So there was this really douchey kid in my band. And this one time he made a complete a** of himself. He had joined band in sixth grade and I think the fact that I had joined my sophomore year and was better than him really ticked him off. He had started off on trumpet, but our junior year his embouchure went to hell. At the time I was trying to get the hell off the instrument I was started on, euphonium, and was trying to get as many people I can to switch to it so that I could switch off. Unfortunately he switched on and I never switched off. But our senior year we both auditioned for an honor band. One day in physics he exploded and went on this rant about he was a better musician than me. Our friend Eric who is undoubtedly the best musician in our school was behind him the entire time snickering. When it came to the audition he skipped all of our classes that day to practice the music while I had looked at it during first period band and then put it away. Then after the audition he had the gall to say that he did better then me. It was so fitting that when they announced the chairs I was first chair and he, sadly, was seventh and last chair. Good times.
Share your stories about people that think they're all that and then get put in their place.

Oh, I can relate. Believe me, I can relate.
I'm first chair flute/pic and I double in mallet percussion. One day that I was back in flute section, this girl Alex totally flipped that I was back. She's been taking lessons for over 5 years and she's still last chair. We played one of our songs, and I had a solo in it. Needless to say, this made her incredibly mad and she packed up quickly at the end of class and stormed off. As I was walking with one of my other friends down the hall, I heard her talking to someone else about how horrible I sound and that I don't deserve the solo, she does, etc., etc. She spent the rest of the semester trying to get me de-ranked and moved down in chair order because she thought she was better. I finally proved my seniority. Guess who made all state honor band? Guess who didn't? Guess who was voted a nominee for band queen? Guess who wasn't? (:
(I apologize if some of my sentences are run-ons. I usually mind grammar and sentence structure, but this story kinda drives me a little crazy. Hence, things aren't as perfect as they usually are.)

Getting into all state really shows them huh? x3 I showed my annoyance by getting first chair at all state while he gave up because he thought the audition music was too hard.

It was actually kinda interesting 'cause I was put on the ballet by mistake. .-. Only seniors are allowed to be voted for band queen. So I was kinda bummed but happy at the same time.
No kidding. Some people just really don't.. Think. I mean, yeah, 98% of people can't but still. How hard is it to realize that you just need to work harder?? Ugh. Some people really annoy me. She pulled another stunt one time. Everyone knew that she had braces and she got them off like two weeks before contest. She was crying one day, and I was concerned. I asked her what was wrong and she said, "Oh, my braces hurt." ....... I'm no dentist but......... Ya know?

Gosh I wish I had a story to tell. =/ There's a girl who is so spoiled. Last year she was bragging about how she was going to make Field Commander and if she didn't she was going to make her parents complain to the director or move to a different school. She didn't even try out that year, and this year she f****** gets it?! It makes me soooo mad. On the upside, even though she eztablished that she was second in command of her section she found out that no one liked her.

Well last year was my first year trying out for high school region. I (a freshman then) was up against someone in the same grade, a junior, and two seniors. Boy did the seniors like to scare everyone else. They thought that they were instantly going to be in the symphonic band and go to area so they talked constantly to me about how the audition music was harder than usual and how they've had soooooooooo many years of practice and how nervous I look. Once the results got out it showed that I got first chair on symphonic band. That was the last I saw of one of the seniors, and that senior was second chair.

There was this contra-bass clari in band...Will (graduated this year, finally!) and he was SO full of himself that pp meant FFF for him. Actually, everything was FFF to him, no matter how much the BD got on him about it.(eventually he gave up.) But the conductor at Disneyland (we sight-read music and recorded it over Disney movie clips--so fun!) didn't put up with that crap. Will kept speaking out of turn, embarrassing the entire band as usual. The conductor put him in his place. "If you keep interrupting me I will have security escort you from the premises." It was probably one of the best moments of my life. Will kept quiet and didn't try to boss the rest of the band around (as if he's some big shot -- he isn't good at all!) for the entire time. At the end while the conductor was answering questions about professional recording sessions, Will asks: how old do you have to be get work? And he says: when you're good enough, and by then you will be very, very old. We silently cheered for him right then. In fact, I could have made love with the man if it weren't so very illegal. You have no idea how much of a pain in the a** Will was. And what a creeper! And he smelled funny and never took a shower. Errgh. Anywho. He got put in his place so hard then. And the conductor was all very nice to the rest of us so really, he wasn't being a jerk. He was telling it like it is. =)

That story kicks so much brass. xD Disneyland must be ruined for him forever.
It makes me sad though. I like contra bass clarinets. ; ~;

There is this one freshman boy in my section, the clarients, who is so bossy to the entire band and thinks he is the best player in the world, when he sucks. I was sitting next to him in concert band a few times when I first had my schedule changed to have both bands and he would turn around and tell the trumpets how to play their part. He has never played trumpet. And while tuning he would last the note as loud as possible and not even fix the tuning. The entire section got yelled at by the drama teacher because we tune in the hall. Well anyway, he decided to try out for drum major(the entire band decided that if he made it, we would all switch schools) When he came out of the audition, he claimed that our bd had told him he made the drum major cut. Nobody else was told anything reguarding the cut(We had msuic auditions, then he would cut those who did not show enough skill, and then we would have conducting, cut for those without enough skill, and then an interview, which results would not be posted until later) Well, when the time came for us to know who made the cut, after a long hour or so of listening to him gloat, he didn't amke the cut.
Then I had two girls in my section who thought they were better then me adn that i was not good enough for wind ensemble. One was section leader, but I know she had at least a bit of respect for me from the previous year when it was me vs her for section leader, after I beat her by 4 chairs in regioanls(or word it however it doesn''t sound concieded). The other was a freshman, who i am still ahving issues with over my next story. Well, regioanls auditions comes along, and i cut my finger really bad. Well, I stilla udition even thoughi'min pain while i play because of the location of my cut, and I know i could have done better but anywa. So we get our results. I beat all 4 people from my band, including the section leadr, who was 6 chairs lower then me and the second highest. The freshman made last chair.
Then the freshman girl tried out for section leader. I got it. And now she treats me like crap even more so. She is mad more because i made section leader, not so much that she didn't. I have...inside nowledge from other freshman.
