Well, ladies and gentlemen... it look like I am on my way to Japan. By Wednesday I will know if I am going or not. Applications to stay with a host family and going to language school are in. My flight is on hold. Please cross your finger, dance a hoorah, pray to Mary, do a rain dance... whatever your superstition or faith is... do it! Haha I'm half playing. Here to hoping!

ARC Academy. They have a short-term (but intensive) language course. 4 week/ 5 days a week.

All the paperwork is in, and my flight is purchased. I don't know exactly what city I am staying in or if I am going to be able to attend school. But either way, I will be residing in Japan for 7 weeks. YEAH!

It's gonna be a hell of a time. Soak it all in and try to learn as much as you can and stay out of your room and familiar spaces as much as possible. Go out and explore a lot and don't be afraid to ask people for help! Japan is a very convenient country with many kind and helpful people. I hope you have a safe and wonderful trip! Be sure to post back and tell us how it goes and what you're discovering. As well as new vocabulary wink

Update: Classes may not happen. Because I have not had 100- 150 hours of instructions. I do have learning disabilities, and I don't think they understand too well. So if not I have a lot more time to play and with the language program I am in now (via Skype) I will just take more classes a week.
The criteria: 1. Hiragana and Katakana by heart. (I do not.) 2. Know the 80 basic verbs by heart. (I don't think I do.) 3. Can't remember, but it was something else with verbs.
Maybe i can find a job there, just sweeping or something. I want to go and nothing is going to stop me from going. Still I have the feeling maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Sad panda.

I'm sorry to hear that, Sailor! You'll pick up a whole lot while you're there, though, regardless. Especially if you can land a job and make some friends to talk with, at least as long as they're not that interested in practicing their English. That's the catch; trying to find people who are interested in helping you practice your Japanese, NOT in practicing their own English.
Those requirements are kind of weird, though. I've never heard of such a thing. But you know, I bet there are other language schools available where you are going. I mean like local private schools. You might ask around when you get there to see.

That is what I hope too, that there is another class in another school close-by where I meet the requirements. I already informed my language program now, so hopefully they can help me prepare.

So still I have not gotten a final answer if I can take my course or not. They keep adding things, and all I want to do is cry. So here is what I have to know by heart or totally from memory:
*Can read and write all Hiragana and Katakana *You need to know basic verbs *You need to understand and can use past form (Verbs) *You need to understand and can use basic adjectives
If anyone has any suggestions or cheat-sheets that would be awesome. I am trying as hard as I can. I have a feeling this just wasn't meant to be.

Well friends... I have been here a night and a day. It's 10:30ish PM, as not i have the connection to the internet. For the most part I think I am going to enjoy it, but something beyond jetlag is making me uncomfortable. So I figured out how to get to the station, and of course in Japanese fashion there is a mall underneath the station. It's a 10 minute walk from the house I am staying at. There is anothe student here... he cute... could be trouble. In some ways it's nice. I think he's from Europe somewhere, but also speaks English well, at least I am not totally cut off. POST QUESTIONS?
