Someone on the shore with a tropical shirt, swimming trunks, and a long spaded-tipped tail was hollering something from afar. Holding his hands to his rough-shaven face to increase the volume of his voice, he yelled again.

"Wax that a**, Jurie!"

Seer-damn spectators.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 06, 2010 8:58 pm

Crrrrrrrrrkk was the sound that followed the Lamia's initial block of Jurie's staff as it slid down the length of her blade. Luckily for Viviana she always blocked with her sabre at a downward angle. (In this case, the blade was pointing down toward the left side of her body.) There was no chance of staving off the attack completely, but she did manage to redirect so that rather than the crown of her head taking the full force of Jurie's two-handed attack, the staff slammed down upon her left shoulder and the top of her forearm.

"Nnnngh." She cried out through gritted teeth, as she pulled her left arm back from its lunge with the stiletto.

Jurie however, had other ideas, and Viviana was surprised to feel the woman's strong grip encircling about her arm.

Perhaps the blacksmith would catch the smirk that flashed across the Lamia's lips.

Quote:
Serpents grace; Viviana has the ability to wriggle free of all but the surest and strongest hands.
Although her skin usually appears flawless porcelain, it is in fact made of hundreds of tiny ventral scales, just like that of her reptilian brethren. These scales are harder than a snakes scales, however they give Viviana control over how her scales (skin) grips onto its surroundings, she can either elevate the amount of friction they produce, allowing her to hug to a surface the way the tread of tires hug to a road, or decrease the friction, making her as slippery as an eel
.

Beneath the silk of her dress shirt, Viviana's scales smoothed, The Lamia spun in an anticlockwise direction, yanking her arm away from Jurie's grasp. The sound of ripping fabric brought a small frown to her features. She had been quite fond of that dress shirt.

Jurie would find herself with a tight grip on nothing more than Viviana's left sleeve. While Viviana would be standing sleeveless about five feet away from her.

The Lamia didn't have much time to joke about her future career as an escape artist, Jurie's spirtual powers seemed to go beyond just forming weapons. They apparently had regenerative properties too, and that wasn't all.

Steam billowed out concealing the both of them and Viviana managed a faint chuckle. Her tongue darted out across her lips as she let her natural predator instincts take over.

Quote:
Heat vision; Like a python or rattle snake, Viviana has tiny infra red like sensors which allow her to detect heat. These sensors are as tiny as the pores on a person’s skin and invisible to the naked eye, they run along the ridge of Vivi's brows, her cheek bones and down the bridge of her nose. As long as a creature generates any amount of heat, Viviana can pinpoint their location, even with her eyes closed. This ability functions just like a python’s or rattle snakes in that heat waves in the air are fed through the infra red receptors to give Viviana the location of her prey. Its range is close (5-10 feet), however it works on a full circle (360 degrees) angle. A person standing behind the Lamia (in close proximity) will still generate heat and therefore the sensors will locate their presence.

Eyes are so overrated.

"Mademoiselle" Viviana said, "I do believe the crowd paid to see a show, don't you think we should let them see one?"

Viviana stepped back slowly through the fog, the soles of her calvary boots barely making a whisper upon the wooden boards of the platform. The crowd booed and jeered a little, seeing as the fighters were both suddenly obscured from their view, but it was Viviana's intention to move out of the fog completely. Thankfully a human gave off large quantities of body heat consistently. Her infrared sensors allowed her to be perfectly attuned with Jurie's movements, despite the billowing clouds of steam about them.

"Troublesome..." She muttered to herself silently as the steam slowly cleared, finding nothing but a sleeve grasped tightly between her fingertips. She took this time to wrap her bloodied hand up with the cloth to slow the flow of blood seeping out, hoping that the two wrappings were enough to keep her stable for the remainder of the fight. She whispered a prayer to the spirits in her mind as she carried on, the mist all but evaporating as she took the staff up once more, her eyes showing determination though the haze.

"Well done, Miss Viviana." She started, her tone still bright as a short smile pursed across her lips. She tried not to show the relief dropping off her shoulders, as Jurie herself was blind in the fog, despite it being of her make. "I underestimated you! Slipping out of my grasp so easily."

