon sign had instantly piqued her interest, and she was glad when he was the one to talk about it first. A wide smile broke over her face. “Awesome! Wanna go in?”

"It's fun after you get the hang of running from the neighbors." Writ smiled. Good times. The wild bunch he hung out with weren't really a gang persay- just a bunch of teenagers that took little kid Writ out for a little bit of trouble.

"Of course. It's the only interesting thing in this place." Writ smiled, "And I got a feeling we're gonna kick some a**."

The high schoolers might have their video games, and the boys of Alpha-Beta-Omega might've had their little club- But out of all the people in line, Writ and Sarah were the ones to bet on, they played the Game, and that trumped any kind of mundane experience
