I'm a little late.. ^^;;;
But, NEVER EVER PUT YOUR HORN DOWN. NEVER. That lowers your score PLUS you won't have a good hold on the music in front of you. And yeah, never stop playing. During our sight-reading, my whole section stopped and I was the only one playing! Good thing I'm pretty good at sight-reading. =]

what tips I use are 1. get the rhythm 2. pick out the notes you know first out 3. look at the key signature (I didn't do that once, I ended up playing something completely different... so yeah...) 4. look for any repeats 5. look to see if there might have been a coda, I know, kinda goes with #4 6. try your hardest mrgreen mrgreen 7. listen to the people around you, maybe just in case you loose the tempo I hope at least some of these may help you Oh yeah, 8. try playing the fingerings through the peice before you play the music
