We have about 70 people on our guard. ^^; We're a big school. But we go to the Middle schools and advertise. Posters are everywhere. Just like the above posts. Don't lose hope.

chesiregirl argella1300 Being on a small guard isn't all that bad. my guard only has 3 people in it. Unless your school district is cutting jobs. Then your director is number one on the chopping block. And the lower your numbers, the more likely he/she will get cut. For example, they wouldn't cut a band or choir director, because that would effect so many kids, because there are a lot of people in band and choir. well, actually, the director of my band is also a teacher at my school, and he's been there for a really long time so it's unlikely they would cut him. my color guard instructor is a former band member who volunteers to instruct us. but i get what you mean, that really does suck

Lori2345 argella1300 Being on a small guard isn't all that bad. my guard only has 3 people in it. do you get alot of personal one on one time with your instructor? yeah, it's nice. we all become really close, and we get to do more interesting routines since there's less people to worry about technically, but the downside is that is one person can't make it, then it's virtually impossible to pick up the slack

Erika Ravenclaw well our gaurd has 12 people for nxt year and i count as half.... That's us next year, pretty much. Since I'm graduating, I'll still be working staff, but still. We've tried advertising, but noone wants to. Eh, maybe it's just our town.

Our guard went from seven people to twenty-five last year, and the same amount this year. I joined in my sophomore year, and the majority of us were new because they finally opened up the guard to everyone. As long as you have a music or dance background, you were able to join. I suggest this to all bands. AND HAVE TRYOUTS!!! We didn't have any tryouts, and there are some girls that honestly shouldn't be in our guard. Some put their bodies into it too much, and they look all jerky when they do work. There will be others where they'll be constantly confused, but refuse to ask questions. And then there are the girls/guys that just don't want to commit. Make sure you choose the right people that will be good in practice, and look good on the field.

Quirkdorkable Our teeny Guard is down to about 7 members. Nobody really notices us, or they just plain make fun of us. sad Oy! Does anyone have any tip son getting more members for us? We've only recruited about two people. So please help! (I'm sorry for begging. But I really like doing what I do, and most of the other girls do too. We really don't want the to cancel the guard program!) Well we actually have a system at our school where our gaurd conviced out Band Teacher to convince the school board to let girls who weren't in band do color gaurd for the marching season and that would get them an arts/extracurricular credit.

When I was in school my guard was really small also, we did performances during school, posted flyers, etc. None of it helped, I was in a small town so if you were different than no one wanted a part of it back then. So if you do everything and it doesn't work, try no to worry about it too much.
