PROLOGUE:

"They're perfectly healthy, would you like to see them before they leave?" A nurse with long strawberry blonde hair asked her patient, a woman who had just gotten out of labor.
"No..." the mother sighed, gritted her teeth, "Just give me my check."
The nurse hesitated before nodding and leaving the room.
Two twin boys, never to be held in their mother's arms. Two innocent lives in exchange for some pocket money....it seemed so cruel. But the nurse couldn't go against orders, she knew where the boys were headed and she didn't want to accompany them. Her job was to write checks and ensure the safety of the merchandise.
Her heart still ached as she lay the babies in their carriers. This was the last chance they'd get to see the real world, and they didn't even know it. She swallowed back the lump in her throat and grabbed her pen, refusing to watch the men carry away their helpless souls.

Kye awoke once more when Kyo sat up, relieving the weight on his brother's chest.
"What's wrong?" Kye immediately asked, sitting up and crossing his legs, Indian style.
"Nothing...I just woke up."
"Oh..Did you sleep well?" Kye asked, hope in his voice.
"The same as ever..." Kyo said with a yawn.
"Is anyone else awake?"
"I don't know, if they are, their not thinking anything." Kyo answered, turning to face his brother.
"Is that possible? For your mind to just be blank- I mean, I never stop thinking about something."
"Who knows...probably, there are a lot of weird people living here." Kyo said.
Kye looked away, feeling a sharp tang of pain in his chest.
"It makes you sad, doesn't it? This place....it's so..depressing. You don't like the weird people here or even being here." Kyo spoke softly and without emotion.
Kye hesitated before nodding, "Yea..."
"Don't worry. Things will get better." Kyo reassured Kye before falling back to lay against him, "I'm still a little tired, let's rest as much as possible. We'll wake up again when someone else wakes up too."
Kye nodded, unable to keep himself from a small smile.

"She didn't come back.." Kye spoke softly as he sat up.
Kyo lay beside him, still half asleep and didn't reply.
"What if...."
"Don't think things like that, it's bad for you." Kyo interrupted Kye's thought.
"But...it's true." Kye looked his brother in the eyes, his milky irises were pretty much all her could see in the darkness.
"I know...but, you have to try to think on the bright side, right?"
"I guess," Kye replied, not completely believing the words himself.
They both nearly jumped out of their skins when the hole in the wall suddenly opened, shedding a white light across the metalic floor. Kye stared into the light with hope while Kyo flinched, looking away from the blinding white.
"Is it her?" He asked, turning his head enough to see Kye in the corner of his vision.
Kye sighed and shook his head.
"Just more guards?" Kyo knew the answer before his brother nodded once more.
"They came to get someone..." Kyo trailed off, looking around at the large cages that filled the cold metal room. The light didn't expose every corner, it didn't chase away every shadow, and that's waht scared him. If he and Kye were near the front, in the light, what lingered in the infinate darkness?
"Kyo..Kyo!" Kye turned and shook his brother's shoulder.
"What?" Kyo turned around, and was faced with three guards walking towards their cage. He hated the men that guarded scientists from the experiments, they were always cold and expressionless. They always jumped to conclusions and resorted to violence. Very few faught against them in fear of getting seriously injured.
"Who are they here for?"
"Me," Kyo answered his brother without hesitation.
"Just you?"
"Yea..." There was a hint of worry in Kyo's voice as he spoke.
"But we always go together." Kye objected, looking from the aproaching guards to his brother.
"I know..." Kyo looked away sadly.
"What...what's wrong?" Kye leaned closer, trying to look his brother in the face.
"Don't let them..." Kyo whispered, hiding his face in his hands.
"What?" Kye asked, confused.
"Don't let them take me, Kye please..." Kyo's voice quavered as he crumpled into a ball on the floor.
"What's wrong!?" Kye asked desperately, trying to get his brother to sit up.
His reply was a loud clang as one of the guards hit the metal bars with his wooden stick, "Let's go, you're up for surgery," He said impatiently.
"Please, don't make me..." Kyo's voice shook with terror and tears streamed down his cheeks.
"What are they going to do?" Kye asked as he wraped his arms around Kyo.
"Their...their going to hurt me.." Kyo looked up at Kye, feeling helpless in his arms, "Don't let them hurt me!"
Another loud clank rang in their ears, "Hurry it! We're on a time schedule!"
Kye looked back at the guards, he didn't know what to do. He didn't want them to get angry, they were scary already. But what if they were going to hurt Kyo? He couldn't let that happen.
"Come one, Don't make us drag you out!" The guard said with a snarl as he opened their cage.
"Kyo, their-"
"Don't let them take me!" Kyo interrupted, gripping his brother's shirt. He had never felt so scared, so cornered in his life.
"What are they going to do?" Kye asked, looking in horror from the guards to the scientist that waited at the source of the light.
"We aren't going to do anything, it's just a simple check-up." The guard spoke as he loomed over them.

Kye sat in the darkness, alone. He held his against his chest and waited. He had been with Kyo for so long that he didn't know what it was like to be alone. He found it terrifying. He could barely see through the black that surrounded him and without Kyo right beside him, he felt exposed- vulnerable. He gritted his teeth and tried not to cry. He didn't want to cry and worry. He's coming back, it's only a check up. He repeated in his head over and over until several hours later, Kyo returned.
