"Roff! Roff, roff!"

Jess the Basset Hound was quite confused. His ball was once there -- now it wasn't. Where did it go? It was around . . . but now it just disappeared. It'd come back right? Right, right?

Grazie chuckled into her palm, hiding the ball behind her back. Jess was throwing quite a tantrum, sniffing around all the trees and shrubbery of the park and barking up a storm to find his favorite ball. It was not until Grazie called, "Jess!" did the Basset Hound's searching come to a halt as she held up the ball.

"C'mon boy, you want it?" she laughed, bouncing the ball and watching the canine's eyes follow its motions.

"C'mon boy, go get it!" she said next, throwing the ball in a looping arc over towards a collection of tree. Jess went in a trotting run towards the ball, his underbelly lightly brushing the grass beneath.

Where's the ball? Where's the ball? Where's the ball? There ball was around there somewhere. He could smell it. Where's the ball? The ball was near but very, very far. Where's the ball? Where's the ball?

Grazie stood there, her arms across her bosom as she waited. Where was that mutt? It shouldn't take him this long to find a ball. Though . . . she did throw it kind of far. Oh goodness . . . maybe she should go check on him? And so she did, abandoning her standing spot and making a dash towards the collection of trees.

Just keep positive! That's what Tamuril had told him after another bad day at work. Eventually the students would leave him alone right? Its not his fault that he looked different from them, or some could say different from most the other heralds. At least he could say it was put down to his sacrifice or something along those lines.

Glazier mewed sensing her owners mood. She pawed her way out of his tight grip and climbed up onto his shoulder nuzzling him. Kain smiled a little feeling the warm fur against his skin. Normally he would have chuckled but, Glazier's sudden attempt at escaping had startled him somewhat. That's when the purring started, filling the lonely herald with a little more hope for the future and then....

Fuuuwweee....Thud! Something small and hard hit Kain on the head, draining him of he positive attitude once more. Glazier started and ripped her way from one side of Kain to the other, scratching him up terribly. This was not a good day.

"Ouch!" Kain Nigel muttered, feeling the ball the roll down his side into some near-by bushes. Only the sound of rustling didn't top there, more could be heard near-by. Kain Nigel sighed and waited for the inevitable

"Roff! Roff, roff, roff, roff, rooooff!"

Jess did no know who this human was but he had his ball. His ball. He wanted his ball back- Squirrel! Squirrel, squirrel, squirrel!

Jess's attention changed from wanting his ball to the furry creature who was positioned atop the human before. He began to bark with a tail that refused to stay still. To and fro it wiggled like a winding worm. He was much more interested in the feline than his ball now.

Grazie rustled through the bushes, sighing as her doggy companion seemed to have gone quite far. However, the ball came rolling in her direction and the barks of Jess were sounding off in the distance. Something was up. Was he hurt? Curling her hands around the lilac colored sphere, Grazie dashed towards Jess's tone before seeing a sight in front of her. She sighed at this. Oh, it was just a cat . . . and a herald? A herald who looked extremely familiar . . . possibly from when she was a messenger reborn.

"Ah . . . is something wrong here?" she asked with a tilt of her head. "Jess normally doesn't go off like this . . . C'mon Jess, c'mere boy! Oh, who's a good boy? Who's a good boy? Aha, I'm sorry if he caused you any trouble. Oh, is that a cat? Wah, it's so cute!"

Glazier did not like the attention one bit. She puffed up her fur, arched her back and hisses loudly and mutt showing off her fangs. This of course, persuaded Kain Nigel to bring his hands around her, and pop up back into his carrying bag. She still spat and hissed in the last direction the dog was heard, but it felt safer within the cool darkness.

"Hopefully not for long" He answered breathing in deeply. It was annoying not having sight. As soon as it got dark he'd be able to take off that darn blindfold, but in the mean time, things would have to stay the same. Kain tried to take in the situation. The vibrations in the air told him that there were two creatures here, a dog by the sounds of it as well as something of human size. Perhaps a female, although there have been occasions were it wasn't always a female speaker with a nice voice, just a young male. Ah the voice... it sounded somewhat familiar, but then he hadn't heard anyone like that for a while.

