Ok... so I just started to learn how to play mellophone a few weeks ago... but my primary instrument is clarinet, which I've been playing for about almost five years now. I was wondering if there was any way to get the scratchy sounds to go away, and anything I can just do better?... =/

check your embouchure! When I started the trumpet my embouchure was always too loose. My BD told me to hold an uncooked spaghetti noodle between my lips and try to keep it there while trying to pull it away to build up my mouth muscles. Remember no teeth or this is useless.

Practice, lip slurs, and the pencil method (same thing as the spaghetti thing). But with the pencil method, no more then five minutes or you will do more harm then good!!!
After a month, your embouchere will be pretty jacked, and you will also be able to keep from air escaping out of the side of your mouth.
