Star light, star bright,
Grant my wish tonight?

ENTREE ONE!
I look to the stars, a wishful dream in my eyes. The heavens sparkling in all its glory. I smile lightly, the wind kissing my cheeks, my hands, my hair.. I close my eyes to the midnight sun, momentarily lost in her magic. The grass sways with the breeze as I wander out father into the open fields of unknown. My hands raise, pushing through the night air with elegance and grace. My foot steps become light, choosy about where they land. Flowers brush my ankles as my bare feet carry me farther into the future, under the watchful eye of the spirits in the sky..

I open my eyes to a bright firefly, dancing among the mysteries the heavens are painted with. It's trail blinding me with it's magnificence, and it's wonder. But just like that, it dissapears back into the darkness of the night. It's trail of fire gone from the sky as if it never existed. I wonder why it never left anything to show it had been there, something for someone to remember it by. But my eyes stayed focused on where the star vanished, never really readjusting. My feet carried me along the fields of emerald grass and rolling hills, hot days and cool nights touching my skin. Many travels await me, and many lands I will seek, but my path will forever be set on that shooting star..

Star light, star bright,
Grant my wish tonight?

ENTRY TWO!
PICTURE REFERENCE

The stars glisten as the moon bathes the night in silver light, illuminating the hills with an unmistakable glow. The clouds, once cotton when the sun had risen, shine iridescent like the mid-morning snow. A cool breeze ruffles the emerald sea of grass, coaxing it to dance at the slightest touch. To carry along with it, the wind brings the scent of flowers. Closing you eyes, you imagine flower petals swirling around you, covering you in a white flurry. The soft ocean mist dances with the flowers, kissing your eyelids and making the night around you that much sweeter.

You try and run your fingers through the mysteries of the wind as you dance. You listen, trying to uncover the secrets it whispers in your ear. Once your eyes flutter open, the wind dies away, and the petals float unwillingly to the earth below. Unwilling to let the magic fade, you sink to the soft, silver grass at your feet. It's cool under your careful fingers as you lay back to gaze at the heavens. The stars, expertly placed in the sky shine like diamonds against the black velvet.

You look up, seeing a star fall out of place, its light flickering like a candle. Dropping below its brothers and sisters, the diamond picks up its pace, painting streaks of white, red and orange across the darkened horizon. It dissapears right before it hits the skyline, going out like the candle was blown out. The wind brushes your hair softly, the night carrying away its mysteries. "Star light... Star bright.. Wont you be my friend tonight?"

Star light, star bright,
Grant my wish tonight?

Username: Yuuka Kurokawa
Prompt: 2
Entry: Dark eyes scanned the horizon as a sigh escaped her lips. It was times like these that she was loneliest. In the still coolness of the night. The only company were the stars and moon. Another soft sigh escaped before turning into a startled gasp. On the left side of the horizon had been a shooting star she had noticed out of the corner. Now there were several of them, like little blazes of hope.

Feeling rather foolish, the female concentrated on one and said "Star light, star bright. First star I see tonight.
I wish I may, I wish I might.
Have the wish I wish tonight." She closed her eyes and whispered softly to the night air, "I wish I were someone's princess and that they loved me even with all of my quirks...."

Finished making her wish, she padded over to a patch of leaves and curled up. It was late and now was a good time to go to sleep.

Star light, star bright,
Grant my wish tonight?

Entry:

"Wheeeee!"

I watched my boyfriend, Todd, run through the sand with his arms outstretched, screaming at the night sky. He ran back at me, panting and grinning like an idiot.

"You're grinning like an idiot." I believe in brutal honesty.

He took my hand and tried to take me to the edge of the water. I reluctantly followed.

"Someday, I wanna cure world hunger," Todd said, looking dreamily at the moon. "But first, I need to bring peace to the world. Otherwise, there's nothing to live for."

I should warn you right now that I have low tolerance for stupidity, especially idealistic stupidity. Even going for a moonlit walk on the beach was pushing it for me. But when I saw that shooting star, it was nothing compared to the brightness that was Todd's hope.

I wish all of Todd's stupid wishes would come true, I thought at the star. Of course, that wasn't the only crazy thing I did that night. I also kissed him, right then and there. Nothing like public displays of affection to encourage naïveté.

Anyway, the next morning I woke up groggy and annoyed at my alarm. No surprise there. The surprising thing was everything else in my room. These drooling, fuzzy creatures were making messes of my stuff. My favorite stuffed penguin looked like Freddy Krueger. Dogs.

My eye twitched. It was the pre-scream eye-twitch. "AHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Todd came running in. "Oh hey, there are some in here, too!"

He scooped up the nearest puppy and cuddled it, then caught sight of my expression.

"What the hell is going on here, Todd?"

He shrugged, but didn't look the least bit afraid. I decided I needed to work on either my glare, or him.

"Isn't it great?" he asked, beaming. "This morning I was making your coffee like usual, thinking about random things, when I wished we had 101 puppies like in the movie, and they suddenly appeared!"