Kain blushed as he realised what was being said to him. "Ah yes, this is Glazier, she's rather sweet when she's calm, but I think a little scared at the moment" Hearing her name, Glazier pushed out of the darkness, peering out of the bag at the strangers. She watched as Kain reached out towards the canine thinking something along the lines of traitor, not that anyone else there would know. "Who is it you have here? Jess?"

Grazie blinked a little towards the unknown but known acquaintance. Was he blind? Did he have an unnatural eye color? There had to be some reason as to why he sported a blindfold. However, she dare not ask -- it would be quite rude. For a herald who threw off all her cares and comments to the wind, she did have some manners. Some.

"Jess is the dog beneath you." she said. nudging the hound with her foot. "Jess, say hello."

Jess seated himself in front of the male, tailing worming on the verdant grass like a well, worm. He was quite short, so he stretched his neck towards the hand towards him. Jess was a dog who knew exactly not to bite the hand that fed him. However, this hand held no treats at all. Due to such, that hand deserved to get bit indeed. As the sluggish dog turned his open mouth on the male, Grazie leaped to his safety . . . sort of. Quickly, she shut the dog's mouth as it struggled to be free of the its human muzzle.

"He's very glad to meet you." she said, smiling again. That was quite a lie but . . . is was not in vain, yes?

Kain withdrew his hand having not really found the dog, but something seem to say he didn't really need to. It would look stupid to to fumble about all day anyway.

Unfortunately Glazier had witnesses the whole and hissed and spat in the dogs directs, trying to take a swipe at him. Hearing this, Kain pushed the kitten backwards, trying to land the cat in the bag. Of course, Glazier was not going to put up with this and so, hopped out the bag, and clambered up to a safe height. She spat and made a fuss until Kain Nigel gave in and started to pet her. "Sorry, I really don't know what's wrong with her today, she's not usually this way... even around dogs." He arched his wings up over the kitten, trying to make her feel safer before continuing to speak. "I'm Kain Nigel, may I know your name?"

"Gretchan Dinkley." she said in a grace tone, curtsying as her only way to show her femininity (if there even was any). "Do call me Grazie please. It sounds quite better than my real name."

She pause for a minute, mind trying to wrap its delicate little fingers around the name. Kain-Nigel, it sounded awfully, awfully familiar. So familiar actually that it made Grazie forget who this person was altogether. Was he a plumber? No, no . . . plumber's are scary people. This male wasn't scary in the slightest. His cat sure was though and Grazie had to hold back a shriek (and her dog) from its hisses.

"What brings you out to the park at this hour?" she added as apparently they were now at a conversation stage. "It is nearly sunset . . . or in a poetic tone: 'The hour when the enigmatic and graceless mark the world with their presence.' Tis not directed towards you, friend; Sheldon, I mean, my father's charm just seems to have worked its way on me. Curse that man . . . "

A smile found it way onto Kain's face, and his skin felt a little cooler. He hadn't realised exactly long his little detour had taken him. "I model up at the art school, I tend to do the evening courses though occasionally mornings, just finished my shift. It didn't go brilliantly, so I was taking the long route home." he paused agonising of whether to continue this little bable of information.

The little feline by this point had grown bored of the dog. She felt all high and mighty up on her perch that she decided it was fine to take a little nap right there. It didn't matter if her owner didn't like it, he put her through the stress that day.

As the kitten relaxed, Kain took it as a sign and hoped for the best. "The other reason is...if erm..., if its dark enough, I'll be able to see without hurting my eyes." He could say more, but it was much better to wait and see the reaction. She probably thought he was crazy or pervy now though.

The name was interesting, he had heard both before. He was almost certain he'd met her person now and that she was most definitely a lady. Although last time, neither of them had a pet, nor were alone. 'Oh no... even these thoughts seemed creepy.' Kain mentally scolded himself.

