Character Name: Auren
Age: 16
Sexual Orientation: Relatively straight, but not fussy about it; prefers male company but females romantically.
Craft/Rank: Runnercraft apprentice // Candidate

History: If anyone could be said to be born into his craft, Auren is it. Both his mother and his father were, and their parents were -- and so when their first son was born, there was no doubt in anyone's mind exactly what craft Auren would take up. The boy grew up in the cluster of families that made up their Station, among a fair-sized group of children quite near to his age, both sons and daughters, that had been conceived over a long winter. For the largest part his childhood was fairly uneventful, and due to one or both parents often being away, he bonded openly with all the families in the Station, as children were raised communally.
As soon as he could be taught the craft -- not that there was overmuch to learn -- Auren took to it like a duck to water. Inheriting his father's strong memory for places and directions and his mother's ability to rattle off a message all but letter-perfect after a couple mental passes, alongside a strong desire to simply be doing something and have a task in mind at any given time, he was, as expected, good at what he did. However, at age fourteen a nagging case of something latched onto Auren, making it exceedingly difficult for the young apprentice runner to keep up with the 'healthy' requirement. He chafed deeply at the restraints the ill health put on his normally active life, and the sickness held on stubbornly for the better part of a Turn. The boy insisted on moving as much as he could, but wearing himself out only made the stubborn cough worse.
After a time, when he'd been left behind by his fellow apprentices, the frustrated Auren decided to take up with a Searchrider that came by. Lucky for the poor boy, it turned out that a change in venue and lifestyle soon banished the last lingering effects of whatever illness had got hold of him, and he began to improve rapidly at Trine. Being a Candidate agrees with him, and he's very nearly back up to 100%, health-wise.

Description: Imagine a sixteen year old boy at peak condition -- now subtract about a third of that. Auren is tall, lanky, and has legs up to here -- and he's good at using them. With large hands and feet, he often comes off as a bit puppyish, but the oversized paws are where the similarity ends. A thick, heavy tangle of seal-brown hair spills down his back, and large, expressive grey eyes glitter quite brightly in a face that's maturing quite pleasantly into something that's not a stunning male beauty, but close. His skin is naturally fair, but browned by sun and evenly freckled across his cheeks and shoulders. He stands at a tallish (for his age!) 5'9", all long limbs and smiles.

Personality: There's not much about Auren that one could ever describe as 'still'. He's suited for his old job as well as anyone can be -- he loves to travel, to move and be out and about without technically being restrained. He's very much a self-starter and would rather have his freedom to go about a task as he'd like to -- because otherwise, he'll chafe until he drives either himself or you mad as a hatter. He's got a certain sort of flair that means it's highly likely one will never feel ambiguously about Auren -- he's a man that you either love or hate, with very few shades of grey in between.
Restless as any bird, he'll never be content staying in one place too long -- but at the same time, he wants someone to try and give him a reason to. People tend to take his restlessness at face value, but the truth of the matter is, Auren was raised to find home where the people he loves are, and especially since arriving at the Weyr, he's made a bit of a disconnect. He hasn't really tried overly hard to make friends, because he's not sure about the climate. Will they like him or dismiss him? He's always been afraid of rejection, and sometimes that fear can cause him to push people away. It's a weakness of his, and he's well aware of it, but has had no reason yet to try and change it.

Other: None!
