i'm quite sure that the people who come up with these place names do it just to make non residents of the town look daft when they say it wrong neutral

A bit like Norfolk, Virginia. Three guesses how you properly pronounce THAT! mrgreen Plenty of people quite scandalised by that.

ah, now you've got me wondering.. Norfolk is a county over here, no doubt the originator of all the Norfolks in America, but we pronounce it Norfook, to rhyme with book if you're from the South like me 3nodding