Her eyes poured over the crowd for a moment, catching on the beach waxer for only a moment as she granted him a sweet smile of appreciation. Though a puzzling question raked through his statement... She decided to dismiss it for now as she pressed forth to her opponent in a light stroll to close the gap. "Though one might be blind to the action, the intensity is what matters. Come, keep the pace if you can."

A wry grin stretched across her features as she balanced herself back out to swiftly shuffle the last few steps forward. She intentionally telegraphed the weight from her back ((left)) hand to came sweeping forward for a swipe at Viviana's ribs, threatening to crack a bone or two with feinted power behind the blow. If successful, the blacksmith would carry through to her true strike or, depending on how the lamia adjusted, would use the reserve of power in her right to take a different measure of swing. Regardless, all of this depended on Viviana's reaction and how things played out from there.

The crowd would roar in appreciation of the fight being rekindled, a few too many gazes shifting over to the torn fringes of both fighter's clothes. This spurred all sorts of softly spoken questions of other sorts of competitions the women could compete in, most of which levied far too much on GRAPPLE sponsored mud wrestling.

Viviana moved with the grace and poise of a dancer. She had used the sabre for over 400 years, and her expertise with the weapon, the simple fluid motion with which she made each block, parry and attack was something beautiful to behold.

"If you wish to pick up the pace, Mademoiselle Jurie. My cousin is the Black Mamba. I am only too 'appy to comply." Came the silver-haired womans reply. Her sultry accent slipping like syrup from between her lips. "Let us dance then, I will 'old no quarter."

As Jurie swung her staff in towards Viviana's ribs, the Lamia would bring her sabre to meet it, forcing the blow off course. Her right foot would cross infront of her left as she did so, neatly moving herself out of Jurie's direct path. Her left hand moving to chamber once more at her side with the stiletto, a classic position for any two weapon fighter, it would allow her the versatility of bringing the ebony blade foward in either an attack or a block at a moments notice.

And then she'd do something that was truly, a bit more in her nature than sword fighting.

Quote:
Venom Spatter; Besides producing her paralytic venom Viviana’s venom glands also secrete a corrosive acidic substance. Like several members of the cobra family, Viviana can project a stream of this substance from her fangs. The acid is strong enough to eat through tempered steel 1 inch thick in a matter of seconds. Her body stores enough to expel three streams up to a distance of 2.4 meters (8 ft), however it takes her glands 48 hours to replenish her supply once all three streams are expended.

With a hiss Viviana's lips curled back into a snarl, two archs of venom sprayed out from the wicked, curved fangs which sat where her canines should have. The highly corrosive substance seemed to steam and sizzle as it flew through the air, a clear indication of how dangerous it was to material substances. The Lamia aimed the jettisons of venom to land along Jurie's outstretched arms and her staff.

As the sabre came swinging in Jurie's blow shifted, her right coming forward as the left brought the staff up and back, catching only a glancing snip from the weapon as it swung by. She used the feint's power to pull a swing towards her opponent's skull, snapping the staff towards Viviana's left temple with a simple grace in an attempt to press her advantage. Furthermore she'd add a little boost in attempt to give the swing a little more swing and power.

Winds of Battle
This ability amplifies physical abilities via spirit energy by twice their normal potential.

Twice as fast, twice as hard. And with the energy bounding around the staff it was going to hurt pretty damn bad.

Something would interject though, the acidic spit. Jurie, despite noticing the sizzle, would continue through with her strike, aiming to take the lamia down a few notches as she spat out her venom. The result would cause a coat of acid to come crackling down the staff and the guard of her right hand, a few splotches raining small droplets on her leather sleeves which would soon eat small holes into her garbs and leave tiny splotches sizzling against her skin.

A few droplets would be flung in motion with the strike as well, sending some of the spatter towards her opponent's right towards the sabre and outstretched arm as well as some of the lamia's shoulder. Would it effect either? She couldn't say. All the blacksmith knew now was the burn tingling across her body and her staff cracking apart from the venom tearing it apart.