"Model?"

To Grazie, the only modelling males did were of old navy ships and war time airplanes to which they pieced together themselves. Never did she suspect a male to model themself, especially for an institution of higher learning centralized around that of the arts. At that moment (and whatever pieces of time that followed after), Grazie broke the barriers of that typical conversation and gingerly poked Kain-Nigel in the abdomen.

"Flat . . . " she muttered, blinking. "You've got quite a flat stomach. Wouldn't artists want to sketch and paint something with more structure? Like Santa Claus. Wouldn't they want to sketch something like Santa Claus?"

Though Grazie had matured to the limits of that of a lady, she still held her tentative youth within her. She gave the man a blink again, nodding to the information told. So that's why he wears the blindfold. It was quite interesting now that she didn't have to ponder it.

"That's quite interesting." she chuckled. "Like a bat . . . though they are nocturnal. Would you say that you, yourself, are nocturnal? I would say that I am but, erm, I am up at night playing video juegos."

Jess had found interest in another topic: self grooming. He had not noted his owner and the other chattering up a storm. Rather, he was concentrated on licking his brown coat clean.

Kain wriggled back at little at being poked. He wasn't really used to being touched. Unless, he was say being dragged off somewhere, or Bethan was in a temper. It shocked him, but he tried to shrug it off. For most people touching was normal right? To avoid outrightly laughing, the young herald coughed trying to bring the conversation back to something he could handle. "Well, despite there being less of me to draw, people tend to think skinnier people are nicer to look out I guess.... though I was chosen because they don't have very many male models."

Now both animals were calm, Kain found it easier to ignore their presence and carry on with the conversation. Maybe if he kept it up long enough he'd be able to see the young lady before he heads off home. "You ever thought that they might draw Santa Claus as well? Although because he's so well known maybe the students would think he's boring to draw over and over. I'm not sure. The classes are entertaining if you every sign up to one." he rambled on quite enjoying the idle talk.

The next question was a little more difficult. He did seem to stay up quite a lot.... but never for the whole night, at the same time, he couldn't stand to be up the entire day. It was a little depressing to have so many hours blinded from his world. "Well, I guess you could say, half and half... Not all day and certainly not all night, be lonely to stay up all night, but I'm not really a day person either" he responded, "Do you play multiplayer games online.... or the old retro games" he challenged. Kain enjoyed both, so when he could see, it was a fun to give his reflexes a work out. Though, so far he hadn't heard of another herald that liked it, plus his guardians hated video games.

Gretchan-chan never considered signing up for art classes. The idea always sounded vague to her. Rather, she would enjoy curled up with a nice book or shooting the heck out of Sheldon in a game of paintball. Not sitting in front of an easel with a paintbrush or piece of graphite in hand trying to sketch whatever was in front of her at that angle. Too far-fetched the idea sounded. Than again, anything normal was Pokemon number eight-three in her mind.

"I'm a retro girl, honestly." she said with a dip of her head. "Than again . . ." her head inclined towards Kain-Nigel and she lifted her hand to whisper towards him. "Don't tell Missus Pac Man, but I have a thing for multi-player games too. So long as I get to PK and stuff. Completing quests and training is a little Pokemon number eight-three and boring without a party in my opinion."

A soft flicker waved from the sun, rays pluming from the center core as it turned to set behind a hill. Had she been talking to this person for quite that long? Hopefully it wouldn't be night by the time she was done. Turning back to him, she sighed and patted Jess.

"Your cat." she began, seeing as they were bartering with questions now. "Where'd you get . . . her, I'm guessing. Yes, where'd you get her? She's adorable!"

Jess didn't think so though. He huffed though it was hard to tell if his huff was from her comment or the piece of fur on his nose. Most likely the latter but -- one can believe what they want.

