Less Slice-of-life and less typical in terms of high schools, I got the DVDs for Girls und Panzer, both the regular series and the OVA.

The anime has as its main character a 2nd-year named Miho who transfers to Oarai Academy. Why? Well, see, there's this sport that she's trying to get away from participating in. It involves tanks. Yes, those vehicles that have typically been used in wars and stuff. They're outfitted with devices to make them display a white flag and stop running when they've taken enough damage, and the point is not to kill the opponent, but to either induce this in all tanks or, in a tournament, to do so to the flag tank (which, much like chess, can involve doing so to the rest of the tanks). This is not to say that it's been made completely safe; this fact is even a plot point, and hey, they carry extinguishers on board for a reason.

This sport hasn't been practiced by Oarai in 20 years... but wouldn't you know, the year Miho transfers, they start it up again and play it up big time. And, of course, as the daughter of a prestigious Tankery (Sensha-do) headmistress, and as a former Tank Commander in her own right, Miho is pressured to join. There, she and her new friends meet a number of Tankery students with interesting personalities.

The regular series follows her as they work their way up to the tournament finals.

In the OVAs:

* The girls (Teams Anglerfish, Rabbit, Hippo, Duck, and Turtle; this is set before the addition of Teams Mallard, Leopon, and Anteater) shop for swimsuits and go to the beach.
* The girls go camping, and wear their swimsuits for most of the experience.
* The girls (just Team Anglerfish) explore an aspect of the setting that's kind of a big reveal at the end of the first episode, such that the OP is deferred to the end so it doesn't spoil it. Suffice to say that this is very much not the typical school setup.
* The full version of the Anglerfish Dance, seen in part in an early episode, involving wearing a skintight outfit and doing a dance that is considered quite embarrassing. Teams Anglerfish, Turtle, Duck, Hippo, Rabbit, and Mallard are involved.
* During the Pravda battle, Yukari and "Erwin" are sent scouting. In the main episode where this happens, we don't get to see what happens along the way. In this OVA, we do.
* A banquet is held celebrating the result of the tournament, and a talent competition is initiated. Who will win, indeed...

I've also preordered the first two volumes of manga, which are set to ship July 3rd and September 23rd. I'm led to understand that they have a different main character.

Also on September 23rd, I'm expecting the 6th volume of GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class.

More relevant to the guild's name, I learned, probably long after it happened, that Bandai Entertainment has closed, leaving North America with no official source for volumes 9 and 10 of Lucky Star. sad Maybe some company will rescue it from this, but considering Ichigo Mashimaro is also behind by two volumes and Hitohira is behind by four, I'm not holding out much hope.
