It was relatively cool tonight in the Fox Fields, and the grass was all alight with little fireflies. They were swirling around and around, unaware they were being stalked. All that could be seen in the grass was a long, fluffy tail - grape purple and wiggling.
One...two...three!
A half-breed leaped from the grass, jaws snapping at a large moth - to no avail. It just fluttered away, out of reach. Her stealth blown, Daemetia pranced along through the grass, chasing the fireflies with childish energy. So much fun! It would've been nice to have someone to play with, but the fireflies were nice company, too. They were all pretty and shiny and...stuff. The half-breed continued her playing, wings fluttering comically as she tried to catch one of the bugs on her tongue.

Lost. It was the best word to describe the male that slowly dragged his feet along the ground as he made his way through the grassy fields. Lost, physically and mentally. He'd never actually belonged in the small group. He'd keep to himself all the time, yet every once in awhile one of them would reach out to him in an effort to drag him out of his self-imposed shell. Though he rarely took them up on their offers, it gave him hope. Hope that maybe he could one day shed this pathetic shell of himself and become something better. But then the human had left and they'd all scattered to the four winds, most of them in groups of two or three. Yet here he remained, all alone. So he drifted from place to place, barely alive in every sense of the word. His stride was unstable. His legs were weak and shaking in protest to his weight even as his stomach made an angry sound, no doubt unhappy with the lack of food. Finally without preamble his legs gave out and he flopped gracelessly onto the ground, all the while sending a cloud of loose grass, petals, and even fireflies spiraling into the air. Figuring his body didn't want him going any further for the night he resigned himself to staying put with a sigh. He kept his eyes open through and just stared off into the distance, completely unaware of the other dustling nearby.

Oooh, what was that? Daemetia spotted a dense cloud of fireflies in the distance. Immediately she began bouncing her way towards it, making a ruckus as she did so. Wait, was there something in the grass? The female paused her boinging, sniffing the air. Another Dustling!
But...why was he laying down? She crept up to him, belly low to the ground, grinning. Maybe he would want to play? Softly she called out, "Hey, 'sup?" This was no time for sleeping! Now was firefly time! She didn't even notice the male's uneven gait - she hadn't seen him until he had fallen. She didn't consider the fact that he might've wanted to be left alone, or that he was dangerous or sick or anything. To her, he was a playmate.

Zohar had been in a daze, that much was instantly obvious when he jumped up at the sound of the other dustling's voice, quiet as it was. He took a moment to really take in his surroundings for the first time in awhile, all the while thankful his limbs allowed him to remaining sitting at least. Finally he turned to glance at the female, his eyes blinking a few times as if he wasn't sure of what he was seeing.
This female was a strange one; various horns that were longer and curled, not to mention the wings! For one moment he wondered if the other dustling could fly or if her wings got in the way of each other, the next he was pondering if this was just all some really strange dream. Then again, those in his dreams never actually talked to him, so that was out of the question.
"Ummm....hello?" His voice was strained and raspy from little to no use. He continued to watch her curiously as she posed no threat to him hopefully, not that he could really do much in his condition. She seemed chipper though, even if he couldn't really read her intention. That was usually a good sign.

Oh, he was awake! As soon as he spoke Daemetia jumped back, her rear in the air like a playful dog. "Hi!" She twitched her wings absently, fanning the other male a bit. He was quite pretty for a male, and normal, too. Silently she admired his violet fur, noticing it wasn't too much different from her own.
She noticed his voice - weird, was he thirsty or sick? Maybe chasing the fireflies would help! Immediately she began to bound away, calling back over her shoulder, "Look! Fireflies!"
Though she was back to her leaping and snapping self, Daemetia kept a teal eye on the other Dustling. Honestly, she was a bit worried...he seemed a bit thin, and his voice was worrisome. Hopefully he'd join the play and feel better and then play somemore.

Apparently chipper was the right adjective to describe this female. She looked ready to pounce on him. Instead of aggressive though it was akin to the way the baby fox back home had chased and attempted to catch his tail. Zaria...he wondered how her and her father were doing.
Shaking the memories away he watched her trot off. Beneath the oddities she was just a normal female, a fetching one at that. Yet beneath that still she seemed very much young at heart. "Fire....flies?"
He slowly followed behind the female, stopping a short distance from where she was frolicking amongst glowing bugs. He merely watched...but his stillness earned him the company of a stray firefly which landed precariously on the tip of his beak. He stared at it, his eyes crossing strangely with the effort.

Daemetia laughed as the male's eyes crossed. Immediately she dropped back down into the grass, disappearing except for her tail again. Slowly she began to creep up to the male, slowly, slowly..."You ready?" She didn't explain - that wouldn't be fun if she did!

