Coruscant may be the heart of the Republic, but Alderaan is it's soul. Long a place of unspoiled beauty and peace, the planet has long escaped the turmoils of war.
That changed, little less than a year ago, when the Sith invaded. Led by Darth Malgus, they struck the planet, burning much of it's forests and sacking much industry. The Republic struck back hard and swiftly, sending the Sith off-planet and retaking the planet, but the damage had already been done.
While normally known for it's pacifism, the Crown Prince of Alderaan marched into the Senate the day the Treaty was signed, demanding war against the Sith. With the peace treaty in effect, the Coruscant wouldn't dare break it, or else face more death and destruction. In fury, the Prince stormed out, determined to bring the fight to the Sith.
He never had the chance, however. Mere days after returning, an assassin ended his life, and his mother died of grief and illness. Much of Alderaan, including House Organa, desired peace and a chance to rebuild. Others, led by the long lost Royal House, favored militarism, and had Sith backing. Parliament was unable to come to a peaceful decision, and war broke out.
The situation is tense on Alderaan. The population is divided in loyalty for and against the Republic. The Republic and Sith maintain no official presence on the planet, but it's clear if the conflict here isn't contained, it may spread into other worlds.
Republic heroes should seek work from House Organa, while Sith-aligned should speak with the Royal House.