At that point, Kain just had to laugh. He found her quite adorable. How cute to think, you could talk to the game characters. Though, when he was loosing at a game, he was guilty at muttering comments in their direction - that didn't count though. He personally wasn't guilty of keeping secrets from pixels. The next bit few things she said sounded more like a code to him, perhaps because he had yet to hear of pokemon, but he got the idea she played a good a set of games either way.

Luckily, he didn't have to answer, as Grazie seemed to move on quite quickly. "I found her, she was starving on the streets in winter... I couldn't leave her and ever since them, she's come with me almost everywhere" He reached up and brought the sleeping kitten down from his shoulder, and cradled her. Glazier had woken but she wasn't bothered by the move, and so went back to sleep. "You can stroke her if you like... despite her actions earlier, she's quite tame"

Her fingers stretched and flexed like growing stalks of bamboo, straight as said stalks as they pushed upwards towards the sky in growth. Her action towards the slumbering kitten was hesitant as if she was testing the temperature of water for a bath. Slowly, from thumb to the metacarpal bone of the pinky finger, Grazie touched down on the cat. A silent form of bright bliss surged through her when she skimmed her hand across the feline. Adorable! Her hand remained there while her face remained in a stickied expression of awe. Did she just touch a cat? She totally touched a cat.

"So cute!" she chimed again, just as she reiterated during their conversation before. "From the streets, during the winter?"

Grazie felt her heart melt. It sounded like something out of a book or extremely depressing movie.

"Oh goodness!" she gasped. "That sounds like something out of a book or extremely depressing movie!"

Jess ruffed. He wanted attention too!

"You are free to not pet, Jess." she said, her mouth cringing up in slight regret for not letting the male pet her dog. "He might bite your hand off. Unless you have something to eat, the mutt will most likely attempt to. Speaking of something to eat, are you famished or there of close to hunger?" She sighed. "There is a pretzel stand just a small walk from here. I sure could use one with some musty -- er, mustard. Care to join me?"
PostPosted: Sat Jul 10, 2010 6:52 am

For a while, Kain was concerned. He didn't hear a sound from Grazie, just rather her movements. Last time this was the case, someone had decided to rob him - which certainly wasn't much fun. Though he had to trust her, at least for a while... after all they had talked for so long....

Then the silence broke, relief swept warmly over the herald, warming him inside. Glazier had started to purr feeling the warm touch, and praise for both the kitten and himself filling the air between them. As he wasn't really used to this kind of attention, so instead of speaking he just smiled warmly.

Fortunately the subject matter changed shorted after being mentioned. "Well, I haven't eaten since before work, so it wouldn't hurt to grab something to eat."It had already been mentioned, that he was have to watch his diet from now on - gaining or even loosing weight could affect his job. Kain Nigel wasn't too worried about it himself, but both Bethan and Tamuril were worried that he might not find another job, if he lost this one. He shifted Glazier up and out of the way again, and began to shuffle things around in his bag. Glazier settled once again on his shoulder spying on him as he brought out a small leather case. "Sure, If you'll let me pay"

"Nonsense~!" she cried out, left hand waving about like a flopping fish. "I'll treat. Sheldon threw a handful of dollar bills at me this morning and they could use some spending. I think there's a twenty in there somewhere . . . "

Grazie pulled out the handful of crumpled and damp dollar bills. The bundle was huge; dollars were bursting at her fingers' seams.

"On second thought . . . " Grazie said, choosing to stick the collection of bills into her hat. "I think I will let you pay, aha. Unless you wish to stay here 'til night time listening to me count bills. Though that me be kind of good, than you'd be able to see but . . . " Grazie shut up post haste. She'd had been known to babble sometimes. "Sorry, sorry. This conversation is turning to be one-sided again. So, how's your job? Thinking of making it a permanent career?"

Strolling along, Jess toddled after. He'd stop every so little while on his little rumpus to catch his breath and get a good itch before following again. Where were they going? Normally, Gretchan would carry him . . . why not now? Jess did not like this at all.