I got back into my bed, hoping that when I woke up, it would all be a dream. Of course, it wasn't.

Six months later, we have 101 six month old dogs, in addition to a menagerie of other animals, our own island, and a midget who plays the flute. Of course, we also live in a world where there is no hunger, and Todd has successfully brought peace to the world. And I refuse to go for moonlit walks on the beach.

Star light, star bright,
Grant my wish tonight?

Entry: It wasn't until the moon was directly in front of her that the young girl realized the sun had gone down. Frantically, she looked around, increasingly aware that she was alone, in the darkness, uncomfortably near the edge of a nearly two-hundred foot cliff. I should try to find somewhere to camp for the night. I'll go exploring tomorrow, she thought, a sudden pang of homesickness shooting through her. This place is so...different. I've never seen so many stars! Her head tilted towards the sky, her eyes scanned the glittering blanket of darkness that had descended on her while she was lost in thought. She almost didn't see it - a flicker of movement in the corner of her eye - but her scanning eyes brought her gaze around. A shooting star! she thought in wonder as a soft gasp escaped her lips. Well, it never worked at home, but maybe this new place will have different results... "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I make tonight," she smiled as she recited the old childhood nursery rhyme, her eyes still following the star that was now nearly out of sight. "It's a dark night and I don't feel safe. My wish tonight is for a shelter that will keep me safe through the night." She was almost disappointed when a tent didn't appear out of thin air. It was worth a shot, I suppose, she sighed to herself, turning away from the cliff edge. The moonlight was bright, illuminating the edge of the forest she had wandered through today. I guess I can sleep in a tree, she thought, glancing up and down the treeline in search of...well, anything. Just as she was about to give up and walk straight into the forest the moonlight seemed to shift and a thin path caught the light, cutting through the brush just a few feet from the cliff edge. A quick glance over her shoulder and she started down the path, anxious to see where it led. It was well disguised and difficult to follow, weaving around rocks and trees and sometimes requiring her to either climb over or duck under a low hanging branch. Before long it took a sharp U-turn and began descending. It was only a moment before she realized that she was now following a thin path attached to the cliff face. To her right, a solid wall of earth. To her left, a more than one-hundred foot drop. Carefully placing her feet, she continued on until the path abruptly ended mid-step. Alarmed, she planted her feet firmly on the last step of the path and looked around. She was still very high up. A fall would almost definitely end her life, and she wasn't sure enough of the path to climb back up. So, she looked down; down over the edge of the ended path. To her surprise, there were rocks sticking out of the earth. She hadn't noticed any on the walk down, but below her, they were everywhere. Can I climb down them? I don't think I'm strong enough to climb all the way to the bottom, she worried. Again, as she looked around, the moonlight seemed to shift slightly, and when she looked down again she saw what she had not seen a moment before. Barely ten feet below her was a small ledge, it's thickness matching that of the path she was currently standing on. Alright, I'll climb down to the ledge and see what else I can see from there, she decided, gently sitting at the edge of the path, her feet hanging over the edge as she reached for the first handhold. Hand, hand, foot, foot. Hand, hand, foot, foot. Slowly, she made her way down the ledge, and when she was finally standing on the solid earth, she was shocked to see an opening in the cliff face. It was just a little shorter than she was, but it was deep, and when she walked a few feet inside she was able to stand to her full height. It was dry, and for the most part the floor sloped gently outwards so that water would not pool inside the cave, except for one small dip near the entrance. There was a pile of what looked like leaves, and when she approached it, she found that it was leaves and sweetgrass, and it was piled thick enough to make a comfortable bed. Perhaps someone lives here, she thought, looking around for other signs of life. In the darkest corner of the cave, a sparkle caught her eye. Slowly, she approached it and was delighted to find a small glowing stone. "My star," she whispered, gently scooping the stone up and carrying it to the leaf pile. "Thank you." She placed the stone on the ground next to her pile and lay down, and as she closed her eyes, her mind was full of what she would do tomorrow to make her cave homier, for that was what it was - her home.

*Edit: Oh geeze. That's longer than I thought it was....sorry! But it was fun to write! <3

Star light, star bright,
Grant my wish tonight?

Username: TaLirah
Prompt: 2
Entry:

What's so special
about a shooting star?
Who decided, I wonder
that a blazing ball of meteor
shooting through the sky
was something to wish on?
Perhaps it was a coincidence.
A wish, accidentally made
in the presence of a moving star
that happened to come true.
But why a star?
Why not a single raindrop
that comes without a storm?
Or a bolt of lightning,
a clash of thunder?
What of a candle flame
that goes out when there's no wind?
Or a fleeting glimpse
of a fleeing deer?
Every night the sky
is littered with stars.
Why don't we wish on those?
Must it be in motion
for it to be important?
What's so special
about a shooting star,
and why won't my wishes
come true?
