A sickingly hot day led to a very unhappy Thali. The temptature read 102', though said elf checked it every few minutes. Perhaps she was seeing if it had the nerve to go even higher. Perhaps she was trying to make the weather see sense and have the heat wave disappear entirely, into a comfortable seventy five. Where was Reiya when she needed her?
"Ver... Ver ver..." Thali sat up from where she had been laying on the couch to look for the source of the sound. She knew who it was, of course. "Ver..."
"Oli?" she asked, turning around to look behind the couch. "You hot too, buddy?" Instant parental concern had struck. Oliver was a shadow; a jello-like creature. Would he melt? "Oli, come on. Let's go outside for a bit, huh? Ben's set up the swimming pool," she lowered her voice to a whisper, though no one else was present. "He's even put ice cubes in it." The two headed into their front yard. Maybe Barton's weather would be kind to them.

It wasn't a good day to be a shadow, Valdin had decided as he hugged his carrot to him and carefully tailed his Axel as the little fire child was taken out and about by his mother. It was just. . . too hot. . . whimpering, the little jell-o blob looked around and spotted....... water!
With a squeal of "EeeeeeeEEEEE" he took off, vanishing from his family and dropping into a pool full of water with a mild splash. "Eee~! Valvalvaleeeeeeeee~!"

Thali stared. There was no other word for it. Another shadow? This might be fun. She helped Oliver into the pool before getting in herself, a smile making its way across her features. "Hello," she greeted the shadow. "Did you get hot too?" He was most certainly welcome to cool off with them, the poor shadows. "What's your name?" Of course, his host could have been a place or object for all she knew. Perhaps he didn't have a name at all.
Oliver splashed his way over to Valdin. With clumsy water wings on his arms, he had a hard time moving. "Oli?" he asked.

Valdin tilted his head and tapped a tiny hand to his chin in thought - which caused him to sink under the water for a minute. The shadow flailed around for a moment before regaining the surface, and shook his head so that his floppy ears flew about, making him look like a damaged helicopter. Bobbing up and down in the water, he spotted Oli in the pool and nearly fell over, so excited was he.
"Vaaaaaaldiiiiiin~! Val Val din! Eeeeeeeeeee!" He squealed, splashing the other Shadow - Oli, was it? - playfully. "VAL! EeEeEe!"

Thali assumed from the shadow's noises that his name was Valdin; though she couldn't be quite sure, not knowing everything about shadows (and she would be the first to admit that). "Nice to meet you, Valdin," she said. "I'm Thali." She watched the shadows for a moment before adding, "After swimming, we can have popsicles if you two like."
Oliver frowned as he was splashed, looking to his host. Recieving a nod, he grinned and splashed Valdin back. "Olilili!" he said excitedly. Swimming pools were fun, but they were twice as fun with a friend.