"Ready.....? For what?" Zohar turned his head and the single firefly took off, curling around his horns before rejoining it's brethren off in the distance. He spotted the female...well more like the female's tail creeping closer.
He recognized that stance and tensed up. This dustling was much bigger than the silly little fox that had used his tail for pouncing practice. "Ummmm..." He didn't object exactly to the turn of events but took a step back regardless as if bracing himself for the inevitable impact.

Sure enough, Daemetia pounced him, being careful to watch her claws as she gnawed on the males horns. Om nom nom! She paused her chewing for a second to reply to his question. "Playtime!" She tried to dance away before he returned the pounce. This was going to be so much fun!
Now that she thought about it, she'd never asked the male's name. Eh, that could always come later.

Despite his preparation, when the strange female pounced on him he crumpled like a house of straw in a wind storm. In fact that was a good analogy for his current situation. Unfortunately he was the house of straw in this equation.
When the female barreled into him he fell, rolling onto his back with his head bent forward as the femme chewed on his horns. He flailed a little bit as he fell back, but put up little resistance once he was actually on the ground. It was only when she finally backed off did he actually open his eyes. As she stepped back he sat up abruptly no longer dazed and eyes wide open. He blinked at her curiously as he stood back up, shaking the grass from his fur.
Playtime wasn't really a concept one knew when growing up utterly alone, but it didn't seem that difficult to pick up. Crouching down with his hind quarters in the air he mimicked her previous posture, his tail swishing in the light breeze. Then he stalked forward a few steps and lunged. He might have been a bit rough, but he made sure to keep his claws out of the equation like she had before.

The female giggled as she was pounced by the stranger, offering no resistance. Instead she simply played dead. Her body went limp and her tongue hung loose from her beak, giving her quite the comical appearance. She even held her breath for as long as she could just to complete the act. After a few seconds, though, Daemetia gasped and began giggling again. She'd never been able to hold her breath for very long. Needless to say, she didn't swim much.
It was nice, playing with another dustling. She loved to play! Iro wasn't much fun, though, and being a serpent, wasn't as nice and fuzzy as the shy male she was playing with now. He seemed to be okay, though earlier she was beginning to wonder. It would be sad if her new-found friend were ill.
Stopping her giggling for just a moment, she eked out a soft question: "What's your name?"
(Sorry about the wait! D: )

It was strange. Usually when he pounced on something it was when he was hunting, and even then his prey never went limp suddenly. Taken by surprise he lurched forward with his momentum, his face a little too close to the female's for him to be comfortable. He instantly backed off, but before he could apologize something seemed weird.
She wasn't moving.
The fear only sunk in faster upon realization that she wasn't breathing either. However before he could enter full-blown panic mode she gasped for air suddenly and that quickly dissolved into a fit of giggles.
It was with a mixture of relief and previous fatigue that he flopped on his stomach next to her with a strangled sound. "Don't...do that!"
He allowed himself to be the fool for awhile until his companion's giggles subsided. When she asked her question he didn't move much, just turning his head enough to meet her eyes.
"Zohar...What about...you?" He answered and echoed her own question as quietly as she'd spoken.

The female didn't even bat an eyelash at Zohar, squirming her tail energetically. "Zohar, that's a pretty cool name! I'm Daemetia." She turned to the winded male, still lying on her back awkwardly. She was ready to get up and play some more, but apparently her partner wasn't. In a rare moment of empathy she continued to lie next to him, though every once in awhile she would bite at a bug buzzing around her nose.
"What're you doing around these parts? I've not seen you around before, and I know everyone here!" Of course, that was a lie - she just thought she knew everyone. But Daemetia's world only extended as far as her knowledge went. She didn't consider what lay outside of her realm of fireflies and grass.

"Daemetia...?"He trailed off a bit with a thoughtful hum. "That's...pretty." He fell quiet again, his eyes drifting close. His breathing wasn't completely even though, proof that the male was just resting his eyes and very much awake.
"I....don't belong anywhere..." There was little emotion or sadness behind his voice, just a mere statement, acceptance. "So I wander around. I...don't think I've ever been here before?" He'd spent countless days wandering around in a daze before so he couldn't be sure, but this female seemed to know the area well. If she said she'd never seen him, well who was him to question that?
"Is this...your home? I hope I'm not...intruding..."

"You don't belong...anywhere? You mean you just wander around from place to place? That would be fun!" Finally she rolled over onto her belly, tail still swishing around playfully. It would be interesting, to see the world, meet lots of other dustlings, make a lot of friends. For a few moments Daemetia almost seemed a bit wistful. She'd always stayed around the Fox Fields, never having felt the need to go elsewhere. It was weird to consider that there was anything else in the world but tall grass and fireflies. "Have you seen a lot? What's it like out there?"
"Oh, and nah, this isn't my home. My home's over there- " She gestured with her head off to the south. All her home consisted of was a little hole and the two dustpiles she'd found a few days ago, but...it made her happy, and kept her nice and cool during the hot days.
