Zach finally finished it. He stretched his arms out and muttered, "Finally..." He had looked it over several times to make sure it had as few errors as possible and he felt this would be good enough for what it was. So now that he finally had something tangible he could show them, he was ready to present himself and his little program to the Rocket programming department.
He slipped the disc into his pocket, and Aisu looked up from where she was taking a nap, getting up to follow him. "Oh no you don't, I can't afford to deal with your shenanigans tonight. I swear, I turn around for one second and you have grunts slipping on an icy floor. Just past the bend in a hallway no less! You are staying here tonight."
He slipped out the door, shutting it immediately as he was past the threshold so that she wouldn't escape, and locked the door. Hopefully that would be enough to keep her from getting out. He then made his way over to the programming department. He strolled over to the front door of the place, and stood there for a second, before knocking. *Tap-taptaptaptap taptap.*

It never failed. You were deep in a six megabyte core dump and had just hit that Zen-like state where errors in code stood out in stark clarity.. and there was a knock on the door.
Hayes' concentration collapsed.
Pinching the bridge of his nose - his eyes had started to smart - the blond rolled his chair back from the terminal and stood. The other techs on duty - you worked to the job, not the clock - let him take care of it; he was closest to the door.
"Yeah?" Hayes asked as he pulled the door open, then: "Oh, hey Zach." He smiled, recognizing the grunt. "What's up?"

Zach's face lit up upon seeing Hayes. "Oh, you're a programmer too? Excellent! I came here because I was hoping to begin programming. Are you the person I'm supposed to speak to on that?" Zach shuffled in his pocket, fishing out the disc, and handed it to Hayes. "I just got out of college with a degree in computer science, and after that I started on that program, so it should pretty much sum up how well I can code at this point I believe."

For a moment Hayes looked nonplussed by the little speech, but he quickly lapsed back into his easy smile. "Well Seth's.. out," and a couple of the other techs shifted in their chairs at that, "so yeah, guess I am." The blonde grinned and shrugged at the idea, then took the disk and glanced down at it.

As Hayes accepted the disc, Zach continued talking, "Alright then, well, this is a little simulator I made for pokemon battles, I tend to be a bit partial on that subject so I figured it would be a good test since it's something that I would know what is important in that area." Something Hayes said attracted Zach's attention however, thus causing him to prattle on even further. "Interesting, if I had known Seth was the head of this department perhaps I would have brought this up with him earlier... or not... my program wasn't finished at that point. Anyway, he should be fun to work under, I bet everyone here loves working with him." From the tone in Zach's voice there was no possible way of telling whether or not he was serious, but SURELY he wasn't that oblivious... was he?

There was a pause while everyone listening waded through Zach's verbal barrage.
Then a snigger.
Then another one.
"Only if you're a masochist." "Is he serious?" "Total newb."
Hayes glanced back at the group for a second then answered, "Well great." Though not unkind, there was a note of laughter in his voice and he was grinning in disbelief despite himself; he let the comment about Seth pass. "Tell you what - I'll take a look at this, have a talk with him and get back to you. And.. hey Palmer, throw me one of the testers."
An agent with spiked up brown hair got up and fetched a CD sleeve, which he lobbed at the blond in an underhand toss when he was about five feet away. "Heads up."
"Thanks." Hayes caught it by the edge with his free hand and held it out to Zach. "Meantime, take a look at this."