"Aghh!" She yelped out in surpise as she shuttled herself back, tearing off the right gauntlet before working on yanking off her top. Leather wasn't easy to tear, after all, and Jurie didn't exactly have the room for prudence in the matter.

The staff dropped, the gauntlet dropped, the top dropped, revealing a rather well-toned body complete with a gracious set of curves. A tidy white wrapping clung to her breasts, keeping them from bounding around as she moved and, at the very least, the wrappings were saving her from the indecency of a rather embarrassing exposure. A light blush worked across her cheeks as she shuffled back and away from her opponent, watching as the mound of her clothing and weaponry sizzled through the wooden boards and began working its way into the concrete below.

Pics were taken. Fandom be had!

She wiped up the last few droplets from her skin with the gauntlet on her left, saving herself from any further burns from the messy substance. Her eyes darted in towards her opponent, and assuming she didn't approach the blacksmith would wind the gauntlet up and send a curve ball straight into the lamia's torso, hoping that the blow would slow her opponent down enough for her to finish gathering herself back up from the previous attack.

Jurie was very quick. Viviana assumed that the blacksmith must have the sort of pretenatural senses and reflexes that she herself possesed. At least that was the thought of the Lamia as the Staff crashed against the side of her skull with a heavy thwack.
The wonderful thing about the Lamia's venom however, was that it immediately began eating through whatever it came into contact with. There was no residual splash back to damage Viviana's sabre and shoulder, as the venom had already hit Jurie's staff and arms and began merrily sizzling its way through both. The blow from Jurie's staff was fierce enough on its own, however, to warrant a starteled and very pained cry from the French-woman. There was another nasty crunch, and then it became apparent that the blow had spilt the skin. Blood began to course down the left side of the Lamia's face. Gathering in her eye and even blurring her vision.

Still, Viviana never relied on her eyes.

That time spent standing still would be her opponents undoing. She had warned Jurie that she was cousin to the Black Mamba...

Quote:
Swift strike; Viviana can close a distance of between 5 and 20 feet with amazing speed. Like the lunge of a snake. She usually uses this short distance charge attack in conjunction with her bite attack or her Gorgon’s grasp.

Like lightning Viviana closed the distance between her and Jurie before the poor woman had even really had the chance to unbuckle her leathers. Her sabre and stiletto were discarded as she shot out like a bullet towards Jurie, both hands posed to grab a hold of any piece of flesh they could get their hands on, although the left hand was making a bee-line for Jurie's right shoulder, while the right wanted to grab a firm hold of her upper left arm.

In the Lamia's mind, preternatural reflexes or not, the Blacksmith was preoccupied and no doubt wouldn't see her adversary until she was already on top of her. It was Viviana's full intention to initiate a grapple and bowl Jurie to the wooden floor beneath them.

Aww... No snapshots for the fans.

Oh well! Jurie wrenches the gauntlet off and begins working her way on the leathers when... BAM!!! The two would go flying back. But a few things happened first. Jurie wasn't just paying all her mind to stripping after all, she was still conscious of her opponent as she was shuttling herself backwards, the only given moment her eyes would've been averted being the moment her garbs would've been torn overhead. And since the lamia prepped herself for the disappearing act with her strange technique that next step never really came to fruition. Instead her body lowered a bit as Viviana came in, her hands tearing the gauntlet away and flinging it to the ground as the bodies impacted together, nixing the movements to unclasp the leather garbs. It was during this moment that Viviana's hands would clench down over their respective destinations, her right shoulder and upper-left arm. But that wasn't all...

Jurie would swipe her arms up to hook under both pits of Viviana's arms, both hands taking a loose grip against the back of the lamia's shoulders as she let out a surprised yelp, her eyes going wide. She'd been tackled enough to know how to react though, to know what to do in situations such as these, and her body would comply in those passing moments like a practiced motion.

