On two separate nights I've had trouble getting to sleep because right when I close my eyes I begin to see disturbing and violent imagery. I push them back before they can really form (so I thankfully don't remember much of any one vision) and I try to envision positive images. This doesn't work as the positive imagery melts away to the bad ones.
The only way I've found to stop these "nightmares" is to hold onto a doll my mom got for me years ago. I've always believed this doll protected me when I used to carry her everywhere and now it seems she must protect me once more.
However, this onset of disturbing images bothers me and I'm wondering what's going on?
Is it possible I was traumatized by something I saw?
Could it be stress? (There's a lot of crazy at work.)
I just want to know the factors before I start going "I'm crazy. @__@"
Thanks in advance. 3nodding

That's not uncommon, and it doesn't mean you're crazy. A lot of people get a bad image in their mind and have trouble clearing it. It's especially common after watching scary movies (or even just the news!) or when you are stressed.
To sleep better and help reduce the bad images:
-Avoid scary movies, stressful movies, and possibly even the news before bed. -If something is bothering you, talk to someone about it or write about it in a journal or blog to help get it off your chest (and mind!). -Cut down on caffeine. -Make sure you're only using your bed for sex and sleep. You'll fall asleep faster if you associate your bed with sleep. That means no watching tv or hanging out in bed. -Don't eat a big meal or any fatty foods right before bed. Big meals and fatty foods get your stomach going, and it's harder to rest when part of your body is still so active. If you do want a little something, bananas are especially good for sleep. -Meditate. Meditation can help you relax and clear your mind. You can try looking up techniques online. -Avoid drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes. All can either make it harder to fall asleep, harder to stay asleep, or harder to get a good quality sleep.

Thank you both. I'm figuring it's stress because of work-related stuff. A lot of change has happened recently and it's all still "the cloud before the dust settles".
I'm talking to people I'm really close to about it and I know and I can work past it and keep it from being a real problem in my life.
Again thank you, I will look into those links you posted. :3
