It was a calm, blue ocean. The moon was full and shining brightly. The ground was blanketed with the snow that had fallen that October morning. A lone wolf cried one slow, mournful cry from the pine woods on the left. The single flower was still there. A rose that had blackened, but still lived, pushed out of the snow. The stem was still green, and it was still upright, but the petals had turned a dead, black color. The moon shone from behind the rose, silhouetting it. A girl stood in front of the rose, and mourned for her friend. She remembered the time they had met, in this very spot, this very day, three years ago.
The sun was just setting, turning the sky red. The first star of the night was showing, and that was why the girl had come. She saw the other girl waiting for something a little closer to the pine forest. She went over to her to talk.
“Hi, what are you doing?” The girl asked.
“Hey. Not much, just waiting for the moon to come up. You?”
“Watching the first star appear. It’s always so red. Oh, I’m sorry, what’s your name?” There was a pause.
“You can just call me…BlackRose. I’ll call you…RedStar.”
“I get the RedStar, but why BlackRose?”
“There’s a legend that two great people will meet and start the adventure that will only ever come once in this spot, and when they meet, a rose will grow in two weeks. When one dies, the rose will turn black, but not die. When the both die, red roses will grow all around the world at an unstoppable rate, and they will never die or wilt, even without light or water. And the one black rose will always stay the same, never changing, not even blowing in the wind.” BlackRose had said. And now it had come true. The rose had grown, and turned black when she died. Now RedStar was wondering why it had all happened, and what BlackRose would have said in this situation.
But she knew even she would have nothing to say in this situation. Even she would have fallen down and cried. And even she would have whished it was her instead of her one, and only, real friend. And she didn’t even know her real name.

. . .
BlackRose remembered her. She had seen the girl dozens of times at this time of day, always looking at the sky, wile BlackRose waited for the moon to come up. She was wearing her usual outfit for a full moon night; long sleeved black shirt and black jeans. The other girl was wearing some red colored outfit. BlackRose decided to take a nap wile she was waiting for the moon. Then the other girl came over to her.
“Hi, what are you doing?” She asked. BlackRose looked her over. She was pretty, copper hair, like her own, and greenish eyes. She looked a little thinner than she did, but that just added on to her cuteness. BlackRose remembered the huge dinner she just ate, and sucked in her stomach a little.
“Hey. Not much, just waiting for the moon to come up. You?”
“Watching the first star appear. It’s always so red. Oh, I’m sorry, what’s your name?” So that’s what she was doing!
BlackRose didn’t want to give the girl, RedStar she was now calling her, her real name, so she just said, “You can just call me…BlackRose. I’ll call you…RedStar.”
“I get the RedStar, but why BlackRose?”
BlackRose told RedStar her favorite legend. But she never knew that she would have to make the decision of a lifetime in order to keep her friend alive. She never knew that she would have to fulfill the legend, and be the first one to die. The first one to die, and never come back. At least she had gone bravely.
. . .
RedStar remembered her friends death all too well. They were finally fighting Chamber, the being that was controlling them, and turning them to nothing. They were fading away, and this was their last life. Ever. Chamber was killing RedStar, about to finish the final blow, but BlackRose stopped him. She had pushed her out of the way, right as thousands of boulders came down at a deadly speed. When they stopped falling, BlackRose was gone. RedStar had tried to dig her out, but she knew she was gone already. Eventually, she gave up. To Chamber, with tears in her eyes and on her cheeks, head hung low, she said, “You win. You got her, and now you win. I give up. I don’t have anymore left to lose.”
Chamber had nothing to say to this. He looked down at the girl. He finally got what he wanted, shouldn’t he be happy? But she looked so weak and pathetic, like she was dead, too. Like she was dead, but never losing that feeling of actually dying. It was so sad that Chamber leaned over her and asked, “You want to go too?” But it wasn’t a question, it was the truth.
“What would I do with my life if I lived? You killed her, why don’t you kill me, too? Or are you some new form of twisted evil? Are you just going to let me suffer my entire life? Not even the most evil creature in the universe would do that.” But Chamber couldn’t kill her. Instead, he disappeared. Later that day, he killed himself.
But RedStar didn’t. She couldn’t; BlackRose wouldn’t have liked that. She would have said, “You’d be hurting so many people if you do that. If you think about it, suicide is kind of selfish. I get that they’re upset, but they hurt so many more people by killing themselves.”
RedStar argued that if you were in enough pain, you wouldn’t think about that kind of stuff, but BlackRose kept to her opinion. She had been like that a lot.

“What will I do now, BlackRose? What do I do now?” RedStar whispered lightly to the ocean. There was no reply. There never was.