Her weight shifted down as Viviana pushed forward to ground the blacksmith. Jurie's body couldn't react at first, her upper-body slipping back as the creature pushed to ground her. Soon, however, her back would arch to the ground and she'd allow the lamia to carry her weight through. However, at the last moment before her feet could leave the ground, the blacksmith would shift her weight further back, pushing up against the pits of Viviana's arms as she attempted to fling her overhead and to the opposing side of the arena.

If successful, Vivi's speed would aid the throw, giving Jurie enough momentum to shake the woman off her grip. If not... well things wouldn't end so well.

It was too bad there wasn't any time for words, or time to get her sleeve off. By the time the would-be throw ended the acid would begin eating away at her right arm, leaving it limp and useless as it worked its way to the bone.

Painful, unbearably so! Were she not capable of withstanding twice the pain she normally could, the blacksmith might've passed out by now. She'd make a mental note, through the searing throb dribbled about her arm, not to lift up on that ability of hers until the round was over.

Viviana had intended to time her attack for when her opponent was most vulnerable, however something about the Lamia's demeanour must have given something away, perhaps Jurie had seen her previous match and was aware that the Lamia possessed such supernatural speeds.

It was no matter, the Lamia only needed to get a grip upon her opponent and Jurie unknowingly played right into her hands. Quite literally.

It was during this moment that Viviana's hands would clench down over their respective destinations, her right shoulder and upper-left arm.

Quote:

Gorgon Grasp; When Viviana makes a physical touch attack with more than one limb she can encase the person in stone (Limestone of a thickness of 3 inches) for a short period of time (Length of 1 post). Depending on the fortitude of her opponent, this can either outright immobilize them, or slow them (to something akin to half their usual movement speed. Point is, you're in stone, its heavy and cumbersome). If she manages to deal severe damage to the stone statue, such as cracking it, or breaking off part of it, this damage is sustained to the persons flesh after the stone casing disappears. (This does not mean that they lose a limb for example, just that the amount of physical damage sustained to the limb would be comparable to the amount of damage inflicted upon the stone. So if she happens to break a stone arm off, that does not mean her opponent loses a limb, but rather the bone of their arm would have suffered a break)

The limestone spread out from the place where the Lamia's fingertips touched, just as Jurie's hands were moving up to grab a hold of Viviana's shoulders. Exactly how her Gorgon grasp ability would affect the Blacksmith Viviana was uncertain. She'd turned many a lesser man to stone with her touch before, but some had the fortitude and presence of mind to continue to move through it. Regardless, Jurie would not be throwing Viviana over her shoulder with the total force she had intended.

Quote:
Serpents grace; Like a serpent, Viviana can twist and turn her body in almost any way imaginable. Because she moves her muscles using the same undulatory locomotion as a snake, unlike a normal human’s anatomy, Viviana’s skeleton is made up of hundreds of tiny vertebrae and riblike bones which in turn are connected to hundreds of intricate sets of muscles.
Just like a snakes, these bones are not rigid, but flexible and can easily dislocate to allow Viviana to move her body as desired. This dislocation is not the same as when a human dislocates their knee, but more of relocation just like a rock python can dislocate its jaws wide enough to swallow an antelope without actually harming itself, this same principle applies to Viviana’s manoeuvring of her body.
Although her skin usually appears flawless porcelain, it is in fact made of hundreds of tiny ventral scales, just like that of her reptilian brethren. These scales are harder than a snakes scales, however they give Viviana control over how her scales (skin) grips onto its surroundings, she can either elevate the amount of friction they produce, allowing her to hug to a surface the way the tread of tires hug to a road, or decrease the friction, making her as slippery as an eel. The combination of her scales and skeletal and muscular system gives Viviana unrivalled agility and manoeuvrability.

What unfolded was like watching some gruesome gymnastics act. The scales on the surface of Viviana's palms adhered to their position upon the surface of Jurie's arm and shoulder, and Viviana used her opponent as if she were a gymnastics vault. As naturally as if it were breathing, Viviana's muscles and bones contorted and dislocated in just the right way to account for her speed upon landing. To the audience it would appear as if the Lamia had just executed a perfect overhead flip, the truth of the matter was that several of the small bones in her shoulders had broken as she initiated the flip and several more within her ankles had suffered a simillar fate as she landed in a low crouch behind her opponent, her left hand sliding out across the wooden platform to lend her some support.

