Has anyone here ever been on antidepressants, and if so, which one(s)? I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow at a walk-in clinic and if they can confirm that I have depression, I'm going to ask for Celexa.
Anyways, I'm just curious if anyone in the guild would be willing to share their experiences of being on antidepressants? (Past is fine, doesn't have to be current.)
Thanks in advance! heart

Another question:
Has anyone had sleep issues with their antidepressants? I'm taking half my recommended dosage for the first week, 10mg instead of 20mg, just so my body adjusts. And the last few nights, I've been waking up at 5am almost like clockwork. I take my pill at night before bed, because it seems to be making me a little drowsy, and then I'm awake at 5am after only about 5.5 hours of sleep. It's driving me nuts and I'm wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this?

I was actually on Celexa back in the summer of '06. I was put on the highest dosage by a doctor who was (sorry, have to say it) a total b***h about the whole situation. I didn't want to be put on medication, but she did it anyway. I didn't need to be on it, I just wanted to see if I did have depression or not. I was on it for about a month and it did absolutely nothing for me. Then again, medications vary from person to person.

I have been on anti depressants for years. things given to me have been Prozac (Think that is the spelling for all of these) Sertraline and Diazipam due to an unfortunately near constant depression. The only thing I really notice different about my self is that some of them are really good at making you tired. though The last I mentioned is a pretty hardcore one so the fact I got tired is not surprised. Though sorry if this is not too informative.

The last time I was on anti-depressants, I was on Zoloft. It was the worst experience ever. After that, I refused any more anti-depressants because of how it made me feel. I was also way to young to be on Zoloft, but what doctor in my area knows half of what they're doing?
My husband also got worse while on Zoloft, too.
So..uh..don't let them put you on Zoloft. sweatdrop

Diazipam is hardcore stuff. My sister was put on that. She's also been on Abilify, which is a good mood stabilizer, usually used for bipolar disorder.
I haven't been on anti-depressants before except for migraines, so I don't have any advice for you.

Thanks so much everyone! 4laugh
@ Preston - I was talking to someone yesterday, and she was telling me about one that had super bad withdrawal effects... can't remember if it was Zoloft or not, but I think it was.

However, I found if I didn't take my anxiety medicine, I would have this weird burst of energy sometimes (when I wasn't suicidal, har har. xP ). I think its a bit normal when you're adjusting to a new medicine that effects your mind/body to have some weird side effects like that. If you're really concerned, I'd talk to the doctor. I'm fairly positive it does. While I wasn't on it for very long, getting off of it wasn't too hard for me but husband had to gently ween himself off of it after he got out of the Marines. Some anti-depressants are addictive and need to be prescribed better.

RagDoll I'm on 100mg of zoloft (an SSRI so idrk if it falls into that category...) for 4 months and have noticed no difference. I already have insomnia, so I can't help with the sleeping question...
Kisses.

Some anti-depressants are addictive and need to be prescribed better. I'm not worried yet, since I've only been taking them for a few days (Celexa - or Citalopram I think they gave me), and at a reduced dosage. In a few days when I start taking the regular dose, if it gets worse, then I might say something. And yeah, the addiction thing was one reason why I asked for Celexa, because I'd heard it was one of the more gentle antidepressants (and the doctor agreed). @ ragdoll kisses - It's ok, thank you anyways for commenting. 3nodding

Sorry to hear that you have been having sleeping woes Nikolita. Unfortunately I know how disruptive antidepressants can be to a sleep schedule. Even now, being on Diazipam for about a year, my ability to sleep at a consistant time and wake up when I am properly rested has been completely out of my control. Though from what I have seen with family, that often goes away, and I hope it doesn't effect you for too long.
