Hi-dilly-ho Neighborinos! In a pathetic an attempt to give this guild some life, I've taken the liberty of posting the first thread in the Straight forum -- Yaaaayyy!!! *confetti flies everywhere*
Okay, for starters, I'd like to hear from fellow heteros in the guild about things like, what it's like having gay/lesbian/bi/transgendered friends and/or family-members, and how you show love and support for them. heart
I also welcome our friends over the rainbow to share from their point-of-view and your feelings toward your straight family and friends.
Cheers!

I'll start by sharing my thoughts and feelings: If you haven't read my post in the introduction thread, I've basically already stated that I haven't been particularly "close" with many gays/lesbians and the like; I'll admit I've had only one gay friend in my lifetime, and have dated a self-proclaimed bisexual (boy) in high school. However, I don't feel that experience or quantity in whatever context always affects one's feelings/opinions; I may be a bit naive in some fields, but I still respect, admire, and appreciate those who are a little 'different' -- isn't that what we've all learned in kindergarten? "It doesn't matter who's right or wrong, it's trying our best to get along!"
In short, if you're overall a nice person, and not an a*****e, than you're alright, regardless of who/what you are.

I'm not straight persay so its nice to see straight people who dont suck. My family is not accepting whatsoever and i hate being around them because the word "f*****t" always comes up and i end up wanting to punch out all of them. They make me feel inhuman because i'm not straight. My friends on the other hand are all awesome. Most of them are gay and if they arent they're allies. I dont speak to homophobes, well i dont befriend them. I have dropped friends before because they voted against my being able to marry a same sex partner and to me, thats not friendship, thats betrayal. So many of m friends are good people, and i include myself in that. So for people to not accept us i really can just not fathom. Im aware that it happens and will continue to happen but i dont understand it at all.

Most people in my family are straight. So I am the only bi-sexual one. On my dad's side I have a lesbian aunt, whom I'm not allowed to talk to because of her orientation. I agree that it is nice to see straight people who are nice. But many people I know now alienate me beacause I am bi. My friends are all supportive of my choice and some I actually get along with better now. I have dropped some friends because they would not even look at my face the second I told them. Some even muttered that I was immoral and needed to be sent away. I still talk to peole whom don't accept us and I'll still hang out with them, but the second they say something about gays/lesbians being wrong, I do defend myself.

I'm so sorry to hear that, hon! sad I think the least family should do (especially parents --they're the ones who brought you into this world for hell's sake!) is support their kin in such situations, so they don't feel like a freak!
I admit my father can be pretty 'anti-gay' in most respects (actually, he can be a real bigot in general, but sometimes he's gracious/funny about it), but I know he's had a couple gay friends over the years, even though he's overall in favor of "don't-ask-don't-tell". :/
I think the only person in my family that I know 100% is a supporter is my sister, having many gay/lesbian friends -- one of whom is actually a drag-performer~ heart

My mom kinda expects it, I mean my best friend is gay and lately that seems to be the only people I get along with are the gay/lesbian and bi ones. I'll admit, my father is one of the most homophobic people in the world. When he found out my best friend was gay, he wouldn't talk to me for like a week.

Hrmmm I see we've split the straight forum into two categories... In that case feel free to movie this to the female straight forum, or better yet just delete this, and I'll start a new one geared more toward the ladies... Whatever works.

I was just... thinking that straight guy and straight girl conversation is kind of different? Forums need not be exact unless this guild really shoots off.