She may not have cried out, but those watching at home or at a close enough vantage point could clearly see the pain etched across her face. The sweat beading upon her brow, the strands of blood soaked hair clinging to her cheek, a dramatic juxtaposition to the determined grimace and labored breathing of the petite French-woman.

Viviana did not make her next move yet, she took a moment to watch and wait and see how Jurie had fared her Gorgon's grasp.

What could she do? It was impossible to stand up to Viviana's abilities. After all, she was partially encased in stone, had her arm and weapons eaten apart by acid, the grapples she made couldn't stick because her opponent could slip out of them on a whim, and on top of all this, the lamia was simply stronger and faster due to natural aspects of her existence.

What could she honestly do against that? How could she possibly counter any of these abilities when she's already pulled out all the stops? So when you think about it... there was only one thing she really could do, something so incredibly simple that it was funny how she didn't see it sooner.

Nothing.

There was nothing Jurie could do to fend against the enemy who was stronger, faster, and simply more powerful, nothing she could do as stone wrapped around her, despite her best efforts to fend it off. Nothing she could do as acid tore through flesh and bone on its way up through her arm. Nothing she could do at all.

So she'd hit the ground, the lamia standing over her, and despite her arms being pinned down by acid, stone, pain and her opponent. And since she'd tried to throw the enemy, in vain, she couldn't even lean back to give the lamia a good kick in some oblique area of her body.

Welp, as it stands, Jurie was ********. With the acid rolling up her arm she was going to die soon anyways. She'd work up some effort to fight back if she wasn't suffering from several sources of shock. So really...

The lamia had all the time in the world to do whatever the hell she wanted as she watched her opponent get eaten alive by the acid.

[JUDGIN REQUESTED.

So.

It is kinda funny how the acid burns things at variable speeds, but I'm letting that slide. However, there's two things that are clearly standing out.

1. "With the acid rolling up her arm she was going to die soon anyways. "

Up. While laying on your back. Yeah, no. Physics says no, and if you'll read the ability carefully enough, you'll notice it's nowhere near as strong as it's made out to be. I have no idea how the stone interacts with the acid, but let's assume it took some away because of contact.

So much acid can only burn so much. Maybe some burning left over, but by now, it should have been over and done with considerable acid damage to the affected limb. Which is now covered in stone.

2. "So she'd hit the ground, the lamia standing over her."

versus

"she landed in a low crouch behind her opponent, her left hand sliding out across the wooden platform to lend her some support."

And judging by the video, that's a pretty good distance away she got, skidding to a halt. She's not standing over Jurie, she's a good few feet away trying to process "ow" and "stop moving" while observing. And, logically, the only way to reconcile the stated damage with the percieved damage is: Jurie is hysterical from pain/fear/shock, breathing on the ground and panicking about dying and such.

Doesn't mean she's only slightly burned, or that she's not at risk of dying if she overexerts herself, but damage is overstated.]

Viviana may not have had the heart of young Jurie. But she was not heartless. And she was not blind either. It seemed that even without her Gorgon's grasp, the Blacksmith may not have been moving for much longer.

The Lamia pushed herself up with a grunt and snapped her head towards the sidelines.

"Medics." Her voice boomed out. "Now."

She made her way back towards the fallen young woman, there was no smirk upon her face, no smug look of victory. Rather there was some genuine concern in her eyes.

"The 'ealers will be 'ere before you know it." She said in what she hoped was a comforting voice. Although how a woman with a face smeared with blood can look comforting she was not entirely sure.

"Ces tournois." She muttered to herself with a tch, "Pleine de monstres et les suicidaires."

The Lamia would wait until Jurie was escorted safely out of the ring before she gathered up her sabre and stiletto and limped along after them.

((Just to reaffirm the prior post, we discussed the end over IMS and figured this was the best course of action.

The fight was fun and hoped the readers enjoyed it, despite my fit at the end.

Best of luck down the road Eli!))
