This is something my youth pastor wrote.

Twice in American History, the Lord has brought about national revivals through students that prayed and fasted. One began in 1729 when a small group of students began praying and studying the Word at Oxford University. It had such an effect that it continued in America! Today it’s known as the First Great Awakening! Such men of God that were used during this awakening were George Whitfield and Jonathan Edwards. The impact was so great that it unified 13 “rebellious colonies” as ONE NATION UNDER GOD! Today that Nation is still standing and is known as The United States of America!

Then again in 1806 a group of 5 students led by Samuel Mills committed themselves to pray for revival among their fellow students, meeting weekly for prayer. In August, meeting in a meadow, they feared a thunderstorm approaching. They took shelter next to a haystack and continued their prayer meeting. Mills turned the conversation toward a discussion of their obligation to reach the world, proposing they challenge the American Church to obey the Great Commission by giving their lives to God for foreign missionary service. From this one prayer meeting a network of intercollegiate ministries started! It was embraced by every one of the 25 known colleges at that time! The result was one the earliest known mission societies formed in America that for fifty years was the largest agency in North America to sponsor missionaries!

These two events were results of young people like you and I gathering to seek the face of God for a move in their generation, their country and this World! Is it possible that such a move could happen again? In 2 Chronicles 7:14 it says, “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” The time of praying and seeking is now! I believe that God is looking for a generation that will take Him and His Word literally! Is that generation out there now? A generation tired of Church as usual and looking for God to move on this nation again? I believe it is! I see a generation that much like the days gone by is hungry for the things of God and passionate about the harvest of souls ready to be reaped!

The Harvest is now! The fields are white! Never in American History has a move of God been needed more then now! People are scared, hopeless, broke, busted and disgusted! They are searching for love and never finding it! Making love but never receiving it! We must step up again and make a noise in this country that will be heard around the world!

In the 1700’s there was a group of 24 young men and 24 young women called the Moravians. They decided to meet for and pray for 24 hours only! Their prayer was “May the Lamb which was slain, receive the reward of His sufferings!” That 24 hour prayer meeting lasted for 100 years and resulted in over 3000 missionaries being raised up and sent into the world! Some of them even selling themselves into slavery just to be able to reach the “un-reachable!”

History is great and we are encouraged and stirred by the stories of those that have gone before us! But we can’t forget, that just like He called, anointed and answered those that have gone before, He is still calling, still anointing and still answering us today! For; He is “The Same, YESTERDAY, TODAY and FOREVER!” It’s time we stop reading History and starting writing it!

It is very obvious that the effectual, fervent prayers of few can affect the Nations of Many!

The whole month of March as a church we are spending every morning from 9am to 10am and every evening from 7pm to 8pm in prayer! We are seeking God for a mighty move in our nation, our generation and our World! I am putting a call out to all of those that are a part Student Ministries here at the River Church and even those that are not, to come out and be a part of this time of seeking! Let’s join and believe God for another Great Awakening and a harvest of souls!

Are you willing to put aside at least 1 hour a day to lay everything aside and press in for America? Are you going to be counted as one like those before us who contended for their Nation in Prayer? Will you write History? Or will you read it?
The Generation Not Changed by this World is the Generation that WILL CHANGE this WORLD!

In closing I leave you with the words of the great revivalist Leonard Ravenhill! I hope to see all of you this next month as we seek the face of God!

In His Grip,

Pastor Allen

"Poverty stricken as the church is today in many things, she is most stricken here, in the place of prayer. We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players and payers , few pray-ers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion , little passion; many interferers; few intercessors; many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere!" –Ravenhil
