Talk to your band director about it.

Talk to your band director about how hard you can push them. Be a total p***k. They mess up / goof around, ten push-ups. Each time, Add some more. If they're misbehaving too much, run laps. And keep running. Talk to your director about not letting them leave til they've completed their punishments. They already don't like you, but at least they should start respecting you. ^^

Who is Puffer Fish Vice Captain

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not alone in that. My first year as pit captain, I felt the same way. The position was forced upon me since I was the only returning vet to the section...and now I'm the only one with the experience to do the job, oops. This year'll be my third year as pit SL. --- Chances are, they like you more than they let on, especially if the section is mostly guys like mine is. Talk to your director and get advice from him/her, watch how other section leaders deal with their sections, and DO NOT try to be mean about being in charge. That'll only make them dislike you, and disrespect you more. It helps if you get to know the kids in the section and treat them as people, not annoying brats who don't know what they're doing.
Start a discipline system for your section. I know for mine a punishment would be having to be late to lunch and therefore last in line. If you have a percussion instructor who comes in to help the drumline/pit, ask them for advice or have them help with the discipline problem.
If you need more advice, feel free to PM me anytime and I'll do my best to help. biggrin Good luck and congratulations on the position!
