ok so, a while back dream theater coverd the metallica album masters of puppets. why did they do this, was ther a motive?

Every time DT does more than one show in one city, they cover an album during one of the shows. (At least I think that's what their motives are). They covered Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast in Tokyo, and they recorded LaB there as well. 3nodding

I think they covered pink floyds dark side of the moon the day after I went to see them in London. Even if they didn't cover the album, i know they were doing a set of pink floyd songs. I'm guessing that it's just a tribute to their influences. I'm sure i've read that somewhere xp

Yeah, as Gallows Grey said, its just a tribute to their influences. Although slightly off topic, the album Train of Thought is heavily influenced by that of Metallica and Iron Maiden.
