xXHopless RomanceXx PoisonXLilly I prefer to mention that The Last Airbender movie as Avatar: The Last Airbender, because, quite simply, that movie with the little blue avatar people was just....horrible. Seriously, WHY a fancy CGI remake of Pohcahauntis? (horrible spelling is horrible, but you get the idea) .....SERIOUSLY!!!! So, anyway, my point being: Avatar: The Last Airbender movie. mrgreen ninja Avatar is one of those movie that you really have to see before you judge it. Because other than the basic premise, those two have nothing in common. I'll probably get roped into seeing ATLA, despite the fact that I'm not sure if I want to or not. M.Night has a history of making twist endings that make no sense and I have a feeling this one won't be safe from it. I've already read the little tiny movie book version for the movie. Trust me, they f*ked it up big time. scream

Aang's meeting at the south pole with Katara and all them is all serious, including when they get back to where Katara lives. In the begining, Katara and Sokka don't even fight. 2. THEY FREAKING MESSED UP THE PART WHERE AANG SEES THE PART-AVATAR STATUES! Okay, so he randomly blurts out that he knew this other airtemple and at first I was like "Their gonna see the people with the flying machines, right?". Wrong. Okay, so there's the other air temple with no people. Aang sees the statues and this guy comes up and explains them a bit and goes "Your a nice guy, but you made me poor. I'm gonna capture you and sell you to the firenation." 3. In the commercial, you see the part with the big huge wave hitting the side of the ship and the side stuff flips over onto the deck and you thought it was gonna be the part where Aang frees himselfe the first time for Zuko, right? Nope. They barely fight at all in that scene. There is no huge tipping of the ice on the boat. Just a little airbending tussle with the firenation souldiers and then Katara comes and pickes them up with Appa. 4. Okay, so Aang ran away because of the whole fight with the other Airbending monks because Aang's mentor was taking his time with the training, and the other monks were taking away his time with him, right? In the movie, it's "They said I couldn't have a family and I couldn't fall in love with anyone cause I had to stay focused on my training." That's what really pissed me off right there. I think that was just an excuse to get Aang and Katara together in the movie. There was more, but I can't remember. They did have Iroh's personality down just fine, and there was mention of Zuko's sisters. They got Zuko's banishment down okay, too. Momo's even mentioned, but he doesn't do much..... And the trip to the North pole is really short. =/ It was condensed within a few short pages, just saying they had a few stops along the way, giving hope to people. Oh, and somewhere, Katara looses her necklase, but we only finally hear about it when Aang brings it up by suddenly having it and saying "Here, I found this" =/ Everyone acts all serious. Aang isn't funny. There isn't a lot of sibling bickering between Katara and Sokka. Sokka is more of a hidden genious who comes up with plans every now and then. They never crack a joke..... -.-"

@ Lilly
That ain't right. That just ain't right. Glad I'm spending my money to go see Toy Story 3. Really though, not a single joke from Sokka? No lulz from the meat and sarcasm to veggies and straight-talk and back to the meat and sarcasm guy? None? Oh what has this world come to?

Paprika Muffin D: But it's not Avatar without teh lulz. DX Well, think of it this way, it is an adaption for the big screen. usually things tend to go a bit more serious on the big screen. And since in essence, ATLA is really kind of one of those epics, they're going to have to focus more on that element for reason of time constraint and keeping the audiences attention on the main plot, andthey'll have to keep it consistent.
Not to say I don't think there will be humor in the movie, I've seen a little more of Jackson in the clips and he does seem to have a bit of a humorous quality to him. I'm by no means telling you that it'll be full-blown like in the cartoon, but...like Zuko's scar, certain things had to be toned down a little.
And I'm expecting the huge wave sequence to of course be part of the finale when Aang goes mental on everyone who's labeled "FIRE NATION MINION".
The answer to the Avatar statue part, or at least my opinion on it is that, while the the scientist and his band of hang-gliders is awesome for the show and for one episode, it would really take up too much time to go through that subplot just to show where the war balloons come from. Again, this is in the context of a movie. Time is a major issue. Some dude capturing aang(or at least trying to, I dunno what happens) goes along a thematic grain for the show, even though it didn't actually happen, but it gives a quickprogression from one point to the other(is he maybe how Aang gets handed over to Zhao before Zuko breaks him out as the blue spirit?)
As for point number four...well, Aang went against Yang-Chen herself and her advice to put his personal needs aside for the good of the world, so I won't be in the LEAST bit surprised if they brought this point up just to defy it in the end. And I think Aang and Katara are gonna end up together anyway, as much I dislike the pairing. (Though, Lily, may I enquire as to your shipping preference? biggrin )
I haven't read the book so if there are any inconsistencies here that might be me not understanding, lol. I have however read the comic prequel all about Zuko, and if that is anything to go by, then YES. Zuko and Iroh are in the bag, and that's super important to me as it's my favorite thread of the story.
Though how the necklace thing is handled doesn't please me. :c That might be a sign that it's just not in the movie at all, because I believe they'd put more into that.
I just wonder things like who wrote the book, do they know the original source, how close is the book to the movie(because I think that even the novelizations probably do have differences from the movie they're based on. If the last movie novelization I read hadn't been Pokemon: The First Movie when I was 11, I could probably make a better guess.)
Me, I'm going to see the movie and judge it for myself. I'm excited and I'm being optimistic. and at the very least and if everything else goes south, I can at least bask in Zuko and Iroh's story.

@Toad: Oh, yes, of course. I know they cut out a lot of stuff due to time contraints, but I just wish they had the Avatar statues in it's proper place. : ( As for shipping preferance: I don't really 'do' shippings. I mean, I do hate the HarryXGinny thing and wish J.K. Rowling went with Hermione for Harry, but that's just about the only thing I really ship as far as fiction goes. =/ Most of my shippings I do 'for teh lawls' (for talking about! I don't write n00bish fanfics. >.<) or for writing series/funny fanfiction.

Hey, all I'm saying is that this novelization thing might not be word for word what the movie is. I've seen clips of Sokka, and I have seen him being silly and excited.
And as much as I love King Bumi, there might just not be enough time for him. There's not going to be enough time to put every awesome character in!
Though I'm absolutely sure that Toph will be there in the next movie, I mean, why WOULDN'T Toph be in the movie.
